About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- I3854AZabigailm0 contributionsAn unforgettable experience! This trip was incredible! Jada was a fabby driver with lots of interesting knowledge of the areas we were travelling through and did a good job keeping us on track. As an Edinburgh local, I didn’t know what to expect on this trip as I had visited these locations on many occasion in the past. But! The tour was extremely enjoyable and a nice relaxing way to experience Glencoe/highlands without the stress of driving the winding roads. I believe this is the perfect way for anyone, especially tourists, to experience the beauty that is the Scottish highlands.Written January 12, 2025
- Roz W0 contributions3 Day Tour of Highlands, Isle of Skye and Loch NessThis was an amazing experience. We had an Australian guy called Mark as our tour guide and driver - he was fantastic! He told us so much about the history of Scotland. He was funny and entertaining, obliging and incredibly knowledgeable. Absolutely first class trip!Written January 10, 2025
- clairefE8351MA0 contributionsScottish Winter WonderlandWe really enjoyed our time on this tour. Mark, our Aussie guide, was super friendly and gave some great insights, stories and history of Scotland along the way. Loved being able to see so many things including some considerable snow! So good! We had a blast. The only downfall was missing out on some places due to weather and road closures which couldn't be helped but is something to keep in mind when doing this tour in winter. With that said, Mark continued to make the trip positive and enjoyable and this will be a great memory.Written January 10, 2025

- Adventure090577121000 contributionsUnforgettable Scottish Adventure with the Amazing Cliff! Here’s a review for you: --- We recently went on a three-day tour with Timberbush Tours to the Isle of Skye, Loch Ness, Glencoe, and the Highlands, starting from Edinburgh, and it was an unforgettable experience. Our guide, Cliff, truly made the trip special. He was incredibly courteous, friendly, and supportive throughout the journey. Cliff was patient and took the time to ensure everyone was comfortable, showing us all the sights in a very organized manner. He shared so many interesting stories and facts about the places we visited, which added a lot of depth to the experience. His passion for Scotland’s history and culture was contagious! The itinerary was well-planned, and we never felt rushed. From the breathtaking scenery of the Highlands to the charm of the Isle of Skye, every moment was memorable. The views were spectacular, and Cliff even made time for extra stops to take in some hidden gems. We’re so glad we chose Timberbush Tours. This trip was not just a tour but a beautiful journey into Scotland’s soul. Highly recommend them, and if you’re lucky enough to have Cliff as your guide, you’re in for a treat.Written January 9, 2025

- reidf20250 contributionsFabulous tour with Paul S. & Timberbush ToursWe had an absolutely amazing day with Timberbush Tours, all thanks to our fantastic host, Paul Santa! We took a 1-day tour departing from Edinburgh with stops at Loch Lomond, Stirling Castle, and The Kelpies. At each stop, Paul S. suggested things to enhance the experience. “Don’t miss the tapestry room at Stirling Castle” was the best tidbit. (Side note: Stirling Castle is so much better than Edinburgh Castle) Upon returning home, we always discuss what was the best memory of the trip. Hands down, all four of us agreed it was our day with Paul Santa on the Timberbush tour.Written January 2, 2025

