Before you read this review, please read the 25 other 5 Star reviews of this company and its owner/operator Niall. I will not waste time and space agreeing with all the other reviews on how amazing Niall is (because he is truly amazing). I want to present specifics of the safety, value and professionalism of this Scotland treasure that is "Scottish Guided Tours". Communication with Niall was impeccable. We emailed multiple times 8 months out all the way till the day before our arrival. I asked Niall to create an itinerary based on what he thought two 50 year olds would enjoy on their first trip to Scotland. Niall provided a detailed itinerary encompassing 4 days and 3 nights of a tour of the Highlands and Isle of Skye. Niall planned, reserved and paid for hotels for all three nights, and made dinner reservations at three amazing locations. Every one of his selections were in the price point we provided and we believe we got a tremendous value. The dinner locations were impeccable and Niall's lunch spots were spot on.
Niall is a professional in every sense of the word. His vehicle was spotless, safe and in excellent condition. It was fully stocked with everything you could want from water, to umbrellas, music to towels to dry off after a misty walk to an incredible lighthouse. Niall was an exemplary driver who was safe and courteous to all other drivers on the road. Niall drove as if he was driving his very own family. After long days of driving and seeing extraordinary sights, Niall would drop us off at our Inn and go wash and fuel the vehicle for the next day. Every morning we returned to a vehicle that was spotless.
Niall is a master storyteller and has one heck of a sense of humor. He was prepared and accommodating and is a true ambassador for his country.
Niall is now part of our family and we feel part of his. If he doesn't take you to the award winning spot at The Green Welly, did you even actually go to Scotland?

Of all the travel, countries, guides, and tours we have done – our week with Niall was the absolute best! His love of Scotland and in-depth knowledge added a rich flavor to the trip – from the fun music in the bus to the folklore attached to the sights we were seeing; it was all perfect.
Niall is extremely attentive to detail – from our video calls before our trip (to understand our wants/needs/list of “must do’s”) to our time together, there was not a detail that escaped his attention. He was able to alter the trip on the fly (as dictated by weather), add in stops (to surprise us with a stop at a shop we had discovered online) to making sure there were enough comfort & movement breaks. Early in the planning stage we emphasized to Niall that we were an active group who wanted more than just sights from the bus….and boy did he deliver! Hiking, sightseeing, folklore, touring ruins & castles – it was all amazing!
I would suggest Niall to anyone booking a trip to Scotland – it truly made the trip into a fantastic adventure that all ages enjoyed.

Niall led our group of 10 on a weeklong tour of Scotland starting in Edinburgh to isle of skye and back. From our initial contact with him months ago through the planning process and it’s final execution, Niall was exceptional! His knowledge of Scottish history is immense and his ability to deliver it in the most entertaining fashion makes him standout among all the guides we have had in our travels. He always knew the most efficient way to get us to our destination and how to best enjoy it once we were there. While en route from one location to another he would regale us with stories of Scottish history and folklore. His storytelling style is so very entertaining that it truly made the travel part of the adventure. He always seemed to have a sense of when we needed to take a quick break from riding and had brief stops planned out in his head. Having said this, he was also able to pivot as dictated by weather or interests. We had a great trip and this is largely, if not entirely, due to Niall.
If you are planning a trip to Scotland, you owe it to yourself to contact Niall. We lucked into him and are so very grateful we did.

Without a doubt, this was by far, the BEST trip EVER!! My parents and I booked a 6-day private tour with Niall McOwan and it was truly the trip of a lifetime! Niall made our trip to Scotland extremely memorable and went above and beyond to ensure that we were comfortable and checked off all the places we wanted to see and more. Niall is extremely knowledgeable about the history of Scotland and shared some amazing folklore stories too. He is very professional and excellent at communication especially helpful when I was planning this trip from California with the time zone change. Niall took care of everything from driving, lodging, and eating. He picked out the best places to eat and timed all our stops perfectly. He also knew what was required ahead of time regarding all the Covid restrictions which made traveling so much smoother than trying to do it all on our own. I am eager to plan another trip in the future and will absolutely hire Niall for another epic adventure. Definitely don’t hesitate and book your next trip with Niall!

