- T2405BLcarolinek00Wonderful tour of Scotland !!I had a wonderful time on this tour!! it was a great way to see the country and made me fall in love with Scotland. The guide was very knowledgeable about history and explained everything well. It was also very nice to be part of a small group and made seeing everything extraordinary! Would book with this company again!
- robertakN8997EG00Perfect Guide and beautiful TripJames has been an incredibile guide for 4 beautiful days. Really enthusiastic and passionate about showing us everything. He showed us incredible landscapes that really left us breathless. James was a real Scottish man, with so much good humour and full of stories to tell along the way. Also very professional. Definitely I would do it again!
- tomkV1353HD00Great Day but a long one.We went on the tour to the Highlands & Loch Ness it is a very long day of driving, however coming from Edinburgh it’s expected. Euan our tour guide was very professional and seemed proud of his heritage. We stopped at many photo stops to the Highlands and had enough restroom breaks even though be careful not to drink too much coffee or Tea or Water because some legs of the trip can be almost 2 hours without a restroom. The views out the windows of the Mercedes Passenger Van was amazing and photo stops have some best views. Unfortunately cameras cannot do the actual view justice. The trip overall was a little rushed but we completely understand the distance needed to get to Loch Ness from Edinburgh. Euan our guide is very very good and a professional driver on these roads. We appreciate the awesome day he provided.
- GoPlaces6159730531700Loved Hadrian’s Wall!Had a great day out with Alan driving, and giving a great historical commentary for much of the way. As an Australian, I found the commentary very useful. The highlight for me was Housesteads and Hadrian’s Wall.
- daveandjeris00Lovely tour, learned and saw so much.We took a private tour booked on The Wee Red Bus. It was a 3 day Isle of Skye and Highlands tour. We loved our driver and tour guide Angela. She taught and showed us so much about Scotland history and sites. We loved the Isle of Skye with friendly tourists and locals alike. If there was a question Angela couldn't answer, she found the answer for us. She hiked out with us to Neist Point Lighthouse and the Fairy Glens which made it fun! By the way, all 4 of us on this tour are mid to late 60s! We would definitely do The Wee Red Bus tour again and would request Angela once more!
- mkcalfee00Best tour company and guide in Scotland! If you are going to do any tours in Scotland you have to use Heart of Scotland. I visited in 2016 and used them for a 2 and 3 day tours. When I came back this October 2023 with my cousin I knew that Heart of Scotland was the only way to go. My cousin and I did the 5-day tour and our trip was fantastic because of our tour guide Euan. Not only was he extremely knowledgeable about history and geography but he made everything come to life for us. It rained daily (to be expected) but Euan was always thinking about how he could arrange the itinerary to maximize our time and to keep us dry. He was also very personable and easy to chat with. Euan’s experience as a tour guide is what made the trip. In terms of the actual itinerary the Highlands and Isle of Skye were out of this world. The mountains are so majestic and breathtaking and the lochs and harbors stunning. I could have stayed there forever! B&B accommodations selected by Heart of Scotland were also very nice. Well worth it! If you come to Scotland, definitely check out Heart of Scotland tours and cross your fingers that you get Euan as your tour guide.
- WindyCityBard00Two trips - Highlands and Rossyln Chapel/Hadrians WallWill review two trips below. Well worth it - leave the driving to the professionals! Rossyln Chapel / Hadrians Wall - great trip to see the most unique and different church that I have ever seen. Hadrians wall is well worth it but please note that it is a steep hike up for the hill - this might be difficult to impossible to see the fort and wall up close if you have mobility issues. We do not but it was still a bit of a hike. Also this trip is almost all back roads so very bumpy and people may even want to bring dramamine for this trip. Highlands - I am not a huge nature guy but seriously recommend this if you are in Scotland- the highlands are always pictured in the movies but even more magnificent in person. Just wow! Other things - bring bottled water for the bus. And you can store small bags or coats above you. Recommend getting there 10-15 minutes earlier than suggested departure meeting time (ex. Departs at 8am but meet at 7:45am - you may wish to get there by 7:30 or 7:35am for first choice of seats). You can bring food on the bus but nothing stinky or offensive to others. Good guides and safe drivers!
- Venture6473455912200A Wonderful Experience on the BordersI thoroughly enjoyed my trip to the Rosslyn Chapel, the Borders, and Hadrian's Wall on the wee red bus. Our guide, Angela, was extremely welcoming, engaging, and knowledgeable. She was a great storyteller who always went above and beyond to ensure everyone on the tour had a great experience. The Rosslyn Chapel was ornately beautiful, the views of the borders were expansive and stunning, and the hike to Hadrian’s Wall, while somewhat exhausting, was worth every step. I highly recommend this tour, the Heart of Scotland tour company, and our wonderful guide Angela.
- Jggudzinas00Excellent tour to the borders, Hadrian’s Wall and Rosslyn Chapel on the Wee Red BusGreat day tour from Edinburgh. Our tour guide Angela was very knowledgeable and engaging. From historical background and information to a great musical playlist during the drive, our guide made the tour very entertaining and educational. Highly recommend this tour and our guide Angela.
- chriscJ5415RA00Wonderful experience on Secrets of Scotland 8 day tourThe trip was wonderful. Keith, our guide, was excellent. In addition to being very knowledgeable on history he was also very familiar with the roads and the countryside. He adapted to changing conditions and delivered an excellent tour. We would not hesitate to book another tour with this company.
