About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Cyndi5550 contributionsOnce we were off ~ it was a GREAT day!Upon arriving in South Queensferry, our driver was no where to be found! Luckily, another tour guide had Alan Fee's (owner of Ecosse Executive - Day Tours) number and we were quickly communicating via text. We were told our driver was stuck in traffic (due to an accident ~ no fault of his) and would be there as soon as possible. As all are aware, on vacation "time is your currency" and we spent 1.5 hours of our 8 hour day (approximately 20%) waiting for Paul, our driver to arrive. Once onsite the vehicle was immaculate and Paul did a great job with the remaining 6.5 hours ~ but time lost, is time lost. Our first stop was a detour to Falkland village where scenes of Outlander were filmed and we were serenaded by a local gentleman. Paul made the remaining 80% of the day engaging, enjoyable, and customized to our interests, yet somewhat rushed as he kept us moving along. We viewed the Forth Rail Bridge, took pictures at the famous bridge on the 18th hole of the St. Andrews course, enjoyed lunch at a tavern in St. Andrews, visited the Dunfermline Abbey ruins, but not really sure we saw much of East Neuk or the coastline. We would have loved to have another 1.5 hour of our day with Paul to expand our knowledge of this beautiful country and be entertained along the way. We lost approximately 20% of our day due to a traffic accident and Alan has determined that no compensation at all will be provided. So in short ~ based upon other reviews ~ if all goes well you will have a GREAT time/tour, but if there are issues, do not expect to be compensated by Ecosse Executive - Day Tours.Written June 13, 2024
- J7960BXmarleneb0 contributions1st time in Scotland tourFantastic guide (Paul) and tour! We saw the highlights of Edinburgh and learned lots of history and fun facts.Written November 10, 2023
- Kari M0 contributionsBest Tour EverWe had the best time going to each of the Outlander sites. Our tour guy was the best. He knew about so many things Oulander, Edinburgh and many other movies. We listen to Scottish music traveling from site to site. We even had 3 boys with us ages, 9, 7, 4 and they were interested and tired by the end of the day.Written September 12, 2023
- kjcroke0 contributionsDriver never showed up! No communication at all. Tried calling company several times. Got voice mail and no call backHorrible experience. Driver never showed up. Tried calling several times and got voice mail and never received call back. RUINED OUR DAY!! Don’t use this company. They are a fraud!!Written August 27, 2023
- Roving389871484170 contributionsBest tour of our entire tripA wonderful trip. Beautiful scenery, lovely chapel, delicious dinner and full on excitement at the Military Tatoo. The vehicle was extremely clean and comfortable. Our driver was friendly, knowledgeable and very humorous. I would highly recommend this company!Written August 21, 2023
- juanitap6900 contributionsExcellent serviceHis lordship Alan was a perfect host in our Day tour of Edinburg city including Roslyn chapel and military tattoo. Even though we weren’t expected to bow and curtsy in front of him his stories and knowledge of the area was excellent. Ha ha. I would highly recommend this company to my friends. Well done Alan.Written August 10, 2023
- 844earlet0 contributionsLast Minute Cancellation of a booked TourOur tour was to take place on June 10, 2023 at 9:00 AM. On June 9, 2023, at 10:18 AM Toronto time (3:18 PM London england time) We receivied an e-mail saying "Unfortunately your tour operator for Private Day Trip to St Andrews Dunfermline and the Fife Coast from Edinburgh had to cancel your booking." No other explanation was given. Needless to say this late notice left us no time to make other arrangements. Very disappointing. Trip advisor has refunded the cost of the tour.Written June 19, 2023
- jennysX1805RO0 contributionsGreat day to spend exploring on a bus tripThe trip to St Andrew’s was very enjoyable. Our driver Graeme was very entertaining and very knowledgeable, giving us plenty of time at each stop to explore. Bus was, wry comfortable also.Written June 15, 2023
- TomE4370 contributionsMost Wonderful Tour of EdinburghMy wife and I had a half day City tour of Edinburgh. It was quite marvelous and unforgettable. We have taken private tours all over the world and this was one of the best tours ever. Alan, our driver and the company owner, met us promptly at the pier in a clean and comfortable van. He is extremely knowledgeable about the history of Edinburgh and all things Scottish. He has wonderful stories to share about each historical site that really brings things to life. Since we wanted to shop for some specific Scottish items, we chose not to go into many of the historical sites he took us to. He knew all the right shops for us to visit, where the goods were high quality, prices were fair and the shopkeepers very pleasant. He was very flexible, adjusting the typical tour schedule to meet our interests. All in all, it was a most enjoyable afternoon. You can’t go wrong with booking a tour with Ecosse Executive.Written May 30, 2023
- DutchGerardus0 contributionsSuperior tour guideThe day was spectacular not only because the weather was awesome (May 24), but Allan (the owner) was even better! He made our stay in Edinburgh outstanding. He's extremely knowledgeable, professional, courteous. He is patient, gives ample time to see the sights, Provides many historical facts to link the current state of the city with the past of Scotland's history He is highly recommended, don't look any further and do yourself a favor, book with his company when visiting Edinburgh. You will not regret it!!!Written May 24, 2023

