Great Day in the Highlands With Rowan
Aug 2020
Exceptional tour. Our family of four had a great day in the highlands. Rowan was a fantastic guide and made the day even better than we expected. Every stop was wonderful, from Doune Castle to the Three Sisters. We highly recommend this tour, and we doubly recommend Rowan!

Highlight was the Highlands Private Tour
Dec 2019
With a limited time in Scotland and two teenagers in tow, we wanted an intimate and entertaining Highlands experience and that is exactly what we got with Rowan and Highlands Private Tours. The beauty of this tour is not only limited to the indescribable nature you are confronted with. It's also in the friendly and engaging manner in which this tour company shares it with you. There is no droll commentary or cliched pipe music on this day trip to the Highlands! We mentioned what we really wanted to see and were not obliged to see things that we felt were not important to our experience. If it's a bespoke tour of the Scottish Highlands you're after, this is the company for you! Our teenagers also loved it and we all agreed, it was a day we will never forget and for that, we are very grateful to Rowan and the flexibility his tour company offered us. Thank you so much!

Spectacular Day!
First private tour. We couldn't have been any luckier to hook up with Andy Mackie. Weather was perfect & our guide was fantastic to spend the day with! We would use the Mackie brothers again & highly recommend them. Car was clean, super comfortable & perfect itinerary for a full day. The best pace 🚗. Andy we found you on Fear Factor it was a great wrap up to our night 👍😉🙌

Great day out of the city
Sep 2019 • Friends
This was a great diversion out of Edinburgh. Saw beautiful scenery, and the distillery tour and castle tour were really interesting. Rowan was a great guide and gave of great recommendations for things to do when we got back to the city too.

Two Great Tours From Edinburgh
Jul 2019 • Friends
Our group of eight friends wanted to see sights outside of Edinburgh during a long weekend break. Andy was great to deal with, offering suggestions as to where we might be interested in going but totally down to us to choose. We did a half day tour east out of Edinburgh to North Berwick, which is a lovely spot. Two days later we did the full day tour as far as Glencoe. Spectacular scenery, helped by great weather. Andy was a great companion for both trips. Highly recommended!

Travel in style with the mackie brothers
Nov 2018 • Couples
I did this tour back in November with my wife. We were staying in Edinburgh for a week and really wanted to see the highlands. I had booked a tour through one of the brothers Roman who told me on a telephone call what to expect. Lemme tell you it delivered and more. These guys run a slick tour and have a lovely Mercedes van to take you around. My wife and I had great weather which made for an even more spectacular trip. Would highly recommend this if you have a day to spare. Cheers guys.

Simply The Best
I just finished a fantastic customized tour with Ruan from Highland Private Tours.

I had three days in Edinburgh, and I knew I wanted to dedicate one day to the Highlands. But I knew it would be challenging to squeeze everything in, because there’s so much to see and so much to take in.

I wanted a tour focused on photography. Since I was primarily interested in scenery, natural beauty and Loch Ness, it was hard to find a tour that specialized in those areas, especially in February. There were plenty of pre-packaged bus tours, and they all have their proper place. But for me, it was important to see certain things, and not to waste time at others, since I knew I had just one day. The few custom tours I looked at were hard to work with; limited days or minimum group sizes. So I needed to get this tour right the first time.

I had a very specific itinerary that I worked out with Highland Private Tours by email. The tour owners were easy to work with, allowing me to add and remove sights from the tour, based on my own personal interests. Then they’d re-balance the itinerary and suggest other great ideas. They allowed me to pay the tour fee, but then finalize my actual tour date several weeks later, based on the weather forecast (very important for outdoor photography). Highland Private Tours was the only tour company that I found that was flexible and no pressure.

My guide Ruan was on time, easy-going, and informative. He made plenty of time for breakfast, lunch, photo stops, and special attractions that I hadn’t considered.

Scotland has a lot to offer, and its history is deep and fascinating. But sometimes you’re just not into hearing about kings and battles; maybe you’re more interested in knowing about folk music, handicrafts, whiskeys, or flyfishing. Ruan listened attentively and he gave me as much, or as little, information about each area as I wanted.

The mark of a great guide is being flexible in handling the unexpected; for example, if a particular place is closed, then have a couple of alternatives ready for your guests. Ruan handled this without skipping a beat. Finally, he provided front door pickup and drop-off, which was a pleasant surprise.

It was a fantastic tour and I wouldn’t hesitate to do it again. 😊🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Wonderful Adventure
Jan 2019 • Family
My family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids 11&14) had a wonderful day with Rowan and Andy. They were great to deal with from start to finish! They helped us book the tour online, gave us recommendations for our time in Scotland and answered all of our questions(my 11 year old is very curious and brought a list of questions with him;-) We took one of their mini Mack tours a few years ago and were excited to see that they now do Highlands tours!

The van was beautiful, clean. comfortable...everything you want for a long day of driving. Andy and Rowan gave us a great tour. There were definitely things they had planned but gave us plenty of time to meander on our own as well. We felt like they were part of the family by the end of the trip.

An added bonus
Dec 2018 • Solo
I did this as part of an extra. I already went on tour with Roman on their mini Mack tour and he told me about this new venture. Really glad I did their one day highlands tour. Wow it’s so beautiful up there. Saw so much in such a short space of time. It’s a long day of driving but Roman made me aware of this. So glad I can tick the highlands off.

Thanks Roman. All the best Andy

An Extraordinary Experience!
Dec 2018 • Solo
I had the pleasure of meeting Andy and Rowan last summer @minimacktours for a daytrip in Edinburgh. I had such a good experience, that I was more than thrilled when I found out they were doing day tours of the highlands, so I booked a tour last month and they did not fail to disappoint!

I was picked up promptly in front of my hotel. It was a bit of a dreary day, but that didn't bring down their spirits. Conversation was as lively, spirited, and joyful as I remember from my previous tour with Andy. One of our first stops was at Dalwhinnie distillery, and it was such a delight. I never would have found the place on my own and the whiskey was phenomenal. Other places we went to was Urquhart Castle and Loch Ness. We also made a stop in Glencoe (fascinating history with the Glencoe massacre). Being a photography buff, Rowan and Andy gave me plenty of time to take pictures of the mists over the mountain peaks and valleys. It was such a magical place. Before we went back, we stopped at Duone Castle, infamous for it's roles in Outlander and Monty Python.

I would highly recommend this tour for anyone who wants to see something more intimate than the large group tours with a good couple of engaging and charming tour guides. Thanks Rowan and Andy!
