About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Lynn982920 contributionsGREAT TOUR!Stewart provided a wonderful day. He picked us up at our hotel and took us to the Kelpies and the Falkirk Wheel. Stewart was very knowledgeable and entertaining. We were not rushed through either site. He has a great sense of humor and was very engaging. I'd book another with Stewart!Written October 7, 2024
- DayTrip084930002180 contributionsThis is a must for anyone visiting ScotlandStewart was amazing. He was knowledgeable, friendly and very helpful. He personalized my 4 days of touring to maximize my time and experience. He showed me Scotland's history and beauty. This was far better than any of those large group tours out there. Through conversation he learned what I liked and made sure to incorporate it into the day. His recommendation of the Spinnaker Hotel was spot on. Clean comfortable and with amazing food. I recommend Tartan Tours to anyone looking to explore Scotland. Stewart will make you feel right at home!Written September 30, 2024
- 4Travellers10 contributionsWhisky tourFour golfers from Vancouver arranged a golf trip to some of the great courses like Carnoustie, Royal Dornoch, Royal Troon and others. We didn’t want to leave without a taste of Scotland, so we called a friend/guide who had taken us on a 10 day historic tour of Scotland five years earlier. He organized a three day whisky tasting including our hotels, our meals and our itinerary. This was a much shorter trip but he packed in a lot. He picked us up in Prestwick and we used a home base of the Spinnaker in Gourock, with one night at the Tontine in Greenock. He arranged fantastic scotch tasting events at Glengoyne, Clydeside and Rosebank. Each one was amazing, in one case we got to blend our own custom blend, in another we did a fantastic chocolate pairing, and one had just reopened that week after being closed for 20 years! Separate reviews coming on each of those hotels and distilleries. Since each didn’t take all day, Stewart filled the day with visits to several local and historic sites along the way, including the Maritime museum, the transportation museum and others. Stewart had no trouble storing and transporting the golf travel bags containing clubs we never broke or threw in the loch! Steven is a great host. Don’t go to Scotland without arranging something with Tartantoursscotland.com, anywhere from a day to a week, for one to six people. Thanks again Stuart, hope to see you again soon.Written September 23, 2024
- Freedom354334838320 contributionsGreat day!We really enjoyed our day with Stewart. The original tour was the kelpies and Falkirk wheel but asked about adding Sterling castle, and Stewart made it happen! I also want to add that we had planned this tour with Stewart in Oct of 2023 but had to cancel at the last minute, so am very happy we were able to finally make it. We would definitely recommend tartan tours! Barb and KellyWritten September 14, 2024
- R9674KAmargaretr0 contributionsInveraray and Loch LomondStewart Gunn was very knowledgeable and had put a lot of effort into locating two cottages that my ancestors had lived in in the early nineteenth century. He even knocked on doors and I met the occupant of one of the cottages. And when it came to finding family graves in the cemetery he was incredible bashing down the bracken surrounding one of the graves so I could read and photograph the gravestone. Stewart took me, a first time visitor to Scotland, to his favourite places in the Inveraray - Loch Lomond area and was very knowledgeable about the history of the area. I am very happy to recommend Stewart and Tartan Tours - it has been one of the highlights of my holiday.Written July 13, 2024
- ClarkJ550 contributionsGreat Tour GuideStewart was a fantastic guide who knows the area well. He picked us up right at the cruise terminal door in Greenock and toured the Kelpies and then the boat tour at Falkirk Wheel. It was a great six hours of touring and one of the best excursions during our Scotland cruise. Very comfortable van for the four in our group.Written June 30, 2024
- 464claudettej0 contributionsFantastic Day at Kelpies & Falkirk Wheel with Stewart of Tartan Tours ScotlandMy husband & I took the Kelpies & Falkirk Wheel tour with Stewart of Tartan Tours of Scotland & we very highly recommend it! Stewart is a fantastic, knowledgeable & professional guide who made our visit much more than just sightseeing. He provided background information about the Kelpies & the Falkirk Wheel & also showed & explained other interesting sights in the area in a most enjoyable manner. Stewart answered any questions we might have, allowing time to take photos & taking photos of us. Stewart was so thoughtful & offered to hold our place in line for the Falkirk Wheel so we could get a quick bite before we went on it. We highly recommend this or any tour with Stewart! Thank you, Stewart for the great memories!!Written June 11, 2024
- nextwhiskeybar0 contributionsWilliam Wallace historical tourStewart Gunn is an excellent tour guide, very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. We could only do a one-day tour, would have been nice to expand that to 2 or 3 days. Stewart took us to about five sites that were key in the history of William Wallace from 1290 to 1305. Really can't say enough about this tour, it was just what we wanted. Stewart picked us (2 people) from our hotel in Glasgow and off we went. He also suggested dropping us at Stirling Station, since our next night would be in Edinburgh. That worked out great.Written May 18, 2024
- A244PLevap0 contributionsA great day !!Our private guide Stewart Gunn landed us in the in 16th century, on our request. We wanted to get a little closer to the time of Mary Queen of Scots. So we visited two great castles: Linlithgow Palace and Falkland Palace. Wonderful choices and excellent guiding. We learnt much and also about Scotland since our guide knew so much about his country. He was a good driver as well! Thanks for the day!!!Written May 14, 2024
- marnelson220 contributionsMorning with Stewart and the Kelpies! What a wonderful, informative and fun day we spent with Stewart at the Kelpies and the Falkirk Wheel. What a treat to have a taste of Irn bru as we traveled over the Scottish roadways! We never felt rushed and the photo ops provided great memories of this experience. I brought a Sunday Today Show mug with me to take pictures... Stewart was excited to get in the act!Written October 1, 2023
- bcjo0 contributionsExcellent Scenic Tour to Loch Lomond & InveraryOur group of 4 thoroughly enjoyed this tour with Stewart. He is personable & truly loves Scotland and all the sites we visited, which made it more enjoyable. We visited the picturesque village of Luss, Parish church & old graveyard on Loch Lomond, including a Viking grave. Very scenic drive through Argyll Forest, Trossachs National Park, Rest & be Thankful viewpoint, and on to the town of Inverary on Loch Fyne, and Inverary Castle. Beautiful castle & gardens and great place for a drink and lunch. We enjoyed more beautiful Scottish scenery on the drive to Dunoon where we took a ferry to Greenock, to meet our cruise ship. An awesome day and we highly recommend Stewart as a tour guide and to share his love for Scotland.Written September 18, 2023
- N9421TEannew0 contributionsA Visit to the Kelpies and Falkirk WheelWe had time before the start of our Scotland tour, so we researched options and saw the great reviews for Tartan Tours. We were not disappointed. Stewart was the best introduction we could have asked for to the lovely people and interesting sites near Glasgow. I would highly recommend him as a guide for your touring needs. He told us about many set tours and let us know he can also cater to your needs. Thanks Stewart for an lovely start to our trip.Written September 17, 2023

