About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Suzanne P0 contributionsGlorious day spent touring The Yorkshire DalesOur driver/guide Chris was excellent. He was prompt, courteous and very knowledgeable. The sites we toured and visited were excellent reflections of the area. Also, he explained historic derivations of words which helped us understand place names. He also passed around an iPad showing clips from ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL of places that we were visited.Written October 8, 2024

- simar3460 contributionsA well planned day trip with the best of guides.A wonderful day with Mark our guide. Despite the weather he made the trip enjoyable, with his knowledge of the area, and went out of his way to ensure we had a comfortable trip. Thank you Mark. A pleasure to meet you.Written October 4, 2024

- Avaler11110 contributionsAwesome guide and tour!Mark was a great guide! He starts out by asking everyone’s name and where they are from, which creates a friendly atmosphere right at the beginning. He does a superb job in describing villages along the way as well as much information about the Moors. Appreciated his tips on restaurant options in Whitby. He gets an A++!Written September 30, 2024
- annettes7280 contributionsExcellent day! What a splendid day with Chris and our adventure to the Yorkshire Moors, Whitby and steam train. We saw so many lovely sights, ate amazing fish at Whitby, enjoyed the steam train for part of the return trip and all this enhanced by Chris' commentary and sharing of his interesting local knowledge. Highly recommend. Sisters from Bendigo, Australia.Written September 28, 2024
- Quest141413116560 contributionsHerriot and Yorkshire Dales Trip From YorkThe scenery was amazing. The trip to the Dales was one of the highlights of our 2 week trip to the UK. Our tour guide Chris was absolutely amazing! He was very personable and was a wealth of knowledge and information about the Yorkshire Dales. He took us to many of the places used in the filming of All Creatures Great and Small as well as other historical places. I especially appreciated all the stops for photo opportunities and to get out and do some walking. I definitely recommend taking this tour!!Written September 27, 2024
- mtaint0 contributionsWorth every penny (or pence)! If you're fans of the books or the television series (or both) you do NOT want to miss this tour. Visiting the actual home and veterinary practice of Alf Wight (pen name "James Herriot") in his hometown of Thirsk, you get to see exactly what inspired his well loved stories. Then you travel to the actual film locations of the Channel 5 / PBS series, a wonderful trip through the gorgeous Yorkshire dales. Best of all, you get to spend a day with a local who knows and loves the unique culture of the region. Our guide, Allan, actually knew the "Herriot" family personally and gave us a lot of insider stories behind the books. If you love All Creatures, you will absolutely love this tour.Written September 24, 2024

- Voyager5257260 contributionsGreat small group experience with amazing guideWe highly recommend BOB tours! We spent an amazing day out with Mark on the Yorkshire Dales National Park tour. We loved being in a smaller group, and unlike those big bus tours, we were able to understand perfectly everything Mark said through his microphone. The tour guides at this small company build the tours around key stops with added elements based on their own experience and knowledge of the area. This meant that our guide was able to rearrange stops according to the weather that day and add in a few stops based on what he learned about the interests of our particular group. Aside from the incredible beauty of the area, we also enjoyed learning from Mark’s deep well of knowledge to improve our understanding of the history, culture and economy of the area. Our one regret was that we didn’t think to have cash on hand to tip our tour guide. Tips are not expected but if you take one of these tours you will see how hard the guides work and appreciate the thoughtful personal touches they bring to your experience. We think you will want to thank your guide with a tip!Written September 10, 2024

- Paradise197949685880 contributionsA wonderful trip, a history lesson and the best fish and chips!Me and my son took this trip with Mountain Goat Tours on August 30th. Our driver was John and I think we got so lucky. John made the trip with his humour and facts that he delivered throughout the day. I wish I had recorded all the history he relayed, so knowledgeable. We had the best weather too with sunshine and blue skies. The Mercedes passenger van was v comfortable even when going over the more bumpy trails. Highlights included the Moors and Whitby Bay and thanks to the recommendation from John we ate our fish and chips at the Magpie Cafe, award winning. Lovely! Highly recommended trio and hope you get John as your guide!Written September 1, 2024

The trip, was wonderful- just what we had hoped, to sit back and relax while another person drove, and to see the beautiful Yorkshire Dales countryside, accompanied by our tour guide and river Mark’s excellent narrative. His diction was very clear, informative, responsive to questions, and fun. We learned about geology, history, Agricultural, practices, and so much more. The tour was nicely paced with driving, stops along the way in lovely small towns, and quick photo op stops of particularly lovely scenes.A short wait for a flock of sheep to be moved on the road from one field to another was an extra treat. We would highly recommend this tour!

