We spent a couple of hours at the Museum. Fascinating stories and exhibits. The audio tour is excellent. All of the Volunteers and Staff were so proud of the regiment and many had a personal connection with The Gordon Highlanders. Their enthusiasm was infectious and we were made to feel most welcome. We noticed that there was a treasure hunt to keep the children amused, nice touch. Also don't miss the tour of the Trenches ... nothing scary but it gives an idea of what Trench warfare was like. The Bistro servicing refreshments was also excellent, good food at reasonable prices. There is a free car park on site, however if full, there is parking on the street outside, as the Museum is in a Residential area.

We are so glad to recently re-open and be able to welcome visitors to our clean and safe Museum. Our enthusiasm as you say is infectious and if we were all on Mastermind our specialist subject would definitely be 200 years of Gordon Highlanders Regimental History! I 'm glad you noticed that we are a very family friendly Museum too. Thank you for your kind comments and passing on your valued feedback.

I've been meaning to visit the Gordon Highlanders museum for ages. Booked my ticket online which was an easy process. I opted for the audio tour. The museum has a very mordern contemporary look about. The collection itself is very well displayed in well light displays.
All the staff and volunteers are so helpful and have an amazing knowledge of the display. There is a brilliantly WW1 trench replica outside, like everything else in the museum is done to a high standard. I spent about 2 1/2 hours there. The cafe looked really nice but I'm a fat lad trying to resist the temptations of the lovely cakes on display. If your in the area its most definitely worth a visit.

The museum did not leave me disappointed!

My Granda who fought in the war had donated a few items to the museum a few years back and with never being before myself to see any of the "treasure" and his recent passing, we thought this would be the ideal reason to go!

There was very friendly staff and so much to see! All the different rooms and information of each item was incredible. It was very very informative and was great to see so much items still kept in such good quality for us to see so many years later!

The silver room was amazing - i'm a bit of magpie and loved looking at it all!

There's even a trench made outside for you to go out and get a "close" feel to what it used to be like and shows the living conditions.
As it was man made its not completely the same but gives you the same idea.

I will definitely go back!

Spent an afternoon at the museum and it was a great tour through the history of the Gordon Highlanders, which is extensive.

The museum is well laid out, the staff are friendly and the audio guide is a great addition. Be sure not to miss the trench which is outside, just down the hill.

After the tour we had a coffee and a scone from the cafe, sitting outside in the lovely gardens.

Well wort a visit!

Just back from a visit and fantastic tour around the Gordon Highlanders Museum.
Guides were excellent and informative
Exhibitions were all very interesting. Especially the silver room.

There is no doubt that what former Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill once said still rings true, the Gordon Highlanders were the finest regiment in the world and the staff and museum do them justice.

I visited today with my partner and 13 year old son. We paid our admission and first went to the cafe for a drink before starting the museum. The cafe was quite big and had no problem finding a seat and being served.

Our guide was called Norman. He first showed us to a little room where we watched a film for about 18 minutes. On the way down the corridor, he referred to pictures and tapestries on the wall, telling us information about them that we wouldn’t have known had we just looked at them ourselves.

The film was well put together and very informative. After the film, we went into the larger room in the museum. This has a large collection of medals and other artefacts. My son did a quiz on the way round and there were some dressing up clothes at the end, which even my 13 year old had a go at! On our way round, Norman kept popping by to see if we were ok and to point out more interesting things.

When we had finished in there, Norman took us outside to the new trench. I found this fascinating as it has been designed to look and feel like a real trench, minus the mud! Again, Norman was very knowledgeable and his anecdotes and stories were so very interesting.

After the trench, we went back to the main building and looked at the National Service exhibition, dining room, silver room and the armouries. All very interesting and again, Norman’s personal stories and knowledge about it all was wonderful to listen to.

In total we spent about 3 hours in the museum and the time just flew. Norman made this a very special experience. As I said to my son, it was so nice to listen to his personal stories and anecdotes as that is history from a real life source. He was not only knowledgable but made jokes and imparted his knowledge and stories in such a way that I could listen to him all day.

Thank you Norman and the other guides we met along the way too!

Thank you very much for such a lovely review. We will make sure Norman gets the feedback especially as he seems to have made your day an experience. We are always trying to make things of interest for all ages and it was great to hear that your son was also engaged with the museum and the trench. Once again thanks for the wonderful feedback

My in laws visited from St Louis, Missouri with us in November 2019 to find out more about my mother in-law's grandfather who fought for the Gordon Highlanders in the First World War.

We were afforded a bespoke, private tour by Sandy who simply could not have been more attentive, knowledgeable and polite.

Lovely little lunch in the tea room afterwards to round of a wonderful visit.
We all learned so much and it made my mother in-law's entire trip that she could finally learn more about her ancestry.

Sandy is a superb guide with a tremendous knowledge of The Regiment and a great asset to the museum. It's an honour and a pleasure to be able share history and fill in blanks in any family history. The Duchess Jean Tea Room is always a good place to round off your visit and please thank your in laws for their interest.

I felt so proud to take my wife to the Museum of the regiment that I was proud to serve in. This is a must see if you are visiting Aberdeen. It is well set up and it was an absolute pleasure for me to see the pride in the volunteers who run the Museum.
