About the operator

- jwschu0 contributionsGreat tour! This tour was well worth it. Aidan was a funny and knowledgeable guide who you could tell really cared about punk rock and its place in musical and cultural history. It was cool to see the places where the Pistols, the Clash and many more played and learn about the birth of punk rock. Lots of funny anecdotes and quips from a guy who was there as an impressionable youth. And I learned more about London’s general history than I was expecting. Highly recommend. 👍Written October 4, 2024

After booking this tour for my dad back in Christmas 2019 with it planned for March 2020 we've had to cancel and rebook a few time but it was 100% worth the wait! Aiden was so knowledgeable about The Clash, Joe and the area. So many stories which we hadn't previously heard but also the level of detail in showing us picture spots with the picture.
Was just fantastic we had such a great time and are already eyeing up the punk soho tour
Thanks again!

Aidan was passionate and exuberant as a guide for this. I was looking forward to revisiting those early times of The Clash by choosing this walk and Aidan brilliantly rekindled those early days with some fascinating information and stories about Joe Strummer and made more colourful by his enthusiasm. It's a good lengthy walk through the times of Strummer's early days with the 101ers as well as with the Clash and against the backdrop of the Notting Hill riots and some of the venues of Strummer's early gigs. Brilliant.

A MUST for any proper Clash fan. Fills in important points about their history. Learning the history of the area adds perspective to their lyrics and their progression as musicians.
1. Great for casual and committed fans alike.
2. Committed fans (imho) should reach out to Aidan ahead of time and arrange a longer private tour.
Either way, you will be pleased - of course it helped we had a perfect day for this...
tl;dr - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

The moment Aidan sets of from Ladbroke Grove Station, he's taking you back to the mid 70s, placing you not only in the shadows of Joe Strummer and his lot, but painting a picture of London and the Westway at the time. Tour takes three hours on foot, and every minute is essential history for Clash or punk fans. This Clash fan learned so much about Joe, the 101ers, and the Clash from this tour that no movie or bio could hope to match. And Aidan's a wonderful host, weaving in his own perspective of the scene as someone who calls the same streets home. He'll be happy to share a pint and talk London music history with you afterwards. Seriously can't recommend the tour enough.

Spent a brilliant couple of hours with Aidan as my guide on his 'Strummer Walk' around Ladbroke Grove. The tour's as much about this permanently under-rated area of London, as it is about the great man and his band. So, even if your interest in the Clash and Uncle Joe does't register on the Richter scale, t
aking a walk through the city in the company of a man who clearly loves, lives and breathes the people and its places might well be the one of the most enlightening and uplifting experiences you have all year. PS...I've gone back for seconds, as the day after the Strummer Walk, I booked myself and friends on Aidan's Bowie tour of Soho. Consider me hooked.

I was in London for business but as a Clash fan I took advantage of the fact that my trip coincided with the 40th anniversary of the release of London Calling. I was fortunate to see a documentary screening of Don Letts's Westway to the World which included a Q&A with Mick Jones and Paul Simonon. Further, I went to the Museum of London's exhibition on London Calling. And yet, these activities did not bring to life the history of Joe Strummer and the Clash as Aidan's StrummerWalk did, it was the highlight of my trip. Walking the streets where the band lived while Aidan contextualized the band's history with the history of the neighborhood helped me better understand the band, especially Strummer. Walking the streets made the band's history come alive in a way that museum exhibitions and documentary screens simply could not. However, there is a caveat, because London is gentrifying so rapidly, many of the sites are being repurposed. Nearly all had some sort of scaffolding . . . so don't wait, take this tour as soon as possible!

Spent a fantastic 3 hours today with guide Aidan McManus and katie who also undertook the tour visiting from Washington USA. Aidans has incredible knowledge of the area around the Westway and Portobello market Charting the history of the area and the changes and influxes of varying ethnic groups different classes and how the housing needs and housing has changed since inception. HIs story telling is first rate from Joe Strummer visiting the betting shop he worked in and not to place a bet🤷🏼🤷🏻♂️ to Don Letts being on the front line (not) of the local riots under the Westway. Thoroughly enjoyed his telling of the history of the squatting movement in West London how this was linked to many bands living in the area and how it played a major part in Joe strummers life the rise of 101ers and ultimately the story of the Clash .
Highly recommended .

We did it again. It was the second time we took the tour, and it was a great experience and we learned additional facts and had a great time with Aidan. It is the best way to really immerse oneself in the times of pub rock at the verge to punk and the squatter scene. Rich in details and personal experiences and with 120% street credibility, Aidan’s knowledge is extraordinary and his storytelling including the historical context is entertaining and makes the tour a fully enjoyable almost 3h.
A must for Strummer and The Clash fans.

This was the fourth one of Aidan's walks that I've done and I would recommend them all to anyone with a love of music, social history and London in general.
Having grown up in the area Aidan is very knowledgeable about his subject matter with first hand experience to call on and quick to bust a few internet myths around Joe Strummer and The Clash.
Funny, engaging, down to earth and a great tour guide, make this one of the first things you book now Lockdown is lifting!

Aiden is made for running the punk rock tours, a true original and the best storyteller! He lived during the times and knows the area inside out, his humor is just the best.
I learned so much about Joe Strummer, the Clash, and the 101ers and about the history of Ladbroke grove which played a key role for the Clash. We learned about the riots, saw the first pubs running punk shows, and dived into the squat city.
As a music producer, it was amazing to see also places where Bob Marley and many other legendary artists recorded, man, this tour was a huge surprise and really made me understand more about Joe Strummer and where the lyrics and Album covers come from. Thanks so much, Aiden, will definitely book all your other tours when I'm back in the UK - Keep up sharing the important music history because Westminster Council will not do it ;)
