- 1Our walks take place on a combination of surfaced roads and designated trails. Different routes are available so please ask at time of booking. If you walk to the Rue Lighthouse along the spectacular cliffs at Roonivoolin you will be covering about half the island. Keep your ears open to hear the distinctive call of the chough: an island bird rarity. Altacarry or Rathlin East Lighthouse is another way to go. Sorry, you can’t get to see around the East light. If you visit the RSPB Seabird Centre (the other end of Rathlin), you will be able to see inside that lighthouse.Pass byInSite Tours Ireland
About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- claudelE1412TP0 contributionssee aboveAmazing one day excursion. Fergal was kind enough to start our tour by taking a run through Belfast since our cab murals tour had fallen through the previous day. The drive along the causeway coast and glens was superb. He took us closer to sites that were not otherwise reachable by large coaches. We stopped at a lovely place for lunch, with falls in the backyard. He picked us up at our airb&b in Belfast and dropped us at our unit in Derry. If you have limited time, this is the best way of seeing the region. Cheers, ClaudeWritten October 4, 2024
- briansA273FW0 contributionsA tour to rememberThis was our first trip to Ireland and our guide, Fergal, made this an experience we will always remember. The personnel attention provide to us throughout the day was exceptional. Our main interest was to see the beauty of Ireland outside of the city of Belfast. The sites visited included Carrickfergus Castle, the Andrew Jackson cottage and US Rangers museum, the Barbican of Glenarm Castle, Glenariff water falls, Giants Causeway and Dunluce Castle. Plus a few short stops in between to take in the views. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch at O’Connors Bar in BallyCastle. If this sounds like what interests you, then you will not be disappointed.Written September 22, 2024
- joemB4799GE0 contributionsGrand tour of the Antrim CoastSpectacular day with Fergal. He was knowledgeable, well paced and quite flexible. Very comfortable car. His route was adapted to our needs and timed to visit the Giants Causeway at the ideal time. Well done and well worth the private tour.Written September 17, 2024
- travelingtwo-30 contributionsExcellent tour!Fergal was exceptionally knowledgeable and seemed to be able to make small changes in the tour to meet our individual interests. He has a friendly personality, a very comfortable car, and is a good driver. We felt we got a great overview of Northern Ireland. It was well worth the money to have such a personal guided tour—we highly recommend this experience!Written September 2, 2024
- hammie5050 contributionsSuperbFergal has an excellent company. He is very knowledgable, personable and very accommodating. He adapted this tour to suit our needs/wants(more time at stops and a detour to The Dark Hedges ) .The Antrim Glens are not easy to see by transit(my sister and I don't drive) so this was a super fantastic choice, and no need to memorize the history,as Fergal knew plenty! This trip allowed my sister(who has mobility issues) to accomplish her lifelong dream--Thank you Fergal! The only thing I would want to change was the weather--but who can do that!! Even with rain, mist and wind the stops were fantastic--I think next holiday there I should spend more time in Glenariff--hiking! I would hire this again, well worth it! - debbiebG1426RE0 contributionsENTIRE EXPERIENCE WAS WONDERFULFergal and the tour locations competed for winner of the most fabulous award! We had such a wonderful time - being able to take a private tour was a splurge for us but entirely worth it. Fergal's knowledge seemed to have no bounds, which we took advantage of as we badgered him with questions. We learned so much and enjoyed such beautiful locations...we can't wait to return.Written June 24, 2024
- weha10 contributionsDay rich in History, Scenic Beauty and FriendshipWe chose this tour b/c of the itinerary AND the reviews of Fergal, the guide. It was a rousing success in both. And all the better with the perfect weather. Set out from our hotel at 11:00 a.m. Fergal took us first to Stormont in Belfast, seat of the gov’t in the North. Fergal knows his history and puts it across in context, makes it a story, and therefore memorable. Highlights: Carrickfergus for Andrew Jackson’s family historic site and, especially, the Rangers’ Museum (a MUST). The Int’l Appalachian Trail spur; Fall of the Hoof (inspiration to CS Lewis); a picnic overlooking the sea; view of the Rope Bridge (view = enough for us); the Giant’s Causeway. Fergal knew that a late-day arrival there is much less crowded. The day was full to the brim, but leisurely, too. His is a kind and generous person, and he adjusted the sites to a few of our preferences. The roads are in good shape, but narrow. Would be challenging for the typical American driver, used to the right-hand side of the road. All the more reason to hire this marvelous, expert guide, sit back, and relax.Written June 24, 2024
- jmackrak080 contributionsAmazing Adventure in Northern IrelandThis was an exceptional day tour, thanks to the expertise of Fergal, our tour guide. He made our visit to Northern Ireland so much more interesting with the places he took us to. Fergal is well versed in the history and was able to make it come alive with each stop along the tour. He was attentive to our requests and customized the tour while adding relevant suggestions. It was an amazing time exploring the beauty of the region and Fergal provided professional level photo-taking from our cell phone at each stop. Highly recommend Fergal and InSite Tours with no reservation! Totally deserving of a 5/5 Star Review!Written June 10, 2024
