About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Kristin H0 contributionsBest Day of our Scotland VisitOur guide, Jan, was exceptional! The tour bus/van seats about 12-16 which was perfect size to be able to get into places easily. Jan is a great story teller and was able to weave in stories that were relevant to our stops, and he had an excellent playlist that took the trip to the next level. We had a great day visiting castles, lochs and the western highlands. We would highly recommend this tour.Written October 4, 2024
- JanetE0600 contributionsYou are on remote islands so keep that in mind...I think the tour guides/drivers must either make or break the trip. Our's was really good. His name was Christopher and he was in control and master of everything. Besides being cheerful and friendly he was a good driver, organized, responsible and chock full of Scottish stories, history, politics, geology and music, you name the subject he could talk about it in an informative and interesting way. The only criticism I have is that the tour didn't allow enough time to explore the little towns, eg. Kirkwall. I would gladly have skipped a couple of the cliff viewing stops to spend a little more time in the towns. I think Rabbie's should rearrange their tour schedule a little to make room for this. Don't expect much from the B&B and hotel accommodations. They were clean and basic and except for one they were all teeny-tiny and had queen size beds. You are on remote islands so keep that in mind.Written October 4, 2024
- Sassenach10140 contributionsExceptional Tour Led by a Wonderful Guide! On behalf of my husband Doug and I, Thank You for a wonderful Outlander Tour. I cannot compliment our guide/driver Alastair enough! He was a stellar guide and offered so much historical perspective that helped bring the Outlander moments and the Rising to life. When we ran into traffic en route to Inverness, he handled it with such grace—and the experience truly bonded our group! He diverted us for a bit and our group settled in to enjoy a Pint (or two) in Blair Athol—a town we might never have seen—while we awaited the accident to clear. There was so much laughter and fun on our bus. Alastair brought each venue to life—sharing history and Outlander tie-ins. And our two accommodations were lovely! I cannot say enough about the trip … I have been looking forward to this adventure with Rabbie’s since 2018. It was a stirring and meaningful way for my husband and I to see Scotland and to celebrate our 30th Anniversary. And the structure of the Tour and the way Alastair brought each moment to life was a true joy.Written October 4, 2024
- olafurst0 contributionsGreat tour around the Scottish whisky country.Mia was our guide in this tour and she was fantastic. She is a very good story teller and all the driving went by quickly. The Glengoyne tour was great, very informative and the whisky tasting was good. The Deanston tour was shorter, but quite good.Written October 4, 2024
- mariafR7305IJ0 contributionsA wonderful dayEvery time I come back to Scotland I take the time to go on tours to see the beautiful areas outside the cities. That's why the Loch Lomond, Kelpies and Stirling Castle tour was already my sixth with Rabbies. Alex was a great tour guide and told us lots of interesting facts about Scotland and Loch Lomond. Like many Rabbies tour guides, he also has a great taste in Scottish music. The Kelpies are very impressive and the area around Loch Lomond is so beautiful. I have to admit that I think Sterling Castle is a lot more interesting than the one in Edinburgh. The tour, Alex and the group were great. I highly recommend going on tours. It's much better than hiring a car and you always meet interesting people.Written October 3, 2024

Didn’t tell us there’s several buses on the same day and randomly allocated. Tried to fix it but was told there was nothing they could do couldn’t even ask someone to switch buses. We had single passengers on seperate buses. The bus broke down immediately too.Written September 30, 2024

