- Daydream582565572980 contributionsA fun, informative and essential guide to this wonderful city of music. This was a well researched and informative walk which covered everything from music hall to the music boom of the 1960s but also covered grass roots venues and the various music scenes that emerged from Glasgow over the years. Phil is a charming and witty guide, the 2 hours flew by.Written May 31, 2024
- 326athena0 contributionsMusos - don't miss this! What Phil doesn't know about music and culture isn't worth knowing. Linking his tales with historical context and social awareness, Phil had me hanging on every word. Just wish we'd had longer in town so we could have gone to both of them. Fab. Thanks, Phil.Written May 28, 2024
- Z2542RKjohnm0 contributionsA blast from the pastA trip down memory lane for me as I often frequented Glasgows music venues in the late 60s & 70s. Thankfully the weather was dry and sunny. Fiona the tour guide was lovely, excellent and very knowledgeable in describing past and president music venues including from my era in which I was encouraged to share recall. I celebrated my 70th birthday last year , thankful for the music tour gift voucher which I received from a friend. A great day out. Cheers. JohnWritten May 13, 2024
- JaneJennifer0 contributionsMakes you wish you were 18 again and living in 1980s Glasgow! If you are a music fan (especially of '70s/'80s/'90s New Wave and rock) you'll love this walk! Fiona, a local music critic, took us on a tour of the current and late-great music venues west of Buchanan Street. Oh, how I wish I'd grown up in Glasgow. I could have seen Depeche Mode and Ultravox and Bauhaus -- or The Killers and Blur before they were famous. There are and were so many venues. We even sat down in one of them (Sleazy's) for a beer and a chat. Fiona's stories about all of the legendary shows and misbehaving rock stars and wide-eyed unknowns-who-later-became-stars were incredible. We had a lot of Glaswegians on our tour who had been at some of those shows when they were young, so they shared their stories too. The last stop on the 2-hour tour was King Tut's. The manager let us come inside to see the venue. This was the best tour we took in Scotland. Fiona is awesome!Written April 29, 2024
- cotswoldmark0 contributionsAmazing tour, super knowledgeable guideWow! This was an amazing tour of Glasgow’s famous music landmarks from the Royal Concert Hall to Kings Tuts Wah Wah Hut. Our guide Fiona really brought every venue to life with her stories, knowledge and props (old programs, tickets and photos) I would not hesitate to recommend this tour, it was the true highlight of our trip to beautiful GlasgowWritten April 29, 2024

- Shoegirl20140 contributionsDon’t hesitate to do this tour!I am really glad we picked up this tour on our short trip to Glasgow. Super interesting and the tour guide, Fiona, was extremely enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Loved visiting King Tuts where so many of my favourite bands launched themselves. Definitely planning on the morning tour when we are next over.Written April 9, 2024

This was a really fascinating and enjoyable tour. We were amazed at our tour guide's depth and breadth of knowledge. He walked us around the Merchant City area and seemingly at every corner he revealed more unexpected wonderful facts and history about links with music personalities, bands and venues. We found out about local musical connections of all types from Stan Laurel, via Woody Guthrie, Alex Harvey and Billy Connelly to The Specials, Simple Minds and Grace Jones, and many many more besides. It was quite some performance over a period of more than two hours. Top notch stuff!

My friend and I are Glasgow natives and even we learned something new. It was really great to see our city from a different perspective. We’re both big music fans so when I saw this advertised showcasing the best of our cities musical history, it was a must do.
The tour takes in some of the brightest and best locations Glasgow has to offer. From the beautiful Georgian buildings to the urban street art there’s plenty on offer for anyone wanting to see the city.
Phil our tour guide was an absolute gem. He was so welcoming and so enthusiastic. You could tell he really loves his city and really knows his stuff in regards to music. As if the tour itself wasn’t good enough he really made it all the more special. A real asset to your team. We spent a wonderful morning exploring our city and being tourists for the day. Whether you’re from Glasgow or further afield there’s still plenty to learn.
If you’re looking for something interesting and fun to do on your trio to Glasgow, this is it. You’d be silly to miss it. It’s a must do for any music fan.

Fiona, our guide was excellent and her knowledge and anecdotes made the experience so interesting and memorable. Arrived a few minutes late due to train running late and world cycling event taking place in city centre.
Thankfully Phil the guide was still at the meeting point talking about the Clutha Bar etc.
Phil the guide really knows his music and this is evident in this informative tour about Glasgow, the groups and the venues.
The tour is at an easy pace and also stops at street art etc for photo opportunities.
Next time we will do the afternoon tour but would happily do the morning tour again

Glasgow Music City Tours were able to arrange a private tour for us as visiting family where unable to attend at the weekend. Even before the tour had taken place I was over the moon with how accommodating the company was.
The tour itself was amazing. We’ve all learned so much about Glasgow and the city’s soundtrack. Fiona was brilliant and the stories added even more to our tour. We absolutely loved it and will be recommending the tour to everyone we know.
Thank you for day, an experience we’ll talk about for years to come.

The tour guide (Phil, aka P9) is extremely knowledgeable about the Scottish music scene and Glasgow venues. This is a very entertaining tour. It “only” lasted two hours. It’s well worth the money. Phil kept us all entertained with his stories about Glasgow and the Paisley punk scene. There is something for everyone, including punk, vaudeville, folk and even social history.

This was a great way to spend 2 hours. Phil's knowledge of the music legends who made it big or first performed in Glasgow venues is second to none. The Panoptican Music Hall was a complete surprise.....a little gem hidden away right in the centre of our city.

I got this for part of my wife’s Christmas and due to Covid we kept putting off booking and finally got in before the season ended. Fiona was really brilliant, so knowledgeable and entertained us with great music stories. We laughed a lot and interacting with the others in our group was so much fun after all the isolation of Covid it really cheered us up! Made us so proud of Glasgow which we love. Fantastic architecture and interesting locals to see. Learned so much and keen to do the other tour on Sauchiehall Street. Can’t recommend it highly enough 👍😁🏴

Great couple of hours spent on a Saturday morning, on the walking tour, probably made better with a sunny day. Very good and informative tour guide, really enjoyed actually taking time to notice the venues, as we have passed them hundreds of times and never took the time to take in what Glasgow has. Would definitely recommend this tour, for anyone with an interest in Glasgow’s history, the music interest is a plus.

Will be visiting Glasgow Sept. 2019 and the tour is very appealing. I can see the times spent at each venue but how long is the tour time wise and distance (miles/km) covered walking. Thank you
Written July 12, 2019
There are two tours. Both are excellent! Take around 2 hours each. The walking is not too far for either. I did both tours in one day. Well worth doing: great!
