- sennas20240 contributionsObanToday we had a tour booked to Oban, one word; Fantastic! Our guide Hugh was amazing! Very passionate about the things he told us and even stopped somewhere where i could see some cow’s! The tour itself was also very beautiful. We saw some loch’s, little towns and a few castles along the way. Oban itself was fantastic as-well. Would really recommend this tour. Thank you so much Hugh and Highland experience. - Madison M0 contributionsGreat way to see the highlandsThis tour is a great way to see the Scottish highlands without doing a road trip yourself. My tour guide was Jamie and he was great at telling stories of Scottish history and folklore to entertain you on the drive and we took many stops not on the itinerary to see the beautiful scenery. As a solo female traveler I also thought this was a great option because you’re with a group of people and have someone who knows the area in case anything were to happen. Wish we had more time to hangout at the beautiful sites rather than spending the larger chunks of time in the small towns but that’s what you get when you do a guided tour rather than going on your own. They do pick up and drops offs in both Glasgow and Edinburgh so this was awesome for me because instead of taking a train to go to the other city I got picked up in Glasgow and dropped off in Edinburgh. Overall I would recommend this to anyone hoping to see some beautiful parts of Scotland on their trip. If you get car sick do be mindful of that but you stop very often at restrooms and it unfortunately cannot be avoided on those roads.Written January 27, 2025
- enywoj0 contributionsSeamless and Lovely Tour of Highlands and Isle of SkyeSuch a nice and lovely 3 day tour of the Highlands and Isle of Skye. We were picked up in Glasgow but there is an option from Edinburgh as well. Note that they will provide train ticket from Edinburgh to Glasgow on the last day as drop off, which were fine wit us as we wanted to spend some time in Edinburgh as well (you keep on coming back to a beautiful city yeah). Graham was our driver and tour guide, he made sure everyone was comfortable and at ease. I hoped at times the coaster was a bit warmer, I was just thinking maybe it’s his way to be awake especially during the long drives. Do not think twice, book this tour if you want a seamless feel of the highlands of Scotland.Written January 25, 2025

- T9593NSbethr0 contributionsOutstanding tour of Historic ScotlandThis was my first visit to Scotland, and with only being in town for two days, I wanted to make the most of it. My companion and I saw the sights in Edinburgh on our first day, but wanted to explore outside a bit more, and this tour provided the best option for me, as I'm a castles and churches tourist. Pick up spot was very convenient, easy to find and centrally located. Alex was our guide, and he was fantastic! You could tell he has a passion for his homeland and it showed - from the main attractions to the little "surprise" stops along the way, this tour was worth every penny! What a great way to see more during a trip, without having to worry about directions and transportation. Plus we got a great history lesson too! We also had a small group (8 people) which made for more room in the coach and a comfortable experience. Altogether, I would definitely recommend Highland Experience Tours to anyone looking to explore Scotland a bit more - they do a wonderful job! Thanks to their team for an extremely enjoyable visit to beautiful Scotland!Written December 28, 2024

Their company alone was worth the driving trip.Written December 21, 2024

Comfort in a small passenger mini van with commentary (& music) from our knowledgeable, funny & engaging driver/guide Steven B. The sites were amazing! Passionate about Scotland, funny and knowledgeable. We saw a LOT in just a few days. We had time to explore on our own and it truly felt like Iain was committed to making sure each guest got what they wanted out of the time. I am generally not a sit on the bus type of person but as an overview of the Highlands, we were very satisfied. Iain also took the time to draw up a small day trip for us near Edinburgh which was fantastic.Written November 28, 2024