- YourTripCommentor0 contributions10/10 experienceAustralian Mike gave a great tour! Good facts, good humor and great story telling. Each location we stopped at was great and we even got a few extra unplanned stops because we had time and because the amount of rain recently made the stops even better (such as the overflowing dam). While the back row was extremely uncomfortable on the bus and I would have moved if I could, the tour was excellent! 10/10 would recommend to anyone!Written December 30, 2024
- sudiptok20180 contributionsNot quite the tour we were expectingFour of us took the day trip to Isle of Skye and Eilean Donan Castle from Inverness. Overall we faced bad weather but of course the company can do nothing about that. My main problem was with the tour description on the website which is really a "summer description" and can be misleading if you book this trip in winter - so beware and verify everything before you book. Let me elaborate. The tour description clearly mentions "there would be a stop at strome viewpoint for views of loch carron". Note that this is while returning to Inverness and in winter as it gets dark - you are not given this stop - so you really do not get full value for the money or rather all what you are promised. I contacted the company about this to which they replied that they reserve the right to alter tour itineraries at any time, due to circumstances beyond their control and obviously sunset is beyond their control. But the point is that they definitely knew the time of arrival here prior to departure and should have informed us that they will not be able to offer this viewpoint and what are the alternatives (if any). That would have changed my decision possibly. Note that these tours are not cheap at this time of the year and its not a great feeling when you feel like you have been misled into booking something which you otherwise would not have. Further the company also mentioned that they offered an alternative stop to take a pictuer of Eilean Donan castle lit up as an alternative stop. This is bizarre as there was no such stop to take photos of the castle post sunset! There was a stop on the outbound leg from Inverness but not in the inbound leg. The coach GPS tracker could well show that that the bus passed the castle on its way back but does it mention the time stopped at the location? I guess not! So overall quite disturbed with the way the company has been handling the issue. I did request a partial refund as I did not get the full value for my money but I'm not sure that will happen. Disappointed. Lastly, and this is not a negative review about the driver but we just did not have a good time with the stories being all too personal and less about Scotland which is what we were interested in. Some people just have a flair for storytelling and this was not the case here. I give him full points for trying and putting in the effort. Overall, read and double check everything carefully and ask questions before booking so you get the full value for money.Written December 30, 2024

Amazing trip guided by Rye!
Rye was an amazing guide, very knowledgeable, fun, really good at story telling and very funny! He managed to fill the gaps between the stops with interesting stories, historical facts and jokes! He also played some really nice Scottish music during the tour. Hope you get the opportunity to get a tour with him!!!
The tour had many stops, most of them are short ones for photo shooting. Our trip was made up by stops for castles, astonishing snowy views (depends on the month you travel), a kirk - small church and a stop to see Highland cattles (they are really cute!).
As I said I really enjoyed the tour. It was the best day during my 4 day visit in Edinburgh and I am 100% recommending it! Cheers!

My friend and I experienced the most amazing day trip from Edinburgh during our much anticipated trip in November. I'm writing this review now, more than six months later as it was such a beautiful day that my mind still often dwells on it.
If you want to get a glimpse of the outstanding wilderness of the Highlands than the West Highlands and Castle day trip is the absolute best choice: you will embark on a great journey through time and space, with the visit of the a few castle (one is the infamous Leoch castle for all the Outlander fans out there!) and the lovely villages of Luss, Inverarey and Loch Lomond!
We were super lucky to experience it with Eric as a guide who was just the perfect company, playing Scottish music all along and delighting us with the most interesting stories and legends about this magical land and people. Worth every penny!!

The meeting point is well located, tour bus was confortable and better as only 8 people were in our group which gives you much space to unwind. The tour covers the highlands, castles and lakes, the driver and tour guide Mr. Patrick, was a well experienced driver and a knowledgeable about the history, the surroundings and country. He made sure that we get a photo clicked with the highland cows, saddly we didnt get to click a photo in the snow. Overall the tour was great to see the highlands.

Me and my brother did the West Highland Castles, Mountains and Lochs tour today and what a fantastic day it was! Our driver and guide, Andrew T couldn't have been more helpful and knowledgeable. We were treated to a fantastic mix of historical facts, myths and legends, personal expiriences in the engaging and humorous commentary as we passed the beautiful landscape. Our only regret is that we will not have the time to do another Timberbush tour during our trip to Edinburgh, but will recommend it to friends and family visiting.

This tour did NOT disappoint! Our guide, Martin, met us dressed as a proper Scotsman. He thoroughly described Scotland’s history as we moved about the different locations. He asked several times if we were comfortable. The van is very comfortable. The temperature was just right, as was the lighting. The roads can be a little bumpy and windy, so if you get car sick easily, sit up front so you can look out of the front window. You should be fine. The best moment for my group was finding some Highland cows to take pictures with. Martin assured me he would stop if he found some and he did! He even jumped out to take our pictures. After a long day of touring, the ride back was very nice. Everyone fell asleep but Martin softly spoke through the microphone in case anyone was awake. He was beyond knowledgeable and professional. Thanks for the laughs and making one of my Scottish wishes come true, Martin! When I come back, I will be sure to take another tour with this company. I hope Martin is my tour guide again!

