Sunshine on Leith - a lovely walk in the sun
We went on a tour around the area of our office in Leith and it was great to learn so much history that's right under our noses. Gerry was really knowledgeable and very easy to listen to, I can't wait to share all my new fun facts with everyone!

Our walking tour of the country in the city explained how Edinburgh started, grew and what it is today. Great tour.
Gerry was funny, informative and smart. You would never know or see what he showed us on the walk without him. His stories were interesting. We are very glad we went with him.

          A must-do in Edinburgh
We had a most pleasant and extremely informative private group walk with Gerry around the New Town and Old Town areas of Edinburgh. Being a born and bred local was a deciding factor for us, when choosing someone, you simply can't beat that sort of knowledge and experience. Gerry's communication from the outset, his recommendations and his desire to share the history and culture of the city were all first class.

          Edinburgh’s Country in the City
A brilliant day out guided by Gerry who was highly informative and great company. Saw an area of Edinburgh which was relatively unknown to me and it has whet my appetite for a return visit during a time when the City is fully open. Well recommended to all walkers!

          Day Trip to the Borders
Adrian took us on a guided tour of the Scottish Borders, stopping at two mills, a distillery, and Abbotsford. We enjoyed it immensely. Adrian was a kind and extremely knowledgeable tour guide who became our friend by the end of the day. He went out of his way to make sure we had a fantastic experience, and we would highly recommend Edinburgh Walks.

We enjoyed our private walk with Gerry immensely. He was so knowledgeable and we thoroughly enjoyed all the extra tidbits of information he provided. It was nice to laugh while learning a lot about this wonderful city. We would highly recommend him and his company Edinburgh Walks. Thank you Gerry! Bob, Alexa, and Tom. PS We are continuing to use the new word - Bahookie! Loved the story that went with that.

          Walk to Leith- Excellent
Our family thoroughly enjoyed our walking tour to Leith. Gerry is easy going and very knowledgeable. I would highly recommend taking one of his walking tours. I recommend booking it early in your trip to Edinburgh to receive all his recommendations and to get a background on the city.

Short trip, but felt like I saw it all!
We were only in Edinburgh for two nights and I knew there was so much to see in so little time. I know a professional guide the only way to get everything in. Gerry was fantastic and very knowledgeable! We conversed a bit beforehand and he tailored a walk that my boyfriend and I both enjoyed. He met us in the lobby of our hotel and took us all over town. I learned so much on this walk and we were blessed with great weather too! I’ll be giving him a call next time I visit! Word of advice: sunscreen (whether it’s sunny or not) and comfortable walking shoes! THANKS GERRY!

Wonderfully informative, friendly, and enjoyable tour!
Gerry did a marvelous job tailoring a tour to our particular interests, based on input from us when we exchanged emails to book the tour. He had planned possible sites to visit and done extra research to prepare for our visit. Well in advance, he sent us an excellent list of recommendations for restaurants, pubs, and other places we might want to experience in Edinburgh. He welcomed us at our hotel the morning of our tour, and led us through the historic streets, alleys, and closes of Edinburgh, as well as into special places such as the supreme court building. He was warm, friendly, knowledgeable, and considerate, asking us our preferences for pacing and options for what to spend time on during our tour. Gerry provided us a real connection with Edinburgh. We enjoyed our visit so much more because of his tour and came away with many more good memories. We highly recommend Edinburgh Walks!

          Excellent Local Knowledge
Gerry has great local knowledge accumulated from a lifetime of living in Edinburgh and walking its streets. His fascinating tour took us to some of the gems we would never have found on our own. Ask him what he knows about whiskey.

Hidden Truths on Harry Potter and other local tales
I've never done a walking tour before and I hope that any future ones are half as good as Gerry's! Gerry met us at our accommodation and took us through New Town, Dean Village and Old Town. He picked a number of spots with beautiful scenery and incredible architecture, informing us of their significant historical moments and local truths. He also kept us informed on more contemporary history with some inside knowledge on J.K Rowling's Harry Potter books, visiting some of the supposed "birthplaces" of her stories and characters. On his recommendation, we stopped at a great spot for lunch which offered fresh vegan and vegetarian cuisine which was affordable and tasted brilliant! The whole time Gerry was incredibly pleasant, informative and accommodating, catering the walk to our needs. I will highly recommend his guides to anyone looking to see a bit of Edinburgh and learn some hidden truths of the city!

          Excellent time wiht Edinburgh Walks
My group of twelve got to Edinburgh in the middle of october and we had an excellent time. Gerry at Edinburgh Walks arranged mini bus for pick up and dropp off, a whiskey tour and of course walk tour through the city. Gerry is a wonderful guide. His passion for history and love for the city shines through. Thank you Gerry for a wonderful time in Edinbourgh.