Before choosing this agency I think I evaluated them all but this itinerary seemed the most complete to try to see as much as possible in one day. With us there were Chloe as guide and Alex as driver. Right from the start Chloe was very nice, knowledgeable and even though English is not my first language I understood her perfectly. The stages are varied and reasonable time is given to make stops, take photos and stop at the refreshment points. If you have high demands, bring your own food because your tastes may not match what you find in the food outlets but that's how it works when you travel. It fits. The travel hours are many but personally I didn't feel them at all. Probably being a big fan of Outlander (if you don't know it, watch it!!!) made me live the experience 1000% and all those Highland landscapes were simply enchanting. I appreciated that everyone respected their places (which doesn't happen often elsewhere) and Chloe's kindness. I also recommend the Lochness cruise which is not included in the ticket as it is optional. Seeing the whole landscape with the autumn colors from the ferry is inexplicable. We didn't visit Urquart Castle, as initially planned, due to adverse weather conditions so the cruise alone cost £18 instead of £27 for both visits. I personally recommend this experience for its seriousness, organization and reliability.

There are barely any stops, so if you're a photographer or someone who wants to enjoy the fresh air of the highlands, it might not be the best option ♡ I would have loved to stop so many more times to enjoy the landscapes.
That being said :
The guide Steven B(est) was an absolute gem. Very funny, kind, helpful. He has a lot of anecdotes/personal experiences (ex. Camping, skiing, touring, etc.), and a lot of historical and cultural information to share.
He explains stuff very well and, although he has a scottish accent, it's manageable. I understood most of what he said (coming from a non-native english speaker).
If you have questions or if you ask recommandations, he's there for you!
You'll have music in the bus, you'll discover traditional music and scottish/English artists and musics.
As for the tour itself :
The highlands are a must. It is sooo beautiful.
I recommend bringing a raincoat and a sweater because the weather can be changing. We got sun, then rain, and sun, then clouds. It was warm then cold.
On this tour, you can buy food at a gas station on the first stop or from the hotel at the Loch ness lake, but it can be quite expensive (for foreigners) so maybe bring your own lunch.
Don't forget your water ♡
I didn't book the castle visit and cruise.
As my mom would say, always travel as if you were never gonna come back, so even though it's expensive, book it.
But in case you didn't listen to my mom like me, you can spend your time around the Loch ness lake and in the lochness souvenir shop or at the restaurant. Time passes by quickly when the landscapes are this beautiful.♡
Also there are toilet stops, so if I were you, I wouldn't worry about it.
I'm always anxious about that and it was absolutely fine on this tour. ♡

Hi Aiden,
Thank you so much for your thoughtful and detailed review! I’m glad to hear that you had such a positive experience with Steven—he truly is a gem. It’s wonderful to know that his humour, knowledge, and personal stories added so much to your journey, and I’m delighted that you felt supported as a non-native English speaker.
I appreciate your honest feedback about the number of stops. While this tour is designed to cover a lot of ground, I understand your desire for more time to enjoy the landscapes and take photos. Your advice on being prepared for the changing weather is spot on—it’s always good to have a raincoat and sweater handy in the Highlands!
Thank you as well for your practical tips about meals and stops, which will be helpful for future travellers. I’m so glad to hear you still enjoyed the beautiful views of Loch Ness, even without booking the castle visit or cruise.
Your feedback is invaluable, and we hope to welcome you back for another adventure in the future—perhaps one with more stops for those perfect photos!
Kind regards,
Cameron

Dejan and John were the best!!!! Dejan shared great facts and history and both were so fun and funny! I’d definitely book this experience and I would recommend spending the extra $ for the castle and the Loch Ness boat cruise - prices range from $19-$28 pounds for these experiences. Even with the weather being cold/windy and rain on and off it was an amazing day with beautiful views and I would definitely recommend booking this tour! Loved getting to see the highland cows at the end and feeding them. :)

Our guide Audrey and the driver Al did well. No concerns there, and appreciated them on a very long day. She kept it interesting, and that man drives a bus on windy roads better than most who drive small cars on a freeway.
First thing to know, the bus seats are smaller than basic economy on any plane. If you are smaller/shorter than average you’ll be fine. If you’re not, just know this is 13 hours snuggled up with 40+ others. Our knees are bruised.
The stops were rushed, lots of tourist piling in all at once and food options terrible as they are gas stations. If you aren’t hungry for 13 hours you’ll be fine, or just know this in advance and pack food. There were extra stops for pictures or restrooms not on the itinerary, which is great! Again, rushed to get on and off with 40 others in <15 min, but appreciated.
Your opportunity to interact with the highland cows is literally at a gas station lol. During winter months with shorter days several hours will be in the dark.
Overall just know these few things. The bright side was we learned a few things and we didn’t need to drive ourselves.

