- Journey126898100880 contributionsGreat day - worth every penceWe went on this tour Wednesday, October 30. Our driver was Mark, and he was very informative and patient and kind and made sure we had fun! Because we were a smaller van, Mark took us to a few places off the beaten track. He really did go above and beyond! The views were stunning and we all learned quite a bit about life in this national park. All stops were just enough time and the Wensleydale creamery is a must do - complimentary cheese tasting and a great lunch spot.Written October 31, 2024
- moonlight420 contributionsOutstanding Day TripThe tour was outstanding. Mark, our tour guide, was excellent. He was knowledgeable and friendly and showed us a bunch of great locations. The weather was atmospheric (i.e., misty, rainy) and he tried to ensure we got to places where we could see and take pictures. All in all, it was a great experience.Written October 26, 2024
- robertsZ167MY0 contributionsAwesome tour!Well designed tour of Yorkshire Dales National Park. Mark, our driver & guide, was excellent. St Mary's church in Masham was interesting, the Nation Park views were awesome, Grassington was a great place to stop for lunch and Linton Falls were beautiful.Written October 19, 2024
- Janice B0 contributionsA day in the DalesWe were looking for an easy way to see the Yorkshire Dales after ten days of constant busyness. The views were incredible and received a lot of information abt the area, the history, the sheep, and birds. Poor weather would impact it, we luckily had a great day. If you are looking for a lot of walking, or a fast pace, this tour does not provide that.Written October 14, 2024
- deeleatham0 contributionsBest day tourDay trip to moors & Whitby with this company was simply the best from start to finish. All on time, lots of information from our amazing guide Ben who didn't stop giving us all the history from this amazing part of u.k. Loved the steam train ride to Whitby, Recommend the fish n chips & mushy peas. Met some good people visiting from U.S.A Recommend to everyone, probably not suitable for children.Written October 14, 2024
- Suzanne P0 contributionsGlorious day spent touring The Yorkshire DalesOur driver/guide Chris was excellent. He was prompt, courteous and very knowledgeable. The sites we toured and visited were excellent reflections of the area. Also, he explained historic derivations of words which helped us understand place names. He also passed around an iPad showing clips from ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL of places that we were visited.Written October 8, 2024
- Jingao X0 contributionsA fantastic day trip!I just finished the trip and returned to York. This is a fabulous trip, way beyond my expectations! I was very hesitant before I booked the trip and only found myself so lucky that I made it! The scene is stunningly beautiful and our tour guide Mark is fantastic. Strongly recommend anyone having a day free in York take the trip. And hopefully you are as lucky as me having Mark as your tour guide. Enjoy the trip!Written October 2, 2024
- Avaler11110 contributionsAwesome guide and tour!Mark was a great guide! He starts out by asking everyone’s name and where they are from, which creates a friendly atmosphere right at the beginning. He does a superb job in describing villages along the way as well as much information about the Moors. Appreciated his tips on restaurant options in Whitby. He gets an A++!Written September 30, 2024
- Quest141413116560 contributionsHerriot and Yorkshire Dales Trip From YorkThe scenery was amazing. The trip to the Dales was one of the highlights of our 2 week trip to the UK. Our tour guide Chris was absolutely amazing! He was very personable and was a wealth of knowledge and information about the Yorkshire Dales. He took us to many of the places used in the filming of All Creatures Great and Small as well as other historical places. I especially appreciated all the stops for photo opportunities and to get out and do some walking. I definitely recommend taking this tour!!Written September 27, 2024
- mtaint0 contributionsWorth every penny (or pence)! If you're fans of the books or the television series (or both) you do NOT want to miss this tour. Visiting the actual home and veterinary practice of Alf Wight (pen name "James Herriot") in his hometown of Thirsk, you get to see exactly what inspired his well loved stories. Then you travel to the actual film locations of the Channel 5 / PBS series, a wonderful trip through the gorgeous Yorkshire dales. Best of all, you get to spend a day with a local who knows and loves the unique culture of the region. Our guide, Allan, actually knew the "Herriot" family personally and gave us a lot of insider stories behind the books. If you love All Creatures, you will absolutely love this tour.Written September 24, 2024

- ANNALEE_L0 contributionsGreat guide. Beautiful landscape.Mark was wonderful ... knowledgeable, courteous, entertaining. The day was beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Having a smaller van allowed for smaller roads.Written September 12, 2024
- Voyager5257260 contributionsGreat small group experience with amazing guideWe highly recommend BOB tours! We spent an amazing day out with Mark on the Yorkshire Dales National Park tour. We loved being in a smaller group, and unlike those big bus tours, we were able to understand perfectly everything Mark said through his microphone. The tour guides at this small company build the tours around key stops with added elements based on their own experience and knowledge of the area. This meant that our guide was able to rearrange stops according to the weather that day and add in a few stops based on what he learned about the interests of our particular group. Aside from the incredible beauty of the area, we also enjoyed learning from Mark’s deep well of knowledge to improve our understanding of the history, culture and economy of the area. Our one regret was that we didn’t think to have cash on hand to tip our tour guide. Tips are not expected but if you take one of these tours you will see how hard the guides work and appreciate the thoughtful personal touches they bring to your experience. We think you will want to thank your guide with a tip!Written September 10, 2024

a lovely day out. We spent a full day on our feet going around York, starting with a 10:00 walking tour. What next? Saw this, really fancied a more relaxing day, being ferried (then walking freely), and a train trip to finish. Comfortable 16 seater with good air circulation, a driver who cared about your enjoyment of the entire experience (on/off van) from 09:00 until 17:00ish. Rail strike was on, but BOHB had been proactive to ensure we did not miss out entirely on our train trip (line overlaps with national (closed) network for a bit). Great, relaxing, day out. We are unfit 59yrs, but even if you have limited mobility, say 500m+ before rests, phone and talk to them.