- KLdabrow00Fantastic TripWe booked a one day tour out of Edinburgh and visited Stirling Castle, Loch Lomond, and Glengoyne Distillery. Alan was our tour guide and he was an absolute gem! Alan was kind, flexible, informative, intelligent, and funny. We bombarded him with an impressive amount of questions and he had an incredible answer for each! Alan was receptive to our personal interests and planned the route accordingly. He certainly made this tour unforgettable for us. I would highly recommend this tour and definitely Alan. This tour also had an appropriate amount of bathrooms breaks and time for lunch. When booking this experience, this company was fantastic to work with as well.
- SanDiegoAllan00Great experience with Keith on a private Best of Scotland TourMy husband and I had a perfect day exploring Scotland on the “Best of Scotland” tour on the Wee Red Bus with Keith our guide. It was a great trip that started with the best coffee and scones in Dunkeld, seeing their beautiful Cathedral, visiting Blair Castle in pretty Pitlochry, and going to unique places like Queen's View and the Hermitage which had absolutely breathtaking views. We took tons of great photos!! Keith provided lots of personal touches including some great stories, explaining the history, and even some whiskey tasting. We highly recommend Keith, the Heart of Scotland Tours on the Wee Red bus. We are looking forward to when we can return with the whole family and will do a several day private guided trip!
- 477kristinn_00A wonderful adventure in Scotland with my friends and a great guide.Me and my 12 friends from Iceland took a trip with Heart of Scotland. This was a private tour with a driver guide. The tour was total 3 days and was extremely enjoyable and educating. Our guide Derek Crowford Munn was very informative and nice. He informed us about all the things we needed to know and answered all our questions. Excellent performance from Derek👍 We did visit Isle of Skye and Lock Nes and many other places. Exelent planning from Heart of Scotland. Thanks for everything. We will definitely be back 😊
- Y176QYloria00Still Trying To Absorb Our Stunning Small Group Tour With Heart of Scotland Tours and adeo TravelA year ago my best friend and I and our husbands were looking for a small group tour company to use for a long-awaited trip to Scotland. It was a blessed day when Heart of Scotland Tours in partnership with adeo Travel popped up on my search. We knew we would love Scotland, but as we departed a few days ago we were just in awe of its stunning beauty, friendly people and vast history and we have James Farrell, our driver/guide in The Wee Red Bus from Heart of Scotland Tours and Luke Manning, travel consultant at adeo Travel to thank. The adeo Secrets of Scotland small group tour we just experienced was seamless and magical and touched us all beyond words. It was an experience we are still trying to fully absorb. James Farrell, our Heart of Scotland tour driver/guide was simply exceptional (not bad). His love and knowledge of Scotland and his eagerness to share its history, folklore and music with us created an incredible (mystical and magical) adventure for the entire group. He took the time to get to know each member of the group separately but also deftly read us as an entire group...i.e. were we timely (timing is everything), willing and physically able to explore beyond the stated itinerary...and every day he expanded our itinerary to our absolute delight. Clava Cairns, Culloden Battlefield, The Fairy Pools, little hikes to secret places and out of the way pubs for lunch were just a few such itinerary expansions (all good). Although the skies were remarkably...unexpectedly... sunny and blue most of our trip, when the weather was inclement (variable and changeable), James showed us the mist and fog and rain just added to the beauty of this land. His love of family and friends, sense of humor, and expansive, quirky sense of music brought laughter, hilarious karaoke and more than a few tears to our eyes. We came together as strangers but left as Clan James forever. The fairies (in my opinion) truly blessed us with James as our fearless guide who we now call friend. James (future King of Scotland) will definitely be our guide for any future Scottish adventures. If you are fortunate to get James as your driver/guide, the humor behind the items in parenthesis above will come to light. We loved The Wee Red Bus from Heart of Scotland tours; it certainly draws attention wherever it goes. The seat and luggage accommodations were absolutely perfect for our group of 5 couples. In addition to his masterful driving, James kept the bus spotlessly clean and sanitized for us. Luke Manning's pre-travel service at adeo Travel went above and beyond and spanned an entire year of planning. There was never a question too big or too small for Luke to answer - a sure sign our concerns/interests were paramount to him. All of our accommodations were booked by adeo Travel and were varied as to style and location (boutique in the heart of Edinburgh, steeped with history in the countryside or rustic along the West Highland Way) which added to the mystique and authenticity of the trip. The included, hearty Scottish or continental breakfasts fortified you for your day of travel, and the provided dinners were sometimes private and enchanting or public and fun. We really enjoyed the free days in the itinerary with Hop on/Hop Off bus tickets where we could explore sites and, of course, find pubs and dining on our own. As we left the Isle of Skye on the ferry to the mainland, a rainbow appeared as if to say 'Haste ye back." We will be back as there is so much more of Scotland to explore and absorb and Heart of Scotland Tours and adeo travel we be part of our clan.
- Q5899AHlenap00Very joyful 5-day Highlands experience. Can’t wait to visit again!Fabulous tour! Calum is very passionate about Scotland and it was lovely to hear all the stories and legends as we were driving and enjoying these incredible Highland sites. All the accommodation hosts at the guest houses were lovely and very hospitable (the accommodation was booked by the tour operator). Tremendously enjoyed the experience !

