About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- bharrin39400 contributionsDon't purchase ahead of timeThere is no need to buy this before arriving in Dublin. It is a very walkable city wotj plenty of public transportation options. I purchased a ticket for 2 people for 2 days and never got to use it. Workers were very cooperative issuing our tickets and then explaining it would be shorter to walk to our destination than taking the bus. I would have requested a refund. My fault for not doing better research.Written December 6, 2024

I love Hop On Hop Off bus tours great. A host of languages to choose from. It's a great way to see where things are and sort of get oriented when you visit a new city. And watching the sights with the map, made it so easy to come back and see more in detail. Always a great way to start a visit. LOVED IT!Written January 15, 2024

- Curious278787657850 contributionsHighly recommendedOn a whim we booked a tour with City Sightseeing. It was a great decision. From the moment we met Pat (the tour guide), we knew we were in for a great day. As a tour guide we couldn’t have hoped for anyone as enigmatic, entertaining and knowledgeable as Pat. The tour took us through the Wicklow mountains, with numerous stops where Pat would share his knowledge with us. Then on to Kilkenny, where we had several hours to ourselves. Following a delightful traditional Irish lunch (and a Guinness!), we wandered around Kilkenny, which we found enchanting. We took the opportunity to visit the Smithwick’s Experience. For a small fee we had a guided tour of the brewery and learned a great deal about its history and how it had been transformed over the years. The ‘experience’ concluded with sampling Smithwicks beers. We arrived back in Dublin about 6pm, which meant the tour had lasted 10 hours. It was well worth it though. This was great day and excellent value for money. Highly recommended.Written November 1, 2023

We added it to our day tour ticket and are glad we did. The tour took us to several excellent stops and our guide, Ross, was hilarious. We saw various parts of the city along with a few coastal stops. Enough bathroom stops and the right duration to get back at a reasonable time for dinner. You won't be sorry.Written October 12, 2022
- laraluvsU20 contributionsA different perspective to see Dublin. Well worth it.To see Dublin from a different perspective, take the Boat Cruise on the River Liffey. Our Skipper, Mark, and our guide gave us a great tour of Dublin from the water. The commentary was both informative and entertaining. The guide was very good at making connections between Dublin's history and the countries the patrons came from. This made the tour more personal. The tour is 45 minutes. It was a perfect way to see the city in the rain as the boat is enclosed. Highly recommend this tour of Dublin.Written September 12, 2022

- 3stars1wish0 contributionsGreat introductory tour of DublinWe purchased our tickets in advance. Instructions were given as to the meeting points and time for pickup. The bus drove around Dublin and surrounding area. Our guide talked about the history of Ireland, showed us the highlights of this beautiful city. Her commentary was interesting and informative! Well worth the time and money spent. If I go back, I will know which places that I would like to visit.Written April 7, 2020
- patto99410 contributionsGreat tourTook the bus tour around the sites of Dublin on a very quiet day , easy to follow map of the route to pick out the highlights of the city , 24 or 48 hour tickets with a free walking tour included, with all the fears of the conovirus there was only 2 of us on the bus ! As soon as we started the tour audio description failed 😟 Jim our driver took up the challenge and provided us with his own brilliant commentary with added bonuses all the way round, he’s only a part time driver but what a star , made our day, thanks Jim 👍Written March 13, 2020
- benfromswansea0 contributionsPrepare for Long Waits in the ColdMe and my partner have used the city sightseeing bus in several cities. Dublin's was by far the worst. Firstly in most cities we've used it there are 2 routes, this one only has one route which means it takes 1.5-2 hours depending on traffic to get around the whole route. We booked the bus for 48 hours, however on the second day the buses were not as frequent (only coming every 45 mins to an hour) - we only found this out on the day when we called the company as we'd been waiting at our stop for 40 minutes. The website didn't inform us that there would be less buses on this particular day, stating frequency of buses was 20 mins. Falsely advertised on their website! Had we known this we wouldn't have booked it for the second day. We also emailed them to ask beforehand and were not informed of this. The only positive was the bus drivers were very welcoming and helpful with our questions about the city.Written December 23, 2019

The enjoyment of this does depend on the driver of the bus. The driver of the first bus I got on was fairly miserable but other drivers interacted with passengers and lightened the tour. The tour itself is very long winded because of the level of inner city traffic but worth using.

