We wanted to do a more challenging route up Ben Nevis but thought it wise to seek a professional for the scrambling and navigation. Scott took us up Ledge Route away from the crowds and walked us through each section-- pointing out tricky areas and giving us an idea of what to expect. Communication from Scott was excellent, we started our hike on time, and he was patient as we began to tire and need breaks. We felt like we were in good hands from start to finish and I'd highly recommend Scott to anyone wanting to enjoy a hike with the added safety of his advice and experience.

After an excellent day out last year with Kirkhope Mountaineering on Tower Ridge we booked again for a traverse of Cuillin Ridge. Scott was great in keeping in touch with us regarding questionable weather forecast up until the day we left for Skye. In amazing weather we did day 1 of the traverse. Scott took time to explain about rope techniques, geographical and geological features. We went at a pace that was good for me (the slowest and most inexperienced team member). Scott clearly assessed my ability and when necessary we roped up, enabling us to walk freely on parts of the ridge it was safe to do so. After a cold night up there we completed the ridge on the second day. Weather deteriorated but Scott made decisions about going around some more difficult bits due to slippy rock (and my gradually reducing pace), which still enabled us to complete the whole ridge plus all 11 Munros. I would recommend anyone wanting to complete the traverse to book Kirkhope Mountain Guides for a safe and fun two day expedition and not to waste time shopping around. I can’t imagine any guiding company would provide a better service.

As a group of 4 females we wanted to enjoy walking Ben Nevis without the stress if the weather turned bad! The weather turned out to be perfect but we don’t regret for one minute having booked a guide as Hannah was brilliant and made the experience for us. When we met up she talked us through the route and what to expect. She advised us on when to stop for breaks and just knowing our progress points really helped. It would have been easy to spend quite a bit of time at the summit but she reminded us we were only half way through our day and also gave us helpful advice about when to add and remove layers of clothing etc. She was easy to talk to and we really enjoyed her company. The booking process was very efficient with Scott- from initial enquiry right through to making our final arrangements for the day, he always responded really quickly. I would highly recommend booking with him.

After booking a guide to climb Ben Nevis in March of 2020 just as covid hit, we finally got to meet our guide in June of this year. Two+ years later we decided it was best to moderate our goals. We chose to hike to the Red Burn and to enjoy the experience and the fabulous scenery. Our guide, John, was very well informed about the flora, fauna and history of the area, and he did a fantastic job of helping two older adults navigate a few of the trickier turns on the way up and down that were slick due to the rain. Scott Kirkhope was also helpful in our many email communications between 2020 and 2022. We are in our 70s/80s; I would encourage anyone to not let age or disability stop you from having this wonderful experience. Do as much as you feel comfortable with and don't believe that the only objective is to reach the top. (But do bring trekking poles!)

Hi Elaine, Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. You are right, the top isn't always the goal. Some days just being in the mountains can be an amazing experience on its own. We are glad we could be a part of your experience.

Our group of five booked a guide to climb Ben Nevis as none of us had confidence navigating in bad weather. Our guide was an absolute pleasure to spend the day with. We were particularly glad of her navigational skills on the top as conditions were pretty poor. Her knowledge of the mountain and surrounding area was of continual interest to us – it was also a distinct advantage to know all the pee stops!!

Climbing Ben Nevis was a great achievement for us, and our guide enabled us to accomplish it with absolute confidence.

Scott guided us expertly across the Aonach Eagach ridge with its phenomenal views and knee- trembling drops. We’re all in our early 60s with no significant mountaineering/climbing experience but felt completely safe. Scott was friendly and accommodating to our needs throughout the process from booking to completion. He supplied helmets, ropes and harnesses which all looked very new! From explaining that there wasn’t a large grassy picnic site on the ridge, to information on geology and the local fauna, Scott was very knowledgeable. He also spotted the Brocken spectre (rainbow shadow) seen in the photo. This company & the trip come highly recommended by us all. Don’t expect a picnic & you need a head for heights!

My fiancé & I climbed Ben Nevis yesterday with the guide called Levi. Levi was absolutely incredible & with his skills & knowledge of the mountains, we managed to reach the summit in windy, tricky conditions . Levi was very helpful & explained at each part of the mountain, what to expect, what kit to use, how to use it, what the weather conditions would be like & how important it is with your layers of clothing etc. What an amazing experience to achieve & wouldnt have been able to do it in those conditions without a guide. Thank you!

The night before my Ben Nevis experience was raining heavily and I was nervous about how it would be on the day. However the day came it was dry, fairly bright and I met up with my guide Nathan. He was brilliant! From beginning to end he gave lots of encouragement, was a mine of information and kept me going with good chat and before I knew it we were at the top! He was telling me about the Brocken spectre on the way up,and while I was busy sitting eating, his eyes were peeled, saw what was about to happen, and the most amazing pictures were taken of the Brocken spectre! It was magical, so special, and I would have missed it all if it hadn’t been for a very experienced guide! Can’t rate highly enough, and as a solo traveller, felt totally comfortable and in safe hands all the way. Totally awesome day !

My guided climb to the top of Ben Nevis was an excellent experience from my initial inquiry until the climb was complete. I would absolutely recommend Kirkhope Mountaineering if you wish to climb with a guide, and I would definitely recommend a guide in winter conditions as I encountered on my climb last week. Despite what you may read climbing Ben Nevis in Winter and low visibility is dangerous and a guide is a must if you are an amateur climbing such as myself. My guide Ben was very easy to talk to for the whole climb and we had many interesting conversations and laughs. We made a fast ascent and descent and completed the climb in about 6 hours, but that was not rushed. We set a good pace and stuck with it. Due to the blizzard conditions and sub zero temperatures at the summit we didn't stick around long !

Neville was our guide and he was absolutely great. Our group of 6 - all over 50 - climbed Ben Nevis in April. There was still a lot of snow and we required crampons and sticks. Our guide was brilliant. He set the pace, kept us going, helped us with our crampons, provided lots of interesting facts about the mountain and allowed us to concentrate on the trip rather than worry about the safety.
We could probably have made the ascent ourselves, but having a guide took away all the uncertainty and anxiety. It made the trip pleasurable and memorable.