What a wonderful day tour with an incredibly competent guide! We departed from York precisely on time, allowing us to stay on schedule and hit all the stops at precisely the right time so that we could have enough time each time when we made a photo stop and when we stopped for lunch in Whitby. We got beautiful views of the Yorkshire Moors. The route was scenic and the photo stops were optimal. When we arrived in Whitby, the guide offered advice on a wide variety of things we might do, including estimates on how much time each activity might take. The railway trip was of the least interest to me. I enjoyed it well enough but I think it's better suited to a group or a family rather than a solo traveler like me. And the guide. Not only was he a wealth of knowledge offering both history and amusing stories along the way, he knew the route very well and when a particularly good view was coming up on the route - like Castle Howard - his timing when alerting us to the view was perfect so that we didn't miss a thing. Very satisfied with this tour and highly recommend for groups and solo travelers.

This full-day tour includes some amazing views of the moors (loved the huge fields of heather) plus an interesting variety of additional stops (historic train station, seaside town of Whitby, etc.). Our guide, Matt, was well versed in the history that contextualized everything we saw and made it so much more interesting, plus he has a great sense of humor and had us laughing. We would have been reluctant to try to drive on these little roads ourselves, so we were very glad to let someone else do the driving.

This was such a good trip. Very well thought out route ensuring we stopped at all the best places for the right amount of time. The guide and driver of the tour was very friendly, knowledgable and clear in his instructions of when and where to meet. He was also a very good driver. The train from Whitby to Goathland station was optional but we would highly recommend, the scenery is breathtaking.

I've been going to the North Yorkshire Railway before it actually opened. My husband and I were volunteers. After being in the office all the week it was a great escape and a busy weekend. I helped run the buffet carriage and served the food out to the visitors and also painted some of the carriages. My late husband worked very hard on the railway and enjoyed painting many of the carriages. My husband's brother still goes up many weeks in the year still mending and painting etc. All voluntary work. The Railway is fantastic and now we take our Grandchildren on the trains. We usually go from Pickering to Grosmont and sometimes all the way to Whitby. It is a wonderful day out and gives the children an idea of what past like was like. I am unable to put the correct date we went as it was before the Pandemic.

Our day trip from York over the beautiful North York Moors to lovely Whitby was our best day out. Mark our driver and tour guide was excellent; very knowledgeable of everywhere we visited throughout the tour and clear and concise with drop off/ meet up points and timings. Was a really enjoyable, interesting and relaxing day, felt the company offered an excellent personal service since we were a small group of 11 and would happily recommend BOBH tours.

We did two tours with BOBH, this one and the Yorkshire Dales. The villages encountered were so lovely and unspoilt, it was a world away from our city life. The weather was not the best on the dales tour, but our guide, Mark, was fantastic and adjusted the itinerary to take into account the rain with a surprise along the way by visiting a waterfall which made it all worthwhile, and we had a brilliant day on both tours.
The Whitby tour is perfect for having a couple of hours to yourself to explore and the Moors are very atmospheric.
Have done a few tours with various companies and Mark was by far the best guide, he was so friendly and gave us so much information about the places, remembering all of our names and where we’re from, but also gave us the space to explore by ourselves. Cannot recommend this company enough, thank you!

Very good day in Yorkshire. Excellent transfer by Mercedes minivan- clean and comfortable. Driver/ guide attentive, knowledgeable and speaking very clear English, ensuring that all participants understand. Optional steam trip highly recommended. Whitby - a bit of disappointing town.

This was a great tour despite the dreary weather.
Mark was a fantastic driver and tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and flexible, making allows for inclement conditions.
We enjoyed good food in the small villages, dramatic sights of whitby - Mark drove us up to the Abbey and then we walked back down from old to new parts of Whitby, great views of town and harbour.
Fish and chips at Quayside was quick and delicious.
Then onto the steam train. Again Marks local knowledge helped to get best shots of the steam train.
A great day out.
Travelled with older relatives and they managed everything except the walk down from the Abbey.
Although we travelled in July the weather was intermittent showers throughout the day with low lying cloud cover, which Mark allows for.

I have great pleasure in recommending BOBH minicoach tours. I did two full day trips from York: firstly the North Yorkshire Moors, Whitby and the steam railway, and secondly the Yorkshire Dales. Mark was the driver/guide both times. Mark was excellent - polite, punctual, engaging, helpful, informative, knowledgable, humorous. He took a personal interest in each of his customers, his commentaries were clear and interesting and his driving was very professional. The minicoach was very comfortable. The itineraries were well chosen and I came back feeling I really knew the areas we visited. I thoroughly enjoyed the two days.

Hi - I would like to book for 2 persons for the above trip for October - will the Steam Train still be operating during October or is it seasonal? Also, what would the extra cost be for the Steam Train as that is not included in the Tour price? Thanks
Written June 6, 2022
This trip runs to end October, so assume this will include the steam train as well. It is only £10pp and well worth it
When we travelled in May the train was the old carriages but powered by a locomotive, owing to the dry weather the risk of embers over the national park was high, don't think this will be the case in October !
Enjoy. The scenery and the trip was to behold.

Viator do a day long trip from york to Whitby going over the moors to Whitby they do include a steam train ride from Whitby to I think grosmont ( where heartbeat tv series is set) Covid restriction on the railway stop us from doing this part of the trip so make sure it includes this you will have to pay the train ride seperately .

For those who choose to take the steam train, how long roughly can you spend in Whitby before leaving?
Written July 16, 2019
We had about 2 hours in Whitby before getting the train. Time to walk around the abbey, walk down to the city, and have lunch. As I remember, Those who didn’t take the train had about 15 minutes more in Whitby.