Hi Sandra R,
Thank you for your comments, and 3* rating.
We do hope to see you again, and hope you enjoyed your tour.
Dublin City traffic can be heavy at certain times of the day - unfortunately sometimes there isn't a lot we can do about it : )

The bus ride was comfortable and the bus made stops within an acceptable time of their estimate to be at various places. The main problem is they use a recorded audio method to present their tour information, and you just couldn’t hear it very well. Lots of street noise and just the noise of the buses made it nearly impossible to hear the content. We sat on the top and the bottom and it didn’t make a difference. I recommend a different tour that has a live person announcing the content, as we heard that is a better method from others we talk to.

Better late than never as they say. About 6 years ago we missed our bus, (the last bus it turned out) to Camac Valley caravan park from where we (me, my wife & 2 young kids) were in Dublin Centre after a great day out. This guy from City Sightseeing Tours pulled up nearby in his bus, so we asked him for advice about getting back. Hop on he says, I’m headed in that general direction, I’ll take a detour and drop you off. This guy had finished his shift as well so was very kind and helpful to us when we needed assistance. I asked him for his name on a card and said I’d give him a shout out on trip advisor but mislaid the card. Well, I’ve just found it and I’d like to say a massive Thankyou to Eoin for being an absolute gentleman, hope your still with city sightseeing, hope they are treating you well and hope you see this post. It gave us another great wee memory of our holiday in Dublin:)

My wife and I booked this tour based on great trip advisor reviews but were very disappointed. We show up to redeem our ticket and find out that they were down drivers so the bus only came around every 45 minutes at each stop, and the entire loop takes 2 hours. They also had no schedule or tracking app so it’s just a guess when the bus will show up at each stop. We see the Book of Kells close by then hop on the bus to go to Guinness (6 stops away). What little audio commentary we heard was good. We get off at Guinness and ask when bus stops running and we’re told 7. It’s 4:30 when we finish Guinness and then proceed to wait 45 minutes in the cold and rain for a bus that never comes (meanwhile we see 3 green Dublin Go buses, and they say come around every 20-30 minutes and cover more stops). After checking the website, we find out this bus stopped running at 4 (although another website said 5 and the driver said 7) and proceed to walk back to our hotel. They tell you the bus ticket is good for 24 hours but don’t tell you the bus only runs 6 hours out of the day (10-4). We couldn’t come back the next day to try again because we had another tour booked (Wild Rover tour of Northern Ireland which was excellent, highly recommend). My wife and I had done other hop on hop off tours before but this was the worst. This would only be useful if you get on and spend 2 hours to do the entire loop and then get off. It is not practical to take it to multiple sights like we tried to do. I recommend the Dublin Go green buses instead which were approximately the same price but much more frequent and reliable.

Used this company over the Easter bank holiday weekend while visiting Dublin for 3 days with my partner. We booking this for the second day of our trip which was the only full day we had so thought that would be the best day to make full use of it. I also booked as it stopped at the store house and we had a tour booked for that day and thought it would be very handy for getting there. The closest bus stop to our hotel was STOP 17 so we were up bright and early to be at the bus stop and make full use of the experience. We waited about half a hour with no sign of a bus but thought possibly it was running late and also giving it was a bank holiday we decided to continue waiting for another half a hour. still no bus arrived. The phone number on the stop sign and website both do not work as I tried numerous of times to contact someone to find out where the bus was. At this point we had been standing for over a hour so decided to walk to the tourist office which was printed on our ticket. As we were walking towards the city centre it had become apparent there was a ceremony parade on and the road that the bus would have took was closed. Nowhere was this mentioned on our email confirmation. Company website or online map. As a tourist how are you supposed to know this. What a waste of our holiday standing about for a bus that was never coming. I have wrote to the company for a refund as we definitely never got full use of this experience and was a total waste of our time. Definitely think twice about booking wish we had booked with DoDublin or one of the other sightseeing companies there busses were passing all the time. Sightseeing Dublin busses are not regular and you don’t wanna get off as you’ll be waiting for ages for another one to come along.

