- OnAir172871068080 contributionsGreat Guide and TourI have taken Secret Food tours all over the world, and love them for their high quality and cultural focus. The Edinburgh tour was no exception. From the very start, Nichola made us feel welcome, providing us with historical and cultural context before we moved into the tasting portion of the tour. With each dish, Nichola explained the significance and even told us stories about her grandmother making some of the recipes. This was a fantastic tour all around, and Nichola was a great guide. Thank you, Nichola!Written January 16, 2025

I've probably done at least a dozen food tours between the US and Europe, and her tour is hitting my top experiences. Her true Scot background, knowledge and enthusiasm for both local food and culture made the tour exceptional! I also loved hearing her personal stories of growing up in Scotland, as well as her recommendations of things to see and do. I'd highly recommend Secret Food Tours with Nichola as your guide to anyone visiting Edinburgh!Written January 7, 2025
- Dijah_140 contributionsGreat Food Tour worth every pennyHighly Recommend! Good Food and a great way to get to walk around the city. This was probably one of my favorite experiences while in Scotland. We were with Carlos and we were never rushed and he was nice enough to ask if we had plans afterwards so he could keep the time. There is something for everyone my favorites were the soup and the tea.Written January 6, 2025

- SLAMtravels0 contributionsDelicious Adventure with Berlyn! Our Secret Food Tour in Edinburgh was an absolute highlight of our trip, and Berlyn made it truly unforgettable! The standout moment for us was the whisky sauce haggis with neeps and tatties—it was absolutely divine and a perfect taste of Scottish tradition (you must try even if haggis isn’t normally your thing, since the sauce really pulls the dish together). Berlyn’s storytelling and vibrant personality brought the city to life as we explored its hidden culinary gems. Her recommendations, from local pubs with live music to secret shopping spots, were spot on and gave us so much to explore after the tour. What really set this tour apart was Berlyn’s attention to detail and genuine passion for Edinburgh’s culture and cuisine. She made everyone feel welcome and ensured we had an incredible time. If you’re in Edinburgh, the secret food tour is a must-do—and Berlyn is the guide you want to have! #SecretFoodTours @SecretFoodToursWritten December 27, 2024
- queenbee4680 contributionsLearn & EatIf you want to learn the history of a city, the food tours the way to go. We walked and ate through Edinburgh and had an amazing time! Nyssa, our guide, was informative and funny. This experience was so amazing. I plan to take my daughter on a food tour for a Christmas gift. Learned some history and are great foodWritten December 24, 2024
- audreys1010 contributionsNot a good food tour!I have been doing food tours during my international travels this year, and this was not on par with my tours in other countries. It was more of a history than a food & beverage tour, and it was not worth the price tag. We left hungry because there were very few food samplings offered!!That’s never happened on my previous ones. And one was a tiny bite of fudge that anyone could have walked in & procured themselves. I don’t recommend this tour.Written December 5, 2024

This virtual tour included stories of the history, architecture, food and drinks of Edinburgh. It was very interesting and the guide, Kimi, was knowledgeable, personable and funny. I enjoyed it and recommend it to anyone who wants to “travel” and be entertained during this time.

Our guide Skye was fun and knowledgeable. He provided great historical information about the city and he was very passionate about classic Scottish foods and drinks as well as other popular foods of the world. The tour started in the Old Town and ended in the New Town, lasting about 4 hours. The itinerary varies but we enjoyed a local pub for Cullen and skink(soup), hagas, neeps and tatties plus beer (small upcharge for alcohol drinks or go to the bar). We then walked to a very good coffee shoppe, then watched fudge being made with of course some tasty samples. We then had a scotch and gin tasting with instruction from Skye on how best to enjoy the drinks. We then found a very good bakery for scones, clotted cream and jam. We finally crossed over to the New Town to a gourmet food court for excellent pizza and gelato. This was time well spent and I suggest it be done at the beginning of your visit.

From the minute we met our guide Daniel we had the most exceptional foodies tour of Edinburgh! The quality of the dishes from the exceptional Oysters and Cullen Skink to the outstanding Cranachan we to die for! But the “Crème de la Crème” for me was the Haggis Nero’s and Tatties! This was made even more special by Daniel’s rendition of Robert Burns poem:” Address to a Haggis”! He has a special talent as his folklore stories of “Half Hangit Maggie”, Deacon Brodie and Burke & Hare were interesting and humorous! What a great way to bid farewell to Edinburgh!

Nichola was an excellent tour guide. We went on this tour our second day & it was a great idea to go so early. Nichola showed us the sites, made recommendations, and taught us a little bit about the food. Going early in the week allowed us to go back to many of the places she recommended and try more things we liked. Also, I like that she shared information about Scotland in general and her own life.

Carlos was the most gifted historian and engaging guide! The food stops were well selected to give an amazing culinary experience that was all Scottish!! Carlos was so encouraging that even a naysayer regarding haggis gave it a “thumbs up” review and I personally thought the haggis with neeps and tatties was absolutely delicious! Carlos never failed to provide us with explanations of every stop and its historical significance along with recommendations of other stops we might consider on our own explorations. Thank you Carlos! Scotland is fortunate to have you as their countryman