This was a great trip! It is a lot of time on the bus, but our driver, Martin, did an excellent job of breaking the trip up and keeping things entertaining while we were on the bus. It is a very scenic trip and in many ways you are paying to see more of the country and take pictures, but Martin made it feel like we were learning a lot about Scotland, the history, the language, the geology and geography, as well as the culture too. I love that he laughed at all of his own jokes. My only complaint was about booking tickets to Inverary castle. The company has you book ahead of time through their website, but the only entry time option you are given is 3:30, which is clearly too late for the tour. Apparently, that is what they put on all of their tickets, and it doesn't matter, but it gave me some anxiety that I had purchased tickets and wouldn't be able to use them. Otherwise, everything was top notch. I would highly recommend this trip, especially with Martin.

Went on this tour December 29th. Andrew was our driver and guide and he was awesome. Great knowledge and kept things fun and engaging in the bus and lots of insight. Also great side conversation at stops while getting everyone back on the bus. Bus was comfortable and clean. Saw everything and more especially unexpectedly got a quick stop for a couple highland coos. The pick up and meeting place was easy to find and all staff very friendly and helpful to get everyone sorted out to where they were going. Tours are tough in winter with such an early sunset and if at all possible even a 30 minute earlier start might help but that also may not line up with opening times at other stops. All in all a great day we saw so much great guide in Andrew. As we were coming the family all agreed we should have done another tour while there and on our next trip will do that and look at multi day trip this day trip was so good.

This was my second trip in two days with Timberbush Tours, and yet again this experience was utterly wonderful. Stuart was our guide and he was brilliantly knowledgable to the history of the sites we visited, as well as very entertaining! The day was paced out really nicely so it didn’t feel like a rush going from place to place, and the locations were exquisite. A highlight was meeting the highland cows (hairy coos!) and to be honest, the whole day was actually a highlight of beautiful views, great company and an extremely impressive and helpful guide. I cannot recommend this company enough to anyone looking to explore Scotland and see some of the most fantastic sites in Scotland!

Everything about this tour was perfect. From the stunning views to our awesome driver, Donald, this trip was nothing but amazing.
The views were amazing, all the castles and lochs and little towns were definitely worth this trip. But, to be honest, what really made this trip special was our driver and guide. (he's basically a Highland hype master.) His passion for the place was very contagious. He made sure we had a great time, always ready to cater to our requests and answer any questions. Now, I usually don' have the attention span for listening to long stories about history and such, but Donald's tales? They were something else. He told them with so much heart that I was genuinely hooked. I actually learned a ton without even realizing it. The group we travelled with was also very small so there's a lot of potential to form new connections and friendships on the way.
If you want to experience Scotland with a passionate guide and get lost in the beauty of it all, this trip is a must-do. You won't regret it!

Stuart was fantastic! He gave us a perfect blend of information, jokes, and exploration. He is knowledgeable about history, Clan politics, geology, flora and fauna, sports, and language. He skillfully alternated narration, Scottish folk music, and modern Scottish music with sights and photo opportunities. It was the best way to get a taste of the Highlands in a single day!

1) I am confused by the web-site for West Highland Lochs, Mountains & Castles from Edinburgh one day tour operated by Timberbush Tours.
The Overview states that the tour includes visit to Doune Castle in Stirlingshire, Loch Awe, and Kilchurn Castle. But the Itinerary states that the tour includes visit to Stirling Castle & Inveraray Castle. Which castles will actually be visited ?
2) I know Inveraray Castle is closed in late Nov. Will the coach still stop in front of it for us to take a photo?
3) Are there only 3 stops (as shown in the Itinerary) in the long 10 hours trip ?
4) If there is not a toilet on the coach, how frequent will the coach stop for toilets ?
5) How many people will there be in this tour ?
6) Is it likely that ice will be formed on roads in this trip in late November ?

Google list it's address as 521-523 Lawnmarket, Edinburgh EH1 2PE but in fact it is located on the Royal Mile, just in front of the HUB which is a very interesting gothic style buiding previously used as a church (now a multifunctional building home of the Edinburg International Festival). Both are a few hundred meter to the east of the Edinburg Castle on the Royal Mile.

My wife and I plan to backpack the West Highland Way. It says this tour will visit Loch Lomond. Where exactly do you go and could we leave the tour at this point and backpack the trail from there? We would need to bring our backpacking bags, and i'm not sure if that would be ok either.