Although a rainy start in York, Mark our driver with great knowledge of the area, the history and how life in the Yorkshire Dales unfolds through the year was friendly and could tell us of the best places to get the perfect photo, the choices of places to eat and drink and places to go. This is the fourth trip I have taken with BOB Holidays and cannot recommend them enough. You are comfortably transported in a 16 seater mini bus and given information along the way about the area you are visiting, with regular stops along the way. Despite the rain, it was a really lovely trip.

Just had a wonderful day exploring the Yorkshire Dales guided by the exceptional John. His knowledge of the area was impressive, providing fascinating insights into the history, geology, and culture of the Dales. We visited picturesque villages, stunning landscapes and hidden gems that we wouldn't have discovered on our own. John's passion for the Yorkshire Dales was infectious, and he ensured everyone had a memorable experience. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to explore the beauty of the Yorkshire Dales with a knowledgeable and personable guide. with John as our guide - also listen carefully as there’s quiz on the bus heading back to York!

We really appreciated the slight change in the posted itinerary to accommodate the wind and rain in the morning and still get us plenty to see. Mark was a terrific guide and driver. This is a great way to see the Yorkshire Dales without having to figure out all the roads yourself. And the cheese was delicious!

We had a lovely day trip to the Yorkshire Dales today. Our tour guide Mark was polite, courteous and very knowledgable and informative throughout the whole trip. The bus was comfortable with large windows and it was nice to be in a small group of 16 people. The scenery was breathtaking. We stopped at a few beautiful and quaint market towns, sampled a lot of different cheese and stopped at a some scenic spots for photos. On top of that, we had some extra routes and hidden gems thrown in, that Mark squeezed into the day for us. It was a very enjoyable day!

If you aren't driving a vehicle and don't have the chance to get to the Yorkshire Dales yourself, this is a good opportunity. The tour offers a full day trip and a long drive into the Yorkshire Dales, with lost of wonderful views of the Dales - beautiful hills and valleys, pretty villages, farms, rock walls, sheep and cows, rivers/streams, Bolton Castle, etc... The tour leader stops many nice places providing many chances for short walks and nice photos. The tour leader also offered interesting information - history, anecdotes, recent events - about the area. I might have preferred to drive out to the Dales myself and take a long walk along one of the many walking paths, but as I didn't have a car on this trip, the tour was worth it.

The tour guide was very well prepared and told us a lot of exiting stories and facts about Yorkshire Dale.
There were a fair amount of stops on the way, and thus all participants had a good chance to get out and take some photos, walk around the small towns, and even had time to do some cheese tasting.
The bus was clean, tidy and seats were comfortable, and everything worked well with the sound system (chauffeur used a microphone headset).
Also he spoke very clearly and understandably English, which was a nice treat for foreigners like us.
All put together this made a brilliant trip for the day.

We whet on 20th April and Mark was our tour guide and he was amazing with his interesting knowledge of the area and practices. We loved visiting the small villages and Bolton Castle it's a shame we didn't have time to explore the castle but still good to visit and take photos and have coffee with cake here. The mini van was comfortable and Mark a excellent driver. We would definitely recommend this trip as its a great way to see the Dales. Many thanks Tracey and Norman. X

We have been with BOBH many times over the years and have always found Mark a very pleasant, courteous, knowledgeable guide who is considerate to other road users whilst able to keep his clients informed of the scenery, etc they are looking at. Unlike drivers of other tour operators he doesn't keep up a constant stream of chat, so allowing you to appreciate the countryside you are travelling through. In addition he knows the good photo opportunities and, if asked, he will take a photo of you and your companions with your camera, so no need to take 'selfies'. We hope to be enjoying another trip with him next year.

Overall experienced was superb, it was such worth the price.Really a perfect getaway from the busy city life. Rain didnt stopped us from having fun and be reconnected again with the nature for short days .It was such a wonderful place , the lush green/ brown fields and enioyed watching lambs and cows savouring nonstop the wetty grass.
Mark was such an articulate tour guide / driver seems he has mastered the North Yorkshire history in all aspects since he was little😘
All places we been to were all amazing knowing the history behind Abbey Ruins, castles, and the beauty of the waterfalls. The small but lovely villages around and eating the local sausages and the world class ice cream were such a great memories to keep.
This tour is highly recommendable .