- tatianabG381IJ0 contributions"Most Memorable Private Tour of Laphroig Distillery"We had a private tour with Ecosse executive on October 30, 2022. We had three days to spend in Edinburgh and I wanted to visit Laphroig distillery during one of those days. I spoke to the concierge at the Hotel who recommended them. Then I got in touch with Alan who arranged the tour. We negotiated the price and agreed on the details. They had a private driver take us there and back in a beautiful limousine. We left the hotel at 8 Am and returned at 2AM the next day. It was an extraordinary tour and an absolutely beautiful experience. The driver, Paul, was excellent and highly professional yet humble and down to earth person. They arranged for the ferry across the channel on the way to the distillery and back as well as all other road requirements. Importantly the price was right and worth every penny the experience and service we received. In fact, we are planning to have a custom tour of Scotland with them in the next year or so. Thank you both Alan and Paul. You guys are the best!Written January 25, 2023
- CareFree20100 contributionsGrossly overpriced, with some good pointsThe experience - other than being overpriced - included a visit to Rosslyn Chapel, which has to be one of the most overrated tourist sites in the world. In summary, it’s dumb. It was built (and not completed) as a vanity chapel by a rich family, and has no relevance whatsoever to the year 2022. Also, I don’t care about either the novel or the movie about Da Vinci Code. The military Tattoo was outstanding, but tickets for that (on our ticket stub) were about £60, so far, far less than what we were charged for this excursion.Written October 3, 2022
- cindyheximer0 contributionsHorrible experience!WARNING! We booked this tour about TWO MONTHS in advance. We were Very excited. LESS THAN 24 hours before, it was cancelled!! Viator said Ecosse Executive cancelled but they are also at fault since their subcontractor. Luckily our travel agent found a replacement but in short notice, it was much more expensive! I won’t be using Viator again!Written September 30, 2022
- Venture7510440 contributionsWORTH EVERY CENTFantastic! Fantastic! Fantastic! Best thing we did in Edinburgh and worth every cent! Alan was amazing and his knowledge of Scotland and various topics is unparalleled!! We thoroughly enjoyed every moments.Written August 19, 2022

Edinburgh Royal military Tattoo.
Having been several times for the last decade, I can honestly say that the show has changed a lot, and in my humble opinion, not for the better. The ambience and excitement is the same prior to the show, but where is the chap who used to have bNter with the crow3, "who's f t om America, who's from Chin, who's from England? Etc, mentions names big shout outs etc, and during the show introduce the acts, not just leave people to try and figure out where they come from. They used to have a kids choir, not NY more. What happened to all the military stuff? Where's the white helmets motorcycles, things of that nature, drill teams from America or somewhere. The mSs pipes and drums are the backbone of the show along with the Highland dancers. But honestly, it's been cut down to just over an hour now. And at £75 per ticket it's lost its audience. I've no doubt it will be sold out as per every year, but for those of us who have been going for years, it's not what this great show once was. Shame. Can't see me attending anytime soon, rather just go to the Fringe and a show.
Bring back the military side of things and get it back to its roots. Bring back the commentator.