- karynw3630 contributionsFantastic tour! Highly recommend!Stewart did an amazing job! He took us an exploration of Robert the Bruce and was a fountain of knowledge. He is also very personable and was caring toward each member of the family (ages 12-73!). He made sure everyone was having a good time, understood what we were seeing and comfortable. I highly recommend this tour and plan to book another one when we return to Scotland!Written August 4, 2023
- SharonN7000 contributionsAmazing custom tour!Stuart was amazing from first contact online thru our tour! I arranged a private tour with him to 3 castles in Outlander for my husband and I when our cruise ship stopped in Scotland 1 day. He created a timeline and itinerary specific for our ships times. My husband had no knowledge of Outlander before this and loved Stuart and truly enjoyed the whole day! Stuart even introduced us to a local Scottish beverage and had snacks for us for the day. He was a true pleasure and made our day in Scotland remarkable. I would highly recommend him- you will not be disappointed!Written July 21, 2023

We started our 5 days of tours with Tartan Tours Scotland with a full Robert Burns day. My husband was thrilled with all Stewart showed us. Getting picked up in Glasgow was easy and perfectly timed - no waiting for either of us. We spent the entire day viewing all that Alloway offered on Robert Burns. Stewart Gunn took us to the Spinnaker Hotel in Gourock to stay for four nights. We had the BEST room with beautiful sunset views over the River Clyde. Our second tour day was Loch Lomond and Inverary with stunning views from Rest & Be Thankful. Stewart showed us the "Real Scotland". Since Stewart knew how important Robert Burns was to my husband, he threw in a little of Burns every day! Getting to see Highland Mary statue in Dunoon was a fantastic surprise - thanks Stewart. I was thrilled to see Dolphins as we took the ferry across the Clyde to Gourock! Day Three was Robert the Bruce with tour of Stirling Castle and Bannockburn. We had additional evening tours both on our second and third nights. Stewart made dinner reservations at some of his favourite restaurants for us, so we were never left trying to figure that out on our own. MUCH APPRECIATED! Day Four was St. Andrews. I was thrilled that there was so much more to see than just the Old Course and its bridge. Stewart walked with us to the University, St. Andrews Cathedral (a must see!) and St. Andrews castle ruins. Day Five was William Wallace Tour with many sights to see. As Stewart is a member of the William Wallace Society, he offered much insight and history regarding Wallace. We were given information on the areas that we drove through and some of the history of the places. It was truly an experience worth every penny or should I say pence! Thank you Stewart and I hope I can get my husband on a plane again to come to Scotland so that you can show us more - we barely touched the surface of all Scotland has to offer.

May 2024 • Couples
We took two trips with Tartan Tours. The first was on Tuesday, May 21, around Loch Lomond (and including Luss and Inverary) and the second was on Wednesday, May 22, to Ayrshire and Burns Country. Both tours lasted the entire day, with Stewart Gunn providing lively commentary about what we were seeing. On Thursday, May 23, Stewart met us again in the early evening for a complementary tour of the Greenock and Gourock area where we were staying.
We were staying in Gourock because Tartan Tours recommended the Spinnaker Hotel, where we had a sea view room. We will be forever grateful for this recommendation because it located us in the real Scotland and not in a central Glasgow hotel catering to large groups of tourists (although central Glasgow was easily accessible through the nearby ScotRail station). The staff at the Spinnaker were, very much like Stewart Gunn himself, attentive to our needs and models of Scottish hospitality.
We were fortunate to have beautiful weather for our ramble through Loch Lomond country – bright blue skies through the late afternoon. We also enjoyed the ferry ride back from Kilcreggan to Gourock. The next day we were again fortunate with the weather. The rain held off until the early afternoon. We were able to do the outside parts of our tour first in comparative comfort and then stay inside as the rain began.
Stewart Gunn was an utterly charming host. We had an immediate connection with his love of all things Scottish. The conversation never flagged. In getting to know him we felt we were getting to know – in a truly unique and compelling way – the real Scotland. Thank you, Stewart, for a marvelous beginning to what was an unforgettable two weeks traveling around Scotland!!