          Definitely a must
I booked this tour for me and my daughter and we were delighted. Gerry was an amazing and very friendly guide. He told us a lot about Edinburgh on a tour for more than 4 hours. He took us to many interesting places and gave us a lot of tips for activities and restaurants in Edinburgh. Book this tour on your first day to Edinburgh as it gives you a good impression of the city and its hidden gems. It was a great experience. It's worth the money and moreover you get first hand information from a Scotsman living in Edinburgh. As it's little groups - that day only me and my daughter - you can ask a lot about Edinburgh and Scotland. Moreover you can do it at your own pace and even stop for a coffee or a whisky if you like.

Our group of four (two couples) had a tremendous time on our private walking tour with Gerry , our guide. We booked this walking tour many months prior to the actual tour. Almost immediately after booking the tour, Gerry contacted me and gathered info about our interests, so he could tailor the walking tour to our group. I had several emails back and forth and by the time the tour started and we actually met Gerry in person, I felt like I was talking to, not just an old fashioned pen pal, but a member of my extended family that I had not seen in awhile. Gerry is very personable; throughout our 5+hours together, he continued to adjust our tour based on our interests and needs (including caffeine stops and ultimately lunch!). As a lifelong resident, Gerry is an expert on all topics about Edinburgh; and he is able to communicate this information in a very concise and, at times, entertaining way. He was able to smoothly switch topic as we asked about a wide range of Scotland and UK-related topics.
The 5+ hours we spent with Gerry went by quickly and we were disappointed (and somewhat tired….Edinburgh is a very hill city!) when it was time to say Good bye!
Great tour!!! Highly recommend it to any visitors to Edinburgh!

Our party of 9 had a delightful walk through the city’s highlights, led by Gerry. Our walk started at Carlton Hill taking in the stunning views across to Leith and Holyrood Castle, then down to the Old Town seeing its historical highlights, winding through the cobbled streets stopping to share stories and fables, pointing out key historic monuments and buildings, then finishing in a lovely pub.
The pace was just right and suited our mixed age group. We didn’t feel rushed and the walk avoided the crowds. Gerry’s local knowledge and ability to connect with people is a credit to Edinburgh Tours.
A very relaxing and insightful walk which we would tap into again when visiting the city.

Hi J & R. Thank you for your kind review. I am glad you enjoyed the day as much as I did. We were blessed with some decent weather and managed to fit a lot in. I hope all the photographs came out alright (that's why I always take two of each) and that the birthday celebrant had a memorable weekend. Any time you are back in the area please get in touch. There is so much more to see. Thanks again, G.

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Gerry. He did a great job of putting the importance of each location in the context of Edinburgh's fascinating history. He offered a perspective that included a necessary dose of humor but also empathy for the lives of Scots from the past; the history can be difficult to wrap one's head around, but he was quite good at drawing an enlightening picture. Gerry's tour is an excellent introduction to Edinburgh.

Absolutely superb private walk for a group of 4 of us on a bitterly cold December day. Gerry paced the walk appropriately so that we had a break for coffee and a sit down to defrost in the middle of it. He checked in with us as to where we would like to end the tour - ie at our hotel, where we started, or somewhere we could find a good spot for lunch. He was very considerate of our needs in terms of breaks etc.

Gerry was incredibly knowledgeable about everything to do with Edinburgh and the sights. He checked with us both in advance when we booked, and on the day before we set off, whether there was anything we were particularly interested in - there wasn't anything specific - and so he covered a wide range of historic matters on our walk of the Old and New Towns. It was honestly the best use of our time imaginable, I could not think of any other way that we would learn so much in 4 hours. We asked him all manner of questions along the way and he genuinely knew his stuff, there wasn't anything that he couldn't cover, and he had a great way of condensing information for those unfamiliar with Scottish history. Worth every penny.

Our guided walk with Gerry was invaluable, fun and incredibly informative. He contacted us beforehand to find out our interests and catered the experience to that. His extensive knowledge of Edinburgh's history, culture and sights gave us real insight into what we saw and did during the walk. He also gave us great restaurant and activity recommendations and provided suggestions on train trips outside of Edinburgh, which we did later in the week and enjoyed thoroughly. He clearly loves Scotland and wants to make sure visitors do as well!

Hi, Thanks so much for this review, it is very much appreciated. The city was very busy when we were out but we managed to find some quieter spots to take it all in. I'd be interested to know where you eventually got to on your travels out of Edinburgh by train. I suspect Linlithgow was one of them? Thanks and maybe we will see you back again.....

During our two weeks UK holiday were had several guided tours in London, Wales and Scotland. Our 4 hours with Gerry in Edinburgh were a family favorite. Gerry clearly enjoys his work and most importantly shared that with us. It really changes the experience when a guide can draw you into the tour rather than just walking around snapping photos. Gerry was great to chat with on current events as well as historic facts. Thanks again Gerry from the Phillips family.
