- J7200RHtomp00Amazing tourAmazing story telling by our guide finn. Really brought the story to life on this amazing tour! 10/10 would recommend
- Nitrolck00Super SpookyGreat tour, my 15 yr old and I really enjoyed it. Lots of Edinburgh history involved which we both very much appreciated. Pretty creepy too. I'm not easily spooked but did think twice before stepping into the crypt. Happily nothing happened - which suited me just fine! Would just say that the 12 plus age restriction is there for a reason. My youngest is just 12 and I'm very glad he watched a movie with his Dad instead. The history element might bore younger children plus some of graphic stuff isn't easy to listen too. Dark times!
- Steve H00Very entertaining and enlighteningVery enjoyable tour thanks to Nat, out guide who was both informative and entertaining. About 60/40 history to ghost content
- W4856HGdenisef00Great tourWhat a fun night with my family. It was very informative. Information I never knew about the city and the tragic events that took place within the vaults. Beth was great, very articulate and created an eerie atmosphere. She did a great job of keeping the group entertained and interested. Thanks Beth for a great tour.
- 121darcyf00Great evening tourIt was amazing so funny and informative. Was really interesting and a little spooky. Claire was an amazing tour guide 10/10 a real good laugh and had a top notch Scottish accent.👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
- N4657YIlaurab00Wonderful tour guideAlastair was a very friendly, knowledgeable, and entertaining tour guide. He went out of his way to make sure everyone enjoyed the tour and even took us to some extra sites (the graves that inspired Harry Potter characters).
- Cruiser6231205209600Great tour, fantastic hostAllaster was a knowledgeable, charismatic guide. I'd recommend the tour to any group visiting Edinburgh
- _ada0inf00Amazing tour with Allister, definitely go!Would 100% recommend! Really engaging tour with tour guide Allister, he was really passionate. Equal parts fun and learning about history.
- MHNTravel00Fun Ghost TourThe tour was fun and interesting! Ben was our guide and he was great1 He was engaging, a very good storyteller, and led the group well. He made the tales of history very interesting to listen to and made sure everyone in the group could hear everything he said. Solid tour under the vaults - not too short and not too long. Easy to walk it with mostly flat, but did have some stairs, just for information. Group was appropriate size. Another note - there was a glitch with our originally intended tour date and the company reached out immediately to remedy the situation and thankfully, we were able to still have the time to reschedule the tour. They were very professional, communicative, and responsive. It was much appreciated!
- JennyS21400Brilliant TourMy friend and I went on the underground city of the dead tour (8:30pm) and our tour guide Alastair made the tour fun and educational with his good humour and fascinating facts. Going down into the tunnels was a great experience and this is now one of my favourite ghost tours. Some people may find it spooky but we could not stop smiling while we were in the vaults. Can’t wait for my next visit to Edinburgh to go on the haunted graveyard tour!
- 92hcechova00Nat is amazing! Such a great experienceWe got to explore the vaults and the graveyard all the while thoroughly enjoying Nat's history and narration. She is so knowledgeable and adds exactly the right amount of spookiness and corniness to the experience. It truly felt like we got a unique experience that other tours may try to emulate, but can't quite achieve. I highly recommend this tour to everyone!
- Jill G00Interesting and beautiful tourWonderful tour of the cemetery and prison. A lot of interesting history. Not particularly scary but creepy information and the cemetery is hauntingly beautiful. Our guide, Zander, was excellent. Very knowledgeable and funny. I highly recommend this tour.
- rae99500Brilliant tour & Beth was fab!Fantastic evening tour into the vaults! Incredible storytelling, fascinating history and a tense trip into the haunted sections. Really recommend and was something a bit different to do on an evening after dinner ☺️
- shawnaw73400Awesome experienceJust got out of the tour and it was awesome! Beth was an incredible host/guide and, besides the few of the group who had to leave because they felt a ‘presence’ 😳 it was so good! Highly recommend!!!
- chrislM1637MG00Don't believe the hypeGuide was awful generic tales of ghosties and entities .and three rooms in semi darkness pretty awful really worst £40 I spent in Edinburgh