Hi there,
Thank you for sharing your valuable feedback with us for our Loch Ness, Glen Coe & The Highlands Tour. We appreciate your detailed comments about your time on tour and they will help us continue the improve the customer experience for future passengers!
We can understand your hesitations at some of the stops on tour. We make comfort breaks in the interest of every passenger's safety and in the remote highlands, there are not many places that are equipped to handle large groups. Our tour is designed to balance these necessary comfort stops with spectacular sightseeing stops where you have time to explore your surroundings and immerse yourself in nature. Taste Perthshire, your first stop of the day, is a delightful rest area where you can purchase locally sourced food, buy tasteful souvenirs, and meet the adorable Highland cows!
We are so sorry to hear that you did not find the comfort on the bus to your standard, and we are grateful for the feedback.
Thank you again for taking the time to leave a review and we do hope you will give us another chance to give you a 5* experience that we aim to provide to every passenger!
Kind regards,
Sofia

While the stops of the tour were cool because we were able to see some of the smaller and more local parts of the highlands, I was ultimately disappointed. Stops were quick and without guidance, and our tour guides often stayed with each other and away from the group while outside the bus. I was expecting fun facts and information about the fairie pools and Portree while we were there, but the guides stayed on the bus/had their own private table for lunch. When the guides were present, they spoke about their families and friends rather than the landscape and history of Scotland and the Highlands around me, which I wanted as a tourist. When we went to Portree for lunch, we were unaware of how quick our stop was there, and while our guides had reservations at a restaurant, many of us didn't and just had to get chips at the grocery. We couldn't even make a reservation if we wanted because we got the itinerary the day of on the bus, and it changed multiple times on the guide's whim. Other than the ease of traveling to these relatively isolated places by bus, I would not recommend

Hi there,
We are very sorry to read you did not have a 5* experience with us, which we hope everyone who travels with us will experience. We're very surprised to read your comments, as, as you can see we regularly get fantastic feedback about our driver-guides.
Each of our driver-guides have their own unique way of showing our passengers the highlands, which is why we don't use detailed itineraries.
We hope you enjoyed your time in Scotland.

Overall, this was a good day, considering everything that was packed into it. If you are short on time in Edinburgh, and wish to explore the highlands, that this would be a good choice. However, if you think you’re going on a small group tour as advertised, it was a big bus tour. I may have missed read it, but it was the big bus. That means your stops are rushed as you’re loading and unloading so many people. But again, if you’re short on time, this is a good choice. There is a lot of driving between stops and I mean a lot of driving. Music would’ve been nice instead of the chatter of those surrounding. There was some commentary by our driver/guide Joe. However, his personal commentary on his lack of funds and the government could’ve been left out. The morning stop is in a quaint town that allows for a brief stroll and a quick, bakery, snack and coffee. Then there is a 10 minute stop for pics in the national park, a few hours later, you get to the loch where there’s about 30 minutes to hit the hotel for a drink or snacks before you board the boat to travel down the Loch to the castle ruins where you get to stroll. As it says in the directions for the tour you do need cash to pay the driver the extra 27 pounds per person to do the boat tour in castle wondering otherwise you’re stuck at this hotel and there’s really nothing to do there. In reality, the tour company should just charge the extra money and include the boat and castle in the price. So in booking the trip, just plan on the extra money to get the most out of your day. The ride back to Edinburgh goes to the Highlands with some beautiful views, just expect the rain as that is normal and part of the beauty. There was only one stop for photography on the way back in the Highlands, as there are not many places to pull off. Again, however, you are rushed because you were on a big bus. One thing to note is that as our driver told us many times, the government regulates their breaks in amount of driving time, so that if the group continues to be late, the driver is then force to either speed or shorten/eliminate stops in order to meet the time constraints.
All and all it was a good day with beautiful vistas. Next time, I will read the descriptions more carefully, and ensure that I am on a small bus.