After many months of excitement leading up to our Scottish Adventure, our 2-day Isle of Skye Tour from Inverness with Niall McOwen, was EVERYTHING we hoped for and more!!! Our adventure included Loch Ness, Eilean Donan Castle, Fairy Pools of Skye, the fishing village of Portree, Old Man of Storr, Kilt Rock, Quiraing, and Fair Glenn.
After our hike up to Old Man of Storr, we had a lovely picnic style lunch on a cozy plateau overlooking majestic cliffs with spectacular ocean views. The weather was perfect!!! April is definitely a great month to visit Scotland.
Niall is a true storyteller with a wealth of Scottish folklore and history. Niall shared the story of the Warrior Queen, Scathach! I absolutely love the legend. It turns out we had our very own warrior princess, Audrey. Fearless and determined to reach the highest peak Old Man of Storr.
We stopped at the iconic Sligachan Bridge just off the main road to Portree with spectacular views of the Cuillin Hills. Legend has it the river Sligachan has been enchanted by the fairies, and in order to be blessed by the fairies with “eternal beauty”, you must get on your hands and knees by the bridge and submerge your face completely in the water for 7 seconds. When you stand, don’t wipe any of the water off your face but leave it to dry naturally. I would encourage you to dip your face in the river, whether you believe or not. I just like traditions and think it’s important to experience everything. Plus, you never know, it might just work. Although the water is chilling; the experience is invigorating. The enchanting Isle definitely lifts not only the spirits but the soul as well.
Niall was flexible and very accommodating. He planned every hike meticulously. With our group of six adult’s ages 25-60 Niall checked everyone’s skill level. I appreciated that Niall kept checking in on each of us with each challenging hike. Safety was a priority for sure!
Niall is a gentle giant in spirit, quick on his feet hiking up the trails of Old Man of Storr. We had a smooth and epic road trip because Niall drove us around safely through the narrow and winding roads of the highlands, enriching us with the amazing stories, both real and folklore, that each location had to offer.
Along the way, his playlist of traditional Scottish music kept us fully immersed in the adventure. As Outlander fans, Audrey and I got goosebumps when we heard Outlander’s theme song “The Skye Boat Song” playing while we crossed the bridge into Isle of Skye. Also, he wasn’t afraid to change it up when he discovered that he and my husband were both big fans of Elvis Presley.
At the end of our tour, my family and I didn’t want to say good-bye to our dear friend Niall.

Niall led our group on a vegan-friendly tour of the Isle of Skye and Scottish Highlands. I can’t imagine touring Scotland without Niall as a guide. He is a wealth of knowledge about Scottish history and folklore, and he makes the stories of Scotland come alive with his Scottish wit and charm. Not only did Niall choose the best spots to visit for our whirlwind tour, but he shared the story of each place as we arrived to each destination. Niall is also a really nice guy, and it was a joy to spend several days with him. I feel that I learned more about Scotland from Niall than I’ve learned from several books I read before my trip. Don’t visit Scotland without Niall!

Our 10 day tour of Scotland with Niall was the trip of a lifetime. Niall started helping us plan our trip over a year and a half in advance. He had the best communication in planning via email and also made time to do a zoom call with us to make sure every aspect of our trip would be perfect. And boy he certainly delivered in every area. Our trip was even better than anticipated. Niall is a wealth of knowledge and taught us so much about Scotland and it’s rich history. We saw the most breathtaking sights, visited castles galore, saw Culloden and the standing stones, and got in lots of hiking and climbing about. The guys on our trip got in 4 rounds of golf while Niall made sure the ladies were entertained with the spa and some outlander sightseeing. We did a whiskey tasting, saw several coos, had a royal sighting, and laughed until our cheeks hurt. I am still smiling thinking about our adventures and memories made. Not only did Niall make sure we saw every item on our list, but he also is just so kind. He truly is a wonderful person with a great sense of humor who we are all happy to now call a friend in Scotland. We can’t recommend doing a tour with Niall and his company enough. I coordinated with Niall to plan an Outlander tour for six friends. He did a positively magnificent job. We saw all filming sites (a couple were closed due to the next season filming, and he had to juggle our tour days so we got to all the sites that were open). Once he discovered we were all needleworkers, he arranged for a special presentation on the tapestries at Stirling Castle. He proactively (and unbeknownst to me) researched a house related to an antique sampler I own so that we could go see it. Best of all, when we arrived at Craig Na Dun on World Outlander Day, he had set up for a well known bagpiper (Spud the Piper) to play for us while he had a wee dram of Sam Heughan’s Sassenach whisky that he had procured for the occasion. Niall took our group to all the series locations typically covered in Outlander tours plus more, and many historic sites as well. Niall has a great knowledge of Scottish history and a wonderful sense of humor. He booked great restaurants for our meals. He accommodated easily our special needs (suitcase needed replacing due to bad wheel, needed cold medicine). And he followed up with us daily after the tour when two of us contracted Covid and couldn’t return home. I can’t recommend Niall highly enough.

If you are considering a trip to Scotland, 2 words of advice. 1) Do It! and 2) Book a private tour with Niall McOwan (pronounced "Neal") and Scottish Guided Tours.
My husband and I enjoy traveling, and we've done our fair share of self-guided and (heaven help us) coach tours in other countries. Our 4 days in Scotland with Niall were beyond enjoyable. Niall combines a remarkable knowledge of Scottish history with a welcoming and friendly personality. We had a rough idea of where we wanted to go, but Niall helped refine an itinerary that perfectly suited our needs. He helped us book convenient lodging and answered all of our pre-trip questions.
Almost immediately after we met, traveling with Niall was like traveling with a most accommodating friend. He knows all of the wonderful restaurants and where "comfort breaks" are available in remote Highland locations. Niall was flexible in our tour stops, and after finding out I was an Outlander fan, even surprised me with a unplanned stop at Lallybroch. His insight into the real Scotland was something we could not have discovered on our own, and now that our trip is done, we are leaving a bit of our hearts and a life-long friend in this wonderful country.

Niall created the most amazing experience for my family. The Scottish highland tour was incredible. He sorted and planned out every detail from dinner reservations to clean bathroom breaks. As a bonus he is a fantastic story teller and I will never forget his telling of the legend of old man stor as we sat beneath the rock. I highly recommend Niall for your personalized, customized tour of the Scottish highlands.