- gs8180 contributionsDay well spent. We went on this tour as part of our honeymoon and Jim S. was really so so great. He was full of fun facts and banter and had all these little tid bits to share with us. He kept everyone together without making us feel rushed. He had tons of recommendations for us along the way and even when we returned to Edinburgh. The tour itself was really lovely. If you're a roman history fan and want to spend a day learning and looking at beautiful countryside, we recommend it! Thanks Jim!Written September 30, 2024
- gemmabK3917KJ0 contributionsFantastic experience - well organised & fabulous guideIt’s taken a while to get round to writing this since we visited Edinburgh in April, but I’m now keeping my promise! We took the West Highlands, Lochs and Castles 1 day tour from Edinburgh. It was a last minute booking as we had originally planned a trip on the Jacobite Steam Train but that had been cancelled. We wanted to see some highlights of the highlands, and we were certainly given that. Stephen was our guide for the day - he was fantastic from start to finish. He provided an interesting and sometimes amusing account of the local history and ensured that everyone on the tour had their needs met. We were travelling as a group of 4, with one child with accessibility needs. Stephen was patient, accommodating and helpful, ensuring that our day trip was seamless. We loved the visit to Loch Lomond and Stephan’s determination to ensure that we saw some Hairy Coos, made the day extra special. The Scottish highlands are every bit as beautiful as we imagined them to be and more and from the snapshot we saw, we know that we will return to see more in the future. Rabbies are an excellent tour company to book with and our experience with Stephen as our tour guide was faultless. A huge thank you for making the day so special and personalised. We haven’t and won’t forget it. From Elena and her merry people!Written September 30, 2024
- rachelaH531JI0 contributionsMust-see for those visiting EdinburghI was absolutely blown away by this tour. I am not usually one to write reviews or book guided tours, but I figured it would be the best choice to see Isle of Skye and the Highlands without renting a car (and figure out how to drive on the other side of the road). Our guide, Kylie, was AMAZING! She gave us such entertaining stories about where we were and even synced up a playlist for added ambiance. She listened to what the entire group wanted and really delivered an excellent tour of the isle. I will definitely be recommending Rabbie’s to folks I know and will be booking a future tour the next time I’m in one of their servicing countries.Written September 30, 2024

This was nothing short of the trip of a lifetime. Six days of exploring the spectacular Outer Hebrides and the Isle of Skye. It’s a lot to pack in — and weather in Scotland is always changing — but, we saw everything from secluded pristine beaches to ancient ruins and vista that take your breath away. The accommodations were charming — you’re not here for a 5 star hotel experience. These are local inns with plenty of color. Our tour guide Donald was amazing — from his storytelling and music to constantly adapting our itinerary to make the most of the weather. I can’t wait to come back to Scotland and see more. And I’d certainly book with Rabbies again!

My experience was so far removed from KutuBuku's that Im not sure where to begin. Donald was also our guide. He arrived on time with the van signed as the Outer Hebrides/Isle of Skye tour. We were a varied group - 6 Canadians, 4 Americans, 2 South Africans and 2 Malaysians. We all got along well with one another and would help each other when needed.
Donald was very knowledgeable and provided us with a detailed history of all of the areas/sites that we visited. He ensured that there were many scenic stops for short walks and pictures; not just so he could "smoke some cigarettes". I never saw Donald take any pictures. He answered most of our questions, and we asked many. The music he played was relevant to our locations - e.g., a couple of songs in Gaelic when we were in the Outer Hebrides, where Gaelic is still spoken; The Bonny Banks of Loch Lomond when we were nearby; a couple of songs by a group from the Isle of Skye named Runrig.
He did get his knickers in a knot about a number of dirvers, but in his defense, one day he had to brake heavily to avoid an accident because of motorcycles passing dangerously, A couple of other times, drivers (probably tourists) did not know the etiquette for a road that has one lane and a passing point, or did not pull over far enough to allow us to pass safely. The tour drivers are responsible for the safety of their passengers so I did not find this a big issue.
We booked through Royal Irish Tours and they arranged our accommodations for us.
I loved this tour - taking in the wide variety of landscapes, learning the history, travelling by ferry, hearing announcements and seeing signs in Gaelic. I would highly recommend it.

Experience and professionalism made all the differnce.
Rabbies had to postpone our tour twice because of covid, it was a trip to Lewis, Harris and Skye, planned originally with my husband for September 2020. Eventually we had to cancel with a full refund because of bereavement. A few months later with some trepidation I wanted to undertake the trip and rebooked this time with my mother and sister in law. Chris our driver / tour guide was fantastic. His welcome and easy manner and very professional training made us all feel relaxed. It was wonderful trip. Chris was friendly, knowledgeable, humorous and exremely good at guaging how our group of ten would get the most from these fabulous islands.
Brexit and covid have changed staffing levels in guest houses and hotels, things are not quite "back to normal" yet but I would definitely reccommend taking the trip, plan ahead with meals and be prepared to be paitient with Scotland's very friendly hospitality staff.

