Edinburgh Ghost Tour: Mysteries, Legends and Murders
By Scotland City Tours - Somos Escocia
About
Learn about the alleys where the 17th century people lived in the city of Edinburgh, but especially how they died during the Black Death, and the doctors who tried to cure them with bird masks.
Dicover about corpses, but about the black market of corpses from the 19th century and serial killers, William Burke and William Hare. We will visit Old Calton Cemetery and Canongate Kirkyard.
We will also show you some nice views across Edinburgh whilst talking about a particularly dark chapter in the city’s history, the burning of witches and warlocks , and we will see if any of those who do this tour would have ended up on those bonfires.
Learn more about Scotland’s mythical site and the Scottish faeries.
All this mystery and mysticism that surrounds Edinburgh for decades attracts hundreds of tourists to the city wanting to know what happened in these centuries, are you going to miss it?

Melanie was my tour guide. Had an awesome time! It’s a big walk around with a few stops for story telling so be prepared for that! The stories were pretty cool, not as spooky as I thought but I also guess I’m not really sure what I expected. Def a great tour to be apart of. Melanie went above and beyond and was very theatrical with her story telling so you were kept engaged. The stories were amazing. Bring water for the walk. Thank you so much Melanie, it was a pleasure to meet you!

Such a fun way to spend the evening. Sabela was an amazing storyteller enlightening us on the dark past of Edinburgh. The tortures, executions, plague times… along with some crazy Scottish myths. Would highly recommend!

I was expecting to go to Calton Hill and Canongate cemetery on this tour, as it details above, but I still had a fabulous time hearing different murders, witches and ghost stories from the brilliant guide Tommy. We went round the Old Town, Grassmarket and Greyfriars and when Tommy was telling us about a woman who had her throat slit by a man she rejected, my throat started really throbbing and I don’t know if it was in sympathy or paranormal but when we moved away from that area my throat stopped hurting. In Greyfriars, I was sure I saw something moving behind me and took a picture and there’s a creepy side profile of a man in my photo!! Tommy was a great tour guide, very friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable.

Great tour starting at the Royal Mile. Our guide, Melanie, was Canadian but as passionate and knowledgeable about her adopted home as you could be. She took us through some of the shady history of the town with humour and knowledge, along with some quality acting!
The stats on the number of people buried whose coffins showed signs of attempted escape, ie they were buried alive, was disturbing!
Walk was not hard and went for around an hour and 45.
Well worth doing I reckon!

It was the best tour I have done in many years. I went with my family, and Sonia the guide was the best. She explained the darkest history of Edinburgh in a way that I will never forget. It is honestly the best tour I have ever been on, I highly recommend it. I will definitely book with the same company again if I come back to Edinburgh.

Absolutely amazing tour. We spend two wonderful hours with Nick and he was a delight. The stories were insane. A mix of scary, creepy and fun. Loved it. He also recommended some amazing pubs to grab a whisky at the end. Would highly recommend a tour with Nick!

Learned quite a lot of interesting Edinburgh history and really enjoyed all the stories. We even learned of some other things we’d like to do while we’re here that we hadn’t thought of before. Tommy was a great tour guide!