- Leighton56540 contributionsFantastic Personalised TourWe had an exceptional day viewing all of the highlights of the North with a very knowledgeable host in Fergal. We learned so much about the history of the area, but most of all enjoyed hearing about it from someone who has lived in, and loved, this part of the world all his life. Fergal went the extra mile to explain the scenery and provide additional descriptions to me as a blind person which made me feel included in the whole experience and as well, he very competently drove us through towns where my wife's grandmother grew up so that we could get a feel for these areas. Overall, we would recommend this tour to anyone who wants something special and to be able to set your own pace for the day to take in everything this region has to offer. We cannot speak highly enough of Fergal and his consideration of us as tourists.Written May 31, 2024
- GoPlaces5770010 contributionsTour just for usFergus was a great guide. We enjoyed our tour to the glen's, giants causeway, and small seaside towns immensely. He was very friendly and easy to talk to. We appreciated his local knowledge and him taking us to out of the places that felt like they were just for us. It was a wonder day that we will never forget.Written May 20, 2024
- C959QQdebw0 contributions- Best personal driver guide ever!We were met at the cruise terminal by Fergal. It was great getting into a private vehicle being whisked away instead of an overcrowded bus. Fergal definitely knows the area and is flexible in getting you to places you want to see. He was able to get into areas more timely and knew how to avoid the crowds. The weather was rather cool and windy, but it seems this is more normal climate for the area than we expected for beginning June. The little jackets we had were not enough. Bring a heavier jacket than you think as you can leave it in the car. One of us got terribly sick and cold (cruise bug or just a plain cold), and Fergal was accommodating by having a spare pullover shirt available to put on for the cold weather. Also, making a quick pit stop at a convenience store for some cold tablets and cough drops to continue our cruise journey. So, yes very accommodating to fit your needs. Very compassionate and ensuring guests are comfortable and welcomed. This is a fantastic tour and highly recommended. You can see old castles, coastlines and unique features throughout the Irish countryside and coastal areas. Due to time, we had packed so much into one day, we missed lunch or getting a bite to eat. We felt terrible Fergal didn't get a sit-down food break with us and we ended up grabbing some snacks to munch on during the drive. Found out Tayto brand snacks are his favorite, so we had a case sent to him with a nice tip later after the trip for all the extra attention we had during the tour. If in Northern Ireland, definitely find Fergal at InSite Tours and just go! You will have a fabulous time and memories forever.Written April 29, 2024
- SurveyNinja0 contributionsHighlight of our trip to IrelandMy mother and I had a tour with Fergal, in March. Prior to booking I did a lot of research. We booked the Highlights of Northern Ireland tour and had it customized to our interests. Before going on the tour my mother thought the price was high. She changed her mind within the first half hour. Fergal was prompt to pick us up and very knowledgeable. My mother had a fall the day before and was not able to do much walking so while I explored the Giants Causeway he took her to "a lovely tea house". It was the highlight of our trip to Ireland, worth every penny.Written April 7, 2024
- allanandlauriem0 contributionsWow X 1000Wow Every bend, every dip or rise in the road brought out a wow as our driver can contest too. Lots of stops for photos and stopped when safe to do so for special photo requests. Well worth the money and lost all track of time with the splendour of the Antrim coastline. Lots of local history told by a local Irishman. We had great weather in February. Avoid the congestion of the busy season and go before April.Written February 26, 2024
- Marketect_700 contributionsThe Highlight of Our Trip to Northern IrelandI booked a day for me and my friend with Fergal for a private driving tour of Northern Ireland. This was her first time in Ireland and I wanted a more bespoke experience than what you will get on a tour bus. The best description I can give is this was like a drive in a new country with a local friend who has the familiarity, experience, and knowledge to show you the true personality of a place. We drove down country lanes with stunning vistas, we stood on cliffs overlooking the sea, we drove down to intimate coves, and we met locals who added color to the day. An added bonus was a delicious lunch at Marconi's Bar & Bistro in Ballycastle. I'm still dreaming of the seafood chowder, and the staff were so charming. Fergal asked what we thought was the highlight of the tour and for me it was all of it! Thank you Fergal for a memorable day and certainly a highlight of our trip.Written October 21, 2023
- Renee D0 contributionsEverything I dreamed Ireland would be!Ireland was at the top of my bucket list. We’ve made other stops around Ireland but this tour completed everything I wanted and expected to see in Ireland. This was the most incredible tour. A full days worth of non stop unbelievable beauty and history. Fergal was a joy to spend the day with. We loved his stories and history lessons. I loved that we were able to see so much. Every stop was just the right amount of time to enjoy but then move on to next stop. Thank you Fergal for the best day ever! 💗Written October 9, 2023