I had taken a 1 day tour with Rabbies previously to Hadrian’s wall from Edinburgh and we enjoyed ourselves. We wanted to see more of Scotland without having to worry about driving ourselves around and opted for the 6 day tour. This tour was AMAZING.
Our driver/guide was Chris and he was fantastic. He was friendly and funny and knew so much of the history of the areas we were in. We had plenty of stops to get out and see things and stretch our legs and the stops were more than long enough. Chris arranged for us to meet a Harris tweed weaver just outside Luskentyre beach which was a highlight of the trip. I was also excited to see the fairy Glen and when we some some highland cows on the side of the road, Chris of course pulled over so we could get some photo ops!
I will recommend that if you are doing this tour any time in the near future, you pre book any dinner accommodations, especially in Portree.
Already looking forward to our next visit and our next trip with Rabbies!

Our Rabbies-Tour to the Outer Hebrides and the Isle of Skye in September 2022 was amazing, not least due to our tour guide and driver Catty, whose sunny character and broad knowledge about the region made the tour a to an exceptional experience. Being a great storyteller and a perfect driver, she did not only share her knowledge, but also her attachment to the Highlands and the Hebrides with us. Needless to say, that everything was organised perfectly well. Highly recommended!

I just completed a 10 Day tour with Rabbies, which was a combination of two of their tours. The tour was the 10 Orkney and Outer Hebrides. Being two different tours, I had two guides and switched buses in between. First, I won the tour guide lottery with Billy for part 1 and Keith for part 2. They both shared so much information and knowledge of Scotland, played great music, and went out of their way to offer unique experiences. I think everyone had a blast!! Switching tours in between was a breeze and thanks to my wonderful tour guides, I was able to join in another Rabbies tour on my "free" day in between. This part of Scotland was beyond my expectations and so beautiful. I cannot wait to go back and hope to do more Rabbie's tours in the future.

Very well organised tour from the moment we met up at the bus station. There were guides to assist us. We had Jim as our driver and 12 in our group. Once he got the air conditioner sorted for the van it was more comfortable. We did have a bit of rain and wind and it was very cold but this is to be expected in spring in Scotland. Jim was a wealth of information with yarns and stories. Good sense of humour. We saw heaps and packed a lot into each day. We opted for Rabbies to book our accom and all were great except don’t stay at the Archway Inn in Ullapool on a Tuesday night as loud music till 11pm!.

Great value and great fun. Yes it's a long trip roughly 1000 miles, including ferry crossings, in 6 days, but you get to see and do so much. Despite mixed weather it was very enjoyable and I'm definitely considering going on another tour next year and have recommended Rabbies to several friends. All the accommodation was excellent too.
I was a bit apprehensive being a solo traveller and the only Brit, but I needn't have worried. A lovely bunch of people and a very witty and knowledgeable driver, Jim, who always looked out for us and looked after us.
Several people on the trip had been on Rabbies tours previously, so that was a testament in itself that they had come back for more.
Highly recommended.

Fantastic trip to see the beautiful scenery of Skye and Lewis & Harris. Our brilliant tour guide, Doug, was very knowledgeable and provided great entertainment! The bus was comfortable and plenty of stops were built into the trip. Doug was able to give some great recommendations for food throughout our stay. Thoroughly recommend a trip with Rabbies!

Does the trip go to the Fairy Pools on the Isle of Skye?

No it doesn't. However you could get it arranged if the driver and the other members of the crew agreed with it. We made a detour because all of us agreed with it.

Can you see the Old Man of Storr on this tour? How close do you get?

Depends on the weather it closed in as we arrived. Michael said 30 % chance on average.

What about meals. Do you pay for your own meals, is there B&B? What is included in the price for food?
Written January 22, 2019
Apologies for the delay in replying, My partner and I, both classed as Seniors (over 60) wow how old is that paid a reduced rate of around ÂŁ800 for the tour. All food and accommodation costs come out of your own pocket, All in we probably paid around ÂŁ1500 for the tour. As much as we loved the experience we would probably self drive next time.

Hello,
I was just wondering what days this tour departs? Are there any distillery stops on this tour? Thank you.
Written July 4, 2018
Just check Rabbies website for your departures and details. They mostly depart from Edinburgh although there are some from Glasgow too.
We did tour the new distillery on Lewis - great tour, this distillery isn't large but interesting to see and very personable. Good whiskey too! Rabbies has one tour from Edinburgh dedicated to distilleries only. Check out their website. Small groups and well informed guides/drivers.