Hi there,
Thank you for your feedback. I have passed this information on to our Transport Team who will investigate further and talk to the driver-guide of the issues you've mentioned.
We do not advertise the 1-day Loch Ness, Glen Coe, and Highlands Tour is on a small bus. We only use our smaller buses for the multi-day tours.
We're glad you enjoyed the tour!

On my recent trip to Scotland, my local friends recommended this tour. I was very suspicious that a 14 hour bus ride could be enjoyable, but I am happy to say that I was completely wrong. Our tour guide, Hugh, was great! He made the time fly with his knowledge of folklore, history and his amazing piping skills (he played at the King's coronation, so he's got serious skills). I would highly recommend adding on the optional cruise of Loch Ness with the stop at Urquhart castle, as it's amazingly beautiful, although sadly I did not find Nessie. Glencoe and the surrounding areas are spectacular. If you have a short time in Scotland, this tour is definitely the best way to see and learn about the highlands and Scottish history.

Amazing day trip!!! Couldn’t fault the tour rep Terry and the driver, which I’m afraid I cannot remember his name, sorry! Really genuine people showing interest and pride in showcasing the beautiful Scotland. Superb scenic photo opportunities on the way, paired with entertaining albeit cheesy jokes, stories and history lessons. Coach was modern- comfy seats, and aircon/heating. My favourite stop was at Loch Ness, I did the combined boat trip and castle, was fab! Can easily spend an hour taking in the sights and scenery. Would be good if they advertised/ advertised more clearly how much additional costs would be. Bus pick up and drop off was central- and on time, so didn’t have to redeem themselves with promised karaoke haha! Really would recommend this trip especially if you are tight on time as you pack a lot in to just one day! I went in August solo, and was met by friendly likeminded travellers of all age ranges from all parts of the world. Would really really recommend!!! Only suggestion is that perhaps the rest breaks for toilet breaks and food could be at more interesting spots instead of service stations?? However I do understand the practicality. My only critique! 😊

Hi Ella,
Thank your for your lovely review of our Loch Ness, Glen Coe & The Highlands Tour.
We are delighted to hear how much you enjoyed your day with guides and we appreciate your kind comments about their storytelling and jokes.
It's great you found the coach to be comfortable and suitable to your standards.
We love the stop at Urquhart Castle and can agree that it is the highlight of the day! Thank you for your constructive feedback regarding the optional extra price- we want to ensure that every passenger is aware of extra fees!
Our drivers make comfort stops every 2 hours in the interest of everyone's safety and to ensure a pleasant journey. We try to find a balance between more scenic sightseeing stops and comfort stops and we will certainly take your feedback into consideration as we work to improve our tours.
Thank you again for your detailed review and we hope to welcome you on another tour one day!
Kind regards,
Sofia

We took the Highlands, Glen Coe and Lochness day trip tour. Dayan and John felt like the ultimate duo when it came to tour guidance. Dayan with his immense knowledge of Scotland and humour coupled with John’s very efficient driving made for a very comfortable and entertaining tour. I would recommend the trip for anyone that can dedicate a whole day to seeing some of Scotland’s most beautiful sceneries. Overall 10/10 trip. Thank you Dayan and John.