Used this service (Red Bus) by chance as it was the first bus to show up. It was expensive to buy on the bus at 28 euro per person for one day till 4pm. We only managed ONE hop off and on as the waiting for the bus at the stop was well over an hour and there were too many things to see. We did stay on and complete the circuit to look from the bus which was nice but not worth the money. The commentary on the tour was informative but often out of sync with where you were at and you had often passed the site it was asking you to look at. Definitely pick up a map as you get on the bus to keep track of what you are looking out for because of this. While waiting at stops for our bus to turn up we saw the The Big Bus company (Burgendy Bus) turn up the most multiple times in our waiting time. It stopped at least 3 times while we were waiting and then the Green Bus turned up at least 2 times.

There are at least three hop on-hop off bus tour options in Dublin. We went with this one based on the recommendation of a local and because it was slightly less expensive than another option. In retrospect, that wasn’t the best decision.
Among the negatives:
1. We had to print “tickets” to be scanned and exchanged for receipt “passes” on a bus or at the main office. We were able to have our hotel print the ticket, but this shouldn’t be a thing in the day of mobile e-everything.
2. The bus driver couldn’t get his scanner to work to issue our passes. We had to visit the main office with our printed proof of purchase to get our passes. On the bright side, the driver let us ride the bus to the main office, and the main office was helpful.
3. On some of the buses, it was impossible to hear the tour audio and many of the headphone jacks for other languages were not functional. On other buses, the audio and headphone jacks were fine.
4. The buses only came around (maybe) every 30 minutes. At one stop, we saw three buses from a competitor (Big Bus) come and go before our bus arrived. It was difficult to make quick progress from one part of the city to another.
5. The prominently placed brochures advertised times and starting location for a free 90-minute city walking tour. When we arranged our day to participate in this walking tour and arrived at the starting point well ahead of time, we were informed that the times and starting location had changed, and the brochure had not been updated. This was disappointing.
On the positive side, all of the employees we encountered were friendly and helpful, the stops were conveniently located, and the tour audio was interesting when we could hear it.
One of the competitors (Big Bus) offered an app that claims to allow tracking bus locations, and we saw them far more often. If we had it to do over, we would have used Big Bus even though it was a little more expensive. City Sightseeing has some potential, but they need to update their business model a bit to offer a high quality service.

Family of 6 adults and 3 children stood in the wind and rain for over 50mins on O’Connell Street this Saturday after purchasing tickets in the tourist office. Buses are advertised as every 20mins. 2 buses each from other bus companies stopped in the time it took our bus to arrive! The staff member who showed us to the stop had no idea how long the bus would be. When on the bus, the only available seats were at the back. Only 2 of the earphone sockets were working. None along the back window worked!
We tried again on the Sunday with our 24hr tickets. Waited outside the Epic centre for 45 mins again and no bus. Again 2 buses from 2 other companies stopped. Still no bus from our company so we gave up. Not acceptable, especially when you have young children. Total waste of over €100

Hi G76NI,
Thank you for your message, and we're sorry to see that you feel this hop on-hop off experience wasn't good for you.
Having looked over some information, our buses were certainly running - but there may have been some knock-on delays throughout Dublin City due to Storm Dennis.
The earphones sockets should all be working on board, so we do apologise if this was not the case at the back of the bus. I will report this to the Transport Manager, along with the service level for Sunday.
Kind regards,

This is a rip off. The site says that they run every 45-60 minutes but we waited for more than an hour and ended up taking "bigbus tours" (slightly more expensive) but they run every 20 minutes.
Although we didn't use the tickets, "City Sightseeing" did not provide any refund on the tickets.
DON'T USE THEM, spend 10 euros extra with one of the other 2 companies instead!

Ultimately the tour itself was good. But after waiting 50 minutes for the bus beside the Liffey near the Arlington Hotel, the bus driver failed to stop. We walked to the tour operators office where a lady called Deirdre was extremely understanding and helpful. A QR scanner failure meant we had to go the College Green office where we were issued tickets and then had to wait a further 20 minutes for the bus. 2 hours of our sole day in Dublin wasted.

They provide you maps when you get there. They have maps online however they were a little confusing to me but the ones they give you at your first stop are better. The ones online at least give you a good idea of the stops along the route.

We purchased our tickets for one day on the same day we used them, so I suggest you wait until you get to Dublin, go to the ticket booth on O’Connell Street and inquire about the days of operation...although I believe it’s Monday through Sunday. We had no problems getting our tickets on the spot.