We went on the Double Dead tour and our guide was Grant. We had an excellent time on this tour - first going to the South Bridge Vaults, and then on to Greyfriars Kirkyard to the Covenanters Prison. Grant did an absolute beast of a job being spooky, informative and funny, remaining charismatic the entire time. I will also say that I personally got very overwhelmed in the Vaults towards the end, I felt freezing cold but hot in the face and had a tight chest but Grant was very kind and understanding and even agreed that he felt similar in being both hot and cold! This was a delightful tour with something for everyone and did a great job of entertaining and frightening me in equal measures. Would highly recommend to anyone even remotely interested in the paranormal or just sightseeing the rarer sights of Edinburgh. Thank you Grant once again for being an absolute angel and truly making the tour an unforgettable experience.

Dark. Creepy. Funny. Informative. And completely encapsulating. 5 stars is simply not enough. i wish i could give more.
You can expect a moderate walk through Edinburgh's lesser travelled pages of history, looked after the whole way.
Katie was our guide, and she earned every penny. However many of those pennies you pay her, its simply not enough (although i got the impression she would do it just for the love of Edinburgh and its history). Katie is a true Scottish charmer, very knowledgeable and created the most incredible atmosphere. She took us on a journey through the dark underbelly of the city, and painted a masterpiece with all of our emotions - that she crafted with her own wit, the settings and stories she wove.
I wish i had the words to do this review justice. If you read anything i have written let it be this...
I will remember this experience for the rest of my life. And if you have the chance to go (and dont) - you will regret it for the rest of yours.

What a fantastic night we had!
Luckily that evening there was a last minute cancellation and we booked online for the 10pm tour with great excitement. We turned up at the meeting place and we were greeted by our guide for the evening, Grant! Going to the vaults first he was absolutely captivating in the way he spoke about the historical information and when it came to the spooky/ paranormal stories he was the perfect balance between funny, creepy and mysterious. As a group we were all kept hanging on his every word waiting for the next surprise he would give us! Standing in the vaults by candle light made the hairs on the back of you neck stand up, wouldn’t want to be on my own in there!
The Greyfriars Graveyard and Covenanters Prison was extremely interesting and Grant knows a lot of information around this. With his own encounters of the paranormal and just the general peculiar locals it made us all belly laugh and also gasp! Rounding off the night with a visit to George ‘Bloody’ Mackenzie’s tomb and leaving with the idea we would all might have a ghostly visitor that evening after knocking on the door was very exciting and creepy!!
My partner and I said a definite ‘nope’ when he opened the HQ with an abundance of haunted dolls inside! Spooky ending for a spooky night!
Can’t thank Grant enough for such an amazing tour, he’s the perfect guide! Even gave us a quick tour of some of the Harry Potter name graves at the end.
Thank you Grant and well worth booking on a tour with City of the Dead!

Our tour guide was Grant who was very informative and brought his personality to the tour. Great mixture of historical tales and first hand experience. Had to walk very quickly from meet point to vaults, and again from vaults to kirkyard, would have been nice to have been informed that. Wouldn’t recommend the vaults section for anyone claustrophobic. Shop at end but wasn’t at all pushy about buying stuff. If you’re still wanting to wear a mask don’t do vaults bit because it’s somewhat difficult to breathe in there. Very good about getting people air if they needed it. Great opportunity to see a part of the city that is usually locked to public (Covenanters prison/mausoleum). We have a history buff in our family and even he learned stuff, however was also inclusive of people that don’t know anything about Edinburgh history. Opportunity to be shown Harry Potter graves at the end of the tour if you wanted. Highly recommend for anyone, residents or tourists, who want to learn some history of the city that you might not find on the usual walking tours. Reasonably priced for the amount they get into the time slot.