We did the 12 hour Highlands/ Loch Ness tour. On the plus side, Chris was an informative guide and an excellent driver. Everythongbran on time. Biggest minus was that the bus windows were Grey and dirty. So much so that it affected the viewing. When we got to our first bathroom stop I asked Chris if he had a squeegee to clean the windows. He said he would look but apparently the bus didn't carry one. I asked if we were stopping in a gas station so the windows could be washed. We weren't. He did say it wouldn't matter because of the mist and road spray etc and it wouldn't last. But it turned out he was wrong. One passenger went to the outside of his window at the first stop and opened his large portable water bottle and threw his water at his window so he and his girlfriend could see. I then ran into the stop and got in the long line so I could buy 3 plastic bottles of water and a free cup and pick up paper towels so I could do the same for me and my daughters window
WHAT AN IMPROVEMENT! I couldn't reach high enough to use yhe towels on much of the window, but just tossing the water up and letting it rinse down was a huge help for clarity and sightseeing on that great day. Had purchased enough water to even do the window in front of us for better viewing and people on the other side of the bus moved to our side so they could see!
Later at second stop, I saw another couple washbtheir window. For a high rated touring bus company it is not acceptable that the passengers are out cleaning your windows. Felt bad for the others that went through the whole day w grimey windows. I did byw look at other busses at Loch NESS and their windows weren't dirty so I don't think road spray was the issue.
I also thought the stops for bio breaks were a bit tourist trap like. I am guessing it is not possible, but stopping at a small Highland village would be better than the roadside gift shops, in my opinion.
A good tour, but didn't blow us away as per above....

Hi there,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us, and for highlighting both the positive aspects and areas for improvement.
We’re pleased to hear that Chris was an informative guide and that you appreciated his driving. We also value your efforts in improving the visibility of the windows for a better sightseeing experience.
We sincerely apologise for the condition of the bus windows during your tour. Clean windows are essential for a pleasant experience, and we will be addressing this issue with our team to ensure that all vehicles are properly maintained going forward. Your feedback about passengers having to clean the windows themselves is important to us, and we will take it into account to prevent such issues in the future.
Regarding the stops, we understand your concerns about the bathroom breaks and gift shops. We strive to balance convenience with offering our guests meaningful experiences, but we will certainly consider your suggestion of stopping at smaller Highland villages for future tours.
Once again, thank you for your valuable feedback. We hope you enjoyed the rest of the tour despite these challenges, and we would love to welcome you back on one of our future tours with an improved experience.
Kind regards,
Helen

Hi! I have a 2 years old and I wonder if it’s possible that he takes de trip? 🥹

I think children under the age is not allowed unfortunately and as amazing as the tour is it could very exhausting not only for the baby, but for yourself as well because it is a 13hrs tour and sometimes the weather can be windy and rainy.

I have to catch the train at 8:30pm. What is the return time to Edinburgh?
Written February 16, 2024
We got back to Edinburgh at about 8:05 ish. I think you’d be pushing it to get a train at 8:30, Save yourself worrying all day about what time you’ll get back by doing this trip when you have no restrictions 🤷🏼♀️

Hi there, is there a toilet in the bus? What about traveling in january are we gonna be able to see Glen Coe during the day?
Written January 11, 2024
I forget the bus line tour up to Loch Ness and Glencoe, but no toilet but made enough stops flr all ages. They have been doing this route/tour for years.

Hi, I'd like to do this trip in November, but I see that Glencoe is one of the last stops. Because of limited daylight in autumn, are the valley and mountains even visible by the time we'd get there?
Written September 5, 2023
And my tour guide didn’t follow a strict itinerary due to changes in road conditions, so we were at Glencoe in the mid-afternoon and stayed for a few hours and lunch!

The tour run by Highland Experience Tours would likely be miserable for you and your baby. The bathroom breaks are very limited and when we did stop for breaks, we had to wait in line for the bathroom each time. Each stop was rushed. There was almost no time to enjoy anything. I can't imagine wrangling a baby in addition to rushing through everything. At one point, we had to run back to the bus because the food stop was a McDonald's and we had to first wait in line to get food (they were short staffed) and then wait for the bathroom (few stalls). We ran back with our food and most people ate on the bus. I'd recommend looking at a small group tour. Our particular driver on this very large tour was devoid of empathy, so don't expect any understanding from the tour guide for special needs of any kind.
