Gleann was an amazing tour guide of the Bogside Murals. He was so knowledgeable and told us about the events leading up to and of Bloody Sunday in an engaging way, and encouraged us to ask him questions that we had as we went along. It was so touching how he spoke of his late father and his own experiences of growing up in Derry. I really felt that we learnt so much and it set the scene perfectly for us to spend some time in the Free Derry Museum. Thank goodness for people like Gleann who so candidly talk about the history of Northern Ireland and give an insight of how we can move forward.

Glad to hear you enjoyed your tour and the history of Derry. Doing the tour and then the Museum of Free Derry is a good way to experience the hisrory. I always encourage questions on the tour as the questions open different angles of the history and discussion.

The Bogside and Bloody Sunday walking tour of Derry was one of the best tours I and my family have ever been on. Gleann Doherty provided us with fascinating insights based on a deep knowledge of the history of the area and the wider context in a very accessible way. He kept our party of adults and teenagers highly engaged throughout, it was particularly striking to learn how most of the participants in and victims of this story were of similar age to the young people with us on our tour. Gleann also shared us a very personal connection to these tragic events that was deeply moving and places this tour on an entirely different level to any other we have experienced anywhere. It was the highlight of our trip and we haven't stopped talking about it since. If you are in Derry you must do this tour. And if you're not in Derry you should go.

If you are coming to Derry, and want to take a tour, take this one. Our guide Gleann was very informative and highly knowledgeable on the history of his City from its founding in 1603 (and before), right up to the modern day. Taking in the City Walls, and Derry Girls locations, we were then guided around Free Derry, the Murals, and the Bogside area, for a comprehensive and very personal tour of the history that lead to the Civil Rights protests, the 'Troubles', and then the Good Friday Agreement.
Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions, we were unable to visit some of Gleanns Museum, pub and music recommendations on this occasion, but hopefully we will be able to on our next visit.

This tour comes highly recommended if you are planning on visiting Derry. Our tour guide, Gleann, was excellent in explaining the events that took place in the Bogside in 1972 and showing us all the different murals there explaining each event behind them as well. Needless to say it was at times very emotional and highly evocative, especially the day after the tour when we heard the news of John Hume's death.

Go raibh míle maith agat a Ghleann agus slán go fóill.

Excellent private walking tour with Lára

765644073

We booked this tour to enhance our own knowledge of Derry's history, and also to make sure our 3 children (aged 11 - 14) had a better knowledge and insight of how life in the six counties used to be. Lára was an excellent guide, everyone really enjoyed the tour and we all learned so much. Dont miss the opportunity to visit the Free Derry Museum when you're in the area. I can't recommend this tour enough, and look forward to another tour the next time we visit Derry.
The wee bit of unexpected music at the end of the tour made my day!
Thank you again Lára from the Campbell family.

*** please note *** I tried to book here but received a message that there was no availability, I then contacted the company directlty via their own website and filled out an enquiry form (derryguidedtours.com) Gleann contacted me immediately to confirm availability for our preferred date and arranged a suitable time. I would highly recommend contacting Derry Guided Tours directly to arrange tours.

Even though it was a chilly damp morning, Gleann, the tour guide, met us with much warmth, humor and passion as he enlightened us about the history of Derry as we walked about halfway around atop and below the historical city walls. As we entered the Bogside, he brought the events of Bloody Sunday to life as he pointed out all of the areas that the drama of that day occurred. We were deeply touched and impacted by his passionate saga, especially as he lost his own Father during what happened that day. We appreciated his information, as well as answering the multiple questions we had about the economy, politics and religion, as well as sharing personal information about his life was impacted during the Troubles. Can't recommend this tour enough !!!!

Gleann has left a huge impression on us with this poignant tour of the Bogside and murals. We came home and watched old TV footage as well as the film 'Bloody Sunday'. He was an excellent guide, and anyone going to Derry should walk in the footsteps of those who lived and died during the troubles.

A big thank you to the guide, Gleann. We went into the tour completely unbiased and wanting to deepen our knowledge of Bloody Sunday and the murals. What Gleann then showed and told us in the almost 2.5 hours tour was not only interesting. It was exciting, informative and stimulates to think and ask questions.
Thank you very much, Gleann.

Had a walking tour with our guide John, he was absolutely excellent. He was so knowledgable about everything, and no question of ours went unanswered. He spoke about everything that happened with sensitivity but also brought some humour into the tour. He was very personable, and gave us much more time than we had booked, it was a super way to begin our staycation and I would definitely recommend to anyone that is visiting Derry. 5 stars!
