Chris the tour guide was informative and knowledgeable, he kept us really well informed of what time he would pick us up from directly outside our holiday apartment. Chris gave a running commentary throughout the trip as we wove through some lovely old villages and market towns and he has a great sense of humour. The trip itself was well worth the money and the time of approx 9 hours, I can be a nervous passenger but his driving was great! The steam train part of the trip went ahead too! Great for Heartbeat and Harry Potter fans alike! Our party consisted of Norwegians, Canadians and us Brits! Chris only does small (5 at present but I believe increasing to 7 in high season) party trips which ensured we got the full experience , and not remotely overcrowded ,there is time for refreshments and food at some of the stops and even a pint if you want. 5 star service and would definitely recommend this and book early to avoid disappointment!!

Seeing the beautiful scenery of the Yorkshire moors and dales was such a treat! We also enjoyed visiting Whitby and the other attractive towns in the area along with the scenic castle ruins. Pete, our tour guide and van driver, grew up in the area and was exceptionally good at describing the sights and history of this beautiful country. The van was comfortable even with 7-8 people, the stops were a good length and Pete's knowledge of the fascinating backroads was super! Our group of four adults enjoyed our day with Pete and also the half-day tour to Castle Howard. I highly recommend both!

Very busy day staff doing there best to deal with large numbers at Pickering station. Pickering station is superb clean and looks like it's still 1930. Only complaint is lack of seating on the platform it was a very hot day and out of the trainshed there was no where to sit. Looks like they've really nailed the authentic British rail experience from the unintelligible platform announcements to the 20 minute late running of the trains ( which strangely enough added to the experience.)
The train itself was spotless. Again only 1 complaint, lack of toilets. But as rules about waste on tracks has changed and these are very old coaches I can see why.nmust be expensive to retrofit waste tanks etc.
Enjoyed the ride through spectacular scenery to whitby where we were needed of the train and into the town.
I decided to cut short my time in whitby and take a regular NR service so I could explore grosmont
Again a spotless and well equipped station tho the lack of shade on a really hot day was a problem.
Had a fun day all said and done really worth the trip

Wonderful day with Pete on our tour. We learned a lot and appreciated the “insiders view” of the North York Moors from a native. Although we ran into an unexpected hiccup in Whitby due to no fault of Pete’s, he found an acceptable alternative and he and Chris both worked extra hours to get us the experience we paid for. I was impressed with their professionalism & it was worth every pound we paid despite slightly soggy weather! Highly recommend.

We loved our day exploring the varied and beautiful sights of North Yorkshire. Our guide Chris was knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. He shared lots of interesting historical facts and local insights that added to our enjoyment of the experience. The mix of sights and activites was perfect--from the dramatic windswept scenery of the moors to the charming market town of Helmsley and the bustling seaside city of Whitby. The steam train ride was lots of fun too. Other highlights included a quick visit to Helmsley Castle, fish and chips lunch, drive through Hutton Le Hole, and a stop to view the medieval church murals in Pickering. However, our favorite activity was visiting the historic ruined abbey in Whitby. Truly a memorable day. Thank you!

Nice trip to Whitby via some pleasant villages, lovely scenery along the way. The steam train journey on the return was excellent. Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly, and we were driven in a small capacity minivan. Well worth the time and money.

The day was perfect! Pete was a wonderful, knowledgeable and personable guide. Growing up in Yorkshire he was able to give such a personal touch to every place we visited. The villages and the moors were magical. Whitby was a fascinating town that surprised us both. The steam train was very special and loved the station! Pete was helpful in some very specific requests we had. I can't recommend the day highly enough. The tour whet our appetite to return, and we will be planning to go back some day!

The whole day from start to finish was fantastic. Our tour guide Peter was very friendly and informative. We had such a fun day out, getting to see some beautiful sites as we drove through the moors, ride the steam train and enjoy fish and chips in Whitby. It wasn’t a big group either so it felt very friendly and intimate and we could actually speak to everyone and ask questions. Would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a tour or something to do whilst your in York.

What a day! We saw the amazing Moors, idyllic villages, took a boat tour in the North Sea in Whitby and rode a steam train. Chris is an amazing tour guide: a local who knows every road and village and we certainly saw things we NEVER would have seen on our own. He even showed us where to wait for the train to get the best experience as it entered the station. He was also so patient and understanding with our young boys and gave us choices of different opportunities along the way. A great experience and highly recommended!

A great way to spend a day trip from York with my teen. This full day trip was done in a very nice and clean small van. So nice to have someone else do the driving and arranging the timing and tickets for the steam train. The tour allows for about an hour on the steam train which is plenty! The guide and driver, Chris, was friendly informative and a fabulous driver. We were picked up and let off at the door of our Airbnb. There were many stops and opportunities to wander during the day. Chris was helpful in pointing out sites and options that I am certain on our own we would not have found. Highly recommend this tour.