I thoroughly enjoyed myself on this tour. John was our guide and he was very knowledgeable and funny. There were no gimmicks and you learned a lot about some of the darker parts of Edinburgh's past. It is a walking tour and you get to see parts of the city you wouldn't normally, like the underground vaults. I'd definitely recommend the double dead tour, though if you're a bit more superstitious or sensitive it might be better to either do one of the other shorter tours that don't do both the vaults and the cemetery, or avoid the tour altogether. However, if you love spooky stuff and learning about some of the grittier parts of a countries history then I'd definitely recommend the double dead tour!

This tour was my first stop in Edinburgh and it was a great call! The tour guide was a fantastic entertainer and we laughed and marveled and shuddered as he took us up and down the Royal Mile. Well worth it to go for the underground/graveyard double tour if you can. Our group had a mix of folks old to young and all seemed to really enjoy themselves. Was more than happy to tip the guide well once we finished up. Was it scary? Actually yes! Was it fun? 100%.

Myself and my fiancee are avid dark tourism fans and were very excited to go on this tour which didn't disappoint. Our tour guide was Grant who I thought was an excellent guide, charismatic storyteller, funny, knowledgable and great at creating suspense and a feeling of dread. This coupled with the naturally macabre settings of the vaults and the Covenanter's Prison meant a genuinely creepy and fascinating experience. Thoroughly recommend the tour to anyone visiting Edinburgh who has any interest in its dark history.
Also on a random note thanks to Grant who mentioned binging Stardew Valley on the Switch, I am a big gamer and been looking for an excuse to play it for ages now...

Really enjoyed the tour. Massive shoutout to our guide Grant who was absolutely brilliant at creating a tense atmosphere throughout, both with his knowledge and his charismatic way of storytelling. He was so enthusiastic and actively involved the audience in order to create suspense. Most notably by “picking” on my girlfriend a lot which gave us all plenty to laugh about. The location itself is creepy especially on a cold evening which only adds to the fear. Would definitely recommend doing this.

After booking our tour we had to change our travel dates. I contacted them by phone and explained that we would like to change the dates if possible as due to work commitments we were unable to travel as originally planned. They asked me to email them all the details and they would check to see if it was possible. I never received an email back from them at all. They just took my money and didn’t even try to swap our dates. Even an email to say they were fully booked would have been something but to just be ignored completely with no response. Very poor customer service. I would not recommend.

We chose Double Dead tour as we went to the same areas 10 years ago on our 20th wedding anniversary so decided to repeat in our 30th year. Well, where do I start? Let’s start at the tree where we meet. Our guide was Grant who was very knowledgeable, organised, great sense of humour and obviously passionate about the history of this amazing city. The vaults are fascinating and I could quite easily spend the night just watching, waiting and talking to spirit. What a story they would tell!!! Grant creates the atmosphere and tells you the history of these vaults. We then walk to the Greyfriars Kirkyard and have access to the Covenant’s prison which is only accessible on THIS tour so that alone is the reason to choose this one. You are allowed to spend some time in parts of the prison remains to experience the atmosphere and hopefully come into contact with people who have passed on. This location is eery and again the history is fact so you can imagine the conditions at that time. You also see the tomb of George McKenzie who persecuted the prisoners. Lots of bloody history is told by Grant again. Absolutely loved our tour and going back to the Kirkyard today so we can see the inscriptions. If you are looking for history, fact, legend and being in areas spirit and ghosts are said to be (and they will be) this is the tour for you and if you are lucky to have Grant to take you on your journey you will be pleased. Hoping to be back in another 10 years although I cannot guarantee I will get round the streets as fast as I can now!!! Grant, see you then.Enjoy, and always count how many are in your group at the beginning as you may be joined by another, who tags along, but isn’t of this life......

Hi there, sorry for the very late reply but as someone else may be wondering the same,..... We have to limit ticket sales online due to our tour limit of 35 persons and as we have a few online ticket vendors the last thing we want is to over sell a tour. Even if T.A says its sold out please call the phone number as there will most likely still be tickets available.
best wishes
Jamie