An amazing day out. Picked up by James from our hotel.
Took us round with great stops on the way to Loch Ness and back giving stunning views of the Highlands that we will cherish forever. James was fantastic. Very obliging and went out of his way to help. He gave an excellent and knowledgeable commentary on the way with a personal touch which made it all the more enjoyable. It was like a good friend showing us round the place.
The bus has 13 seats and ample leg room, ideal for our group of 9 people.
Driving was excellent.
Stops were perfectly planned for photo opportunities and for convenience breaks and James even found 1 or 2 additional stops to accommodate for our highland cow enthusiasm and fascination of the beauty of the Highlands.
Always kept to time with a Loch Ness cruise factored in.
We wish James all the very best and thank him for a great day out.
Booking with the company was easy and all queries and questions were promptly answered prior to booking. Everything was clearly detailed.
Pricing was very reasonable compared to other companies we contacted.
All in all it was a very enjoyable experience and one that will stay with us forever.

Heart of Scotland Tours did a fantastic job. The tour was amazing. We were picked up by Keith, our tour guide in a very comfortable van. Considering the fact we were on the road a lot we have seen the most beautiful parts of Scotland. Keith was great, while driving he was telling us some Scottish history and interesting facts about places we were passing. We were stopping quite a lot to have some free time and to take photos of breathtaking views. When we reached Loch Ness we went on a boat which is definitely worth doing. You will need to pay extra for that but its worth it. Alternatively you can wonder around little town for about 1.5 hours while boat trip takes place.
This was their first tour after easing of
lockdown due to pandemic and we felt very safe. There was social distancing in place and hand sanitisers available.
I highly recommend this company when you are in Edinburgh, especially when you are going for a few days only as this tour offers a lot in 12 hours!
Thank you Keith for a such fantastic experience!

Had a lovely time visiting the Highlands. Graham was a great tour guide, funny and knowledgable and I learned a lot about Scotland and British history from him. This tour has a lot of driving around but they are frequent stops for stretching your legs and taking photos. The highlight of the trip for me is seeing up close some red deers which Graham knew where to find. On the day of the tour there was a lot of rain but the tour was well worth it nevertheless! For the most part you are inside the bus or inside the cruise if you choose to do it in Loch Ness so it doesn't matter too much if it is raining and cold.

A really good trip for a day which turned out to have so much rain, wind and cloud! We left at 7:45, allowing us to get ahead of other tours. Our driver, Paul, knows A LOT about the country and spent most of the day driving whilst sharing the history and interesting knowledge about the areas we went through. He customised the trip somewhat based on the weather and what we'd be able to see. I'd recommend jumping on the optional Loch Ness boat trip - There's only so much you can see from the shores, and you get spectacular views from the boat. All in all, a great use of around 11 hours, a great guide and a chance to see lots of areas that the standard visitor wouldn't know to look for!

Excellent tour and would 100% recommend.
This was a surprise birthday present for my partner and we both really enjoyed the whole day. Our guide Euan was fantastic! He explained everything in detail and answered any questions the group had. He gave interesting historical and modern overviews of our destinations, with some jokes we are still laughing at. It was especially interesting for me as an English person to learn about all the history that we never learned about in school.
The tour it self sounds longer than it actually feels. Its scattered with beautiful photo / pit stops so you're not on the bus for hours on end. When you are on the bus you're engaged by the stories or peacefully watching the scenery go by with a mixture of music in the back ground (little bit of nice Scottish folk music or modern chart style music). It was a great balance of talking/stories, music, and quietness.
The boat tour of Loch Ness was seamless, off the bus with 15mins before we had to walk straight on to the boat (we had to pay extra for this but worth it, it's was the cherry on the cake for us).

