An excellent full day trip on the Orkney Island. The trip starts at John O’Groats taking 40 minutes to reach the islands on the passenger ferry. The coaches wait for the arrival of the ferry ready to transport guests to the first stop at Kirkwell for shopping in the town and a visit to the cathedral. The journey visits most key tourist venues throughout the day. There are plenty of ‘comfort breaks’. The driver acts as tour guide on the bus with informative talks and poor jokes.

A long day but well worth it. Great boat ride to Orkney especially if the sun is shining. The tour guide was very informative and engaging. They provide your own itinerary when on the coach with is useful to plan lunch and toilet breaks in. One attraction requires a payment so bring NT, Cadw, EH cards if you have them as it is free then!

We had such a great day and I'm struggling to say anything negative about our trip.

£80 includes a ferry to the Orkney islands, which has outter and inner seating. Its around forty minutes and luckily we had lovely weather. We observed both seals and dolphins.

The bus trip was great, the driver, your guide was really informative and funny at the sametime. His name was Stuart and There's other reviews that highly rate him.

That been said, it's a great trip and highly recommend.

We happened to get free admission to Skara brae the day we went, but that's not why I wanted to book this tour. I wanted to see the stones, which we barely had time to see. The Italian chapel is absolutely no big deal and that one hour stop for lunch for horrible. There was one restaurant that couldn't serve us all in a huge bus that I thought was promised to be smaller with fewer people. The Orkneys' cannot handle this many people. Our tour guide acted like he could care less and that was noted as we all left and I didn't see him collecting many tips. He didn't deserve them. He added very little to the experience. I have to agree with the other person who disliked this tour. When I signed up, I thought we were in a small group. I was dismayed at the number of people and I did not enjoy it. We should have taken our car and used the other ferry and driven around ourselves using our time as we wished.

May I say how very disappointed we are to hear that you didn't enjoy your day with us. If our driver guide acted in the way you describe then of course that is not acceptable and we shall take this further. In our defence I can say the following :- Skara Brae is included free in every Maxi Day Tour - The Italian Chapel is a highlight of the tour for many - the story is very moving for most of our passengers. We carry our passengers in luxury coaches and each and every one of our passengers are special to us. Stromness has a range of places to dine from delis to restaurants - I'm surprised to hear of your experiences in this respect. Again please accept our heartfelt regrets over your experiences.

Absolutely fantastic day spent on Orkney. Our tour guide Stuart was fantastic, he was so knowledgable and kept us all entertained with his stories and his jokes. It was a day well spent and so enjoyable - we throughly enjoyed every aspect of it. I would definitely recommend this tour.

Comfortable coach.
Knowledgeable and interesting talk by driver, interspersed with terrible jokes!
Driver also spoke to all passengers as they entered and exited the coach, including their comments and questions into his spiel.
Orkney didn’t disappoint either.
Very enjoyable day trip!

Really enjoyable day trip, generous time allowed in each location. Our driver Darren was fantastic and very knowledgeable about Orkney and had some good jokes too. Would really recommend this if it's your first time to Orkney as you get to hit the main locations. Skara Brae was incredible and the tickets being included in the price is really good value. The beach next to it was just beautiful.
I would recommend paying the additional £3.50 to see inside the Italian Chapel, it's incredible. Also definitely get some Orkney ice cream, it's soooo good!

Went on the tour on the last day of our wee holiday and it was a great way to end the break, the guide/driver Stuart kept everyone amused with his humour, his knowledge was also fantastic, I've been on tours in other areas before but this day trip was head and shoulders above anything else i've done. Skara Brae was a highlight of the tour for me, also the Italian chapel is phenomenal. anyway, if you want a good day out in Orkney I'd definitely recommend John o Groats ferries.

We booked this trip as part of our road trip around Scotland and we weren’t disappointed. Over the course of one day you definitely get to see the highlights of Orkney as well as getting an informative and occasionally humorous commentary from the coach driver. Only downside was the stopover at Stromness which we could have easily done without (or perhaps we just missed the good stuff that was there)???

Went on the day four in August. Stuart, the bus driver, made the tour particularly enjoyable. He has a lot of local knowledge and made the journeys between stops very interesting. The stop offs are really well timed so you get time to see everything. We even had a bit of excitement as two passengers on the ferry who weren't on the tour, missed the return ferry so the ferry turned back for them. That's what I call service.

Great Ride
For £20 you get a ferry ride and transport into Kirkwall. It’s the same ferry and bus they use for the day tour.