Thank you for taking the time to give us a review, it's very much appreciated. However, your comments are ALL about a show that we as a company have no control over, it would have been nicer/better to submit your review on your overall experience of the whole day and based your review on that, not just the performance? regards, Alan

Cannot say enough about this tour. Probably the highlight of our trip. The tour company was Ecosse Executive. Our tour guide was the owner, Alan Fee. This is a very professional, courteous company. We were picked up in a Mercedes vehicle that was like a limo where 4 people could sit, 2 each side facing each other with lots of room. Vehicle was clean and in great shape. Alan is so very knowledgeable and willing to share that knowledge. He took us around to some great spots in Edinburgh and pointed out areas of interest. We had lots of time to look around and get great photos. Then off to Rosslyn Chapel, which again has so much history and worth the trip. Our Scottish dinner was delicious. What a great spot. Wish I could remember the name to leave them a review. Loved every bite. And Alan taught us the "proper" way to drink Scottish whiskey.
Then off to the Military Tattoo. The performers were the best of the best. Even through the pouring rain. The vehicle was waiting for us when we were done and promptly brought us back to the hotel. Our driver for the excursion, Alan (yes, also Alan) was great. Felt very comfortable and safe the entire trip. Thanks to you both and thanks to Tony who brought us back to the hotel. What an experience. One that we will never forget and worth every dime.

Alan was a wonderful guide and entertaining host. The entire tour was lovely, I wish we had more time on the Royal Mile, but other than that we all had an amazing day! My (83yo) dad had a wonderful time on his bucket list trip with his daughters. As a plus, he has very comfortable van.

I loved this event been waiting years to see it but was so disappointed with the modern take on it. It just was awful ! Why change something that was so magnificent. All the singing and dancing totally killed it!! Bring back the old version

Hi Suzette, thank you for taking time to give us your review. However, the Tattoo performance is not up to us? We offer a full day excursion which includes tickets for the Tattoo, your 3* rating has a direct effect as a day/extended tour provider. I feel that to base your feedback on a show that we have no control over is very unfair, and would have preferred that you had reviewed our part in the WHOLE experience? Regards, Alan

What a truly superb experience, the show is fantastic and the staff couldn't be more helpful. My Wife had a medical emergency and it looked as if we would have to return to our Hotel, but after she had been attended to by a a paramedic, the Steward staff very kindly found us an alternative place to sit.
It was a wonderful experience that we will never forget

Alan was great!!! Very passionate about his country (ex military) very passionate about his WISKEY (see Alan I remembered not to add the scotch). Very informative guide. Tour was outstanding. Rosslyn Chapel was great could have spent more time there but then we would have missed the great dinner. Learned a lot on this tour. When we return will use him again. Ask him to take you to see jake a cute dog and great store. You can’t go wrong with this company. Van was very comfortable.

This is a not to be missed event. The music, marching and light show were amazing! We were in the last row of the stadium, but could see everything! The bagpipes and Scottish dancers were the highlight!

The tattoo was GREAT, beautiful weather, great seats, wonderful program. The only problem I had was that they did not announce who the different groups were. They were selling a book about the size of a good sized magazine but I just wanted what I thought of as a "program", something similar to what you get when you go to a play. There was nothing like that. The only group announced was from New Zealand, don't know why the others were not. With some of the groups, you could tell, it was obvious who they were, others not so much. But, I do highly recommend. You just might want to consider buying the book.

I'm delighted that you had such a great experience. However I am a little bit concerned that you have only given us a 4* review based on the Tattoo's slight lack of where the performers were fro, which is something that we have no control over?

There are 4 of us planning this trip for August 2021 before booking I need to understand how the seating at the event works. My husband has mobility issues. Are there seats for individuals that are unable to climb extensively /many stairs? If so how would it work with 4 in the group? Would he have to sit separate from us? What medical documentation is required? Details would be appreciated.