We only had 2 days in Edinburgh and this trip was a very good use of our time as we fit so much sightseeing into one day. We had Keith as our guide and he made sure everyone was very well looked after and seemed to know about great places to visit all over Scotland. Our guide knew all the best places to go to and we spent a good amount of time at each place. The van was well equipped for covid with hand sanitisers and reminders that masks must be worn, and after the lockdown it was very nice to see so much open space and nature. I really enjoyed seeing some rocky waterfalls and some highland cows up close, I'd highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Edinburgh.

Hello and thanks for taking the time to review Keith and our (hopefully temporary) protocols to deal with the scourge of Covid. It's nice to hear our wild open spaces and beautiful countryside gladdened the heart a wee bit...

What an awesome day trip this was. Paul was an excellent guide, he was so pleasant the moment we stepped on the bus. What really made the trip even better was that he knew all the best photo stops, was so clued up on the history, gave us load so jokes and managed to relate to everyone! Thanks Paul for being awesome and kind. I’m requesting you if ever I’m visiting Edinburgh again. Love Simone, Natalia and Agnes (Dr Sandy Beaches) 😂!

We had a wonderful day with our tour guide Scott; he was knowledgeable - shared lots of historical sound bites throughout and he was enthusiastic! We stopped at so many other points that aren't listed on the tour which were beauty spots. The Scottish Highlands are magical anyway so just watching out the window during the journey is mesmerising. We also had an opportunity to feed some Highland cows. When we got to Loch Ness there was an opportunity to go on a boat trip however if you want to do this you must take cash as they don't accept card - we wished we had known but we still enjoyed our lunch on the banks of the Loch. I would highly recommend this whole trip if you want to cram in a lot in 1 day and a big plus is that the route home is complete different so it keeps you awake. Thank you so much to Scott and the Heart of Scotland team - we loved it.

We would highly recommend this 1day tour, if you’re in Edinburgh for a short time. Our guide Paul, was informative and very friendly and it was a nice small group. Despite the dramatic weather (wind, rain, sleet and sun) the scenery was breathtaking. The little ferry ride on the Loch Ness (additional activity) is also worth going on.
Note: the tour covers a lot of ground, so are on the tour bus for a while, but the stops and breaks along the way makes it worth while.

Our group of three really enjoyed our day trip with Graham. Even though the weather was pretty miserable, we weren't expecting it to be great for a January 2 day trip. Our tour guide Graham was very informative, friendly, and funny as well. Some spots were a little tough to see the scenery because of the rain and clouds, but I would definitely recommend this trip for the spring and summer. For the winter months, I would probably only recommend this trip if you really want to go see the Highlands and Loch Ness. Either way, whenever you do decide to make the trip, I would definitely recommend Heart of Scotland Tours over anyone else

Hello there,
Thank you for joining us on the Wee Red Bus and braving the Scottish winter weather - it can get a little dreich especially in January! We are glad that you enjoyed the trip, and Graham's warm humour along the way, despite the rain.
Kind regards
Helen and the HOST team

Is it possible to end your journey early at Loch Ness if accommodations are booked nearby?

I don’t see why not, as long as you have a ride back to Edinburgh or wherever you’re going back to. I would alert them to your plan. I doubt, however, that they would pick you up on a trip back, as the seats would be booked for the whole return tour for someone else.

Hi there. I want to visit Scotland in April and would like to do a tour like this. But I also actually want to stay a few days in Fort William, so I wonder if after the bulk of the day tour is done I would be able to be dropped off somewhere near, so I can get a train, bus or taxi to Fort William, e.g. Glen Spean.
From the description it sounds like Glen Spean is one of the last destinations, is that correct and would a drop off like this be possible?

Hi, yes the driver stop at the cottage, we can only took photo at the bridge but not to the cottage as to respect the owner. I hope this help, but the view is very beautiful.

How much time is spent at Loch Ness? Is there time for the boat tour and/or what types of options are there while there? I've noticed some tours offer an optional short lake cruise, for example.

Overrall, I felt like there was a decent amount of time in Loch Ness. We had a 45 minute boat tour that was an optional expense, but well worth it. We also had enough time to walk around the town a bit. I would say we had about an hour and a half and it was plenty of time. If you are not going to go on the boat tour, there are shops and places to get food around, but the Loch is the main attraction.
