Fascinating tour through the Old Royal Naval College grounds and buildings by our knowledgeable and witty guide, who brought this remarkable World Heritage Site to life for us. We were regaled with stories about the old hospital for seamen, the funeral procession of Nelson and numerous anecdotes about the international film industry’s obsession with this beautiful monument to Sir Christopher Wren’s architectural genius as a location.

The piece de resistance is where the tour ends: the absolutely breathtaking Painted Hall, which title belies its majesty, splendour and sheer artistic alchemy.

Do not miss this astounding immersion into British history.

Everybody should visit this incredible Hall, it certainly has the wow factor and left our group of 4 in absolute awe. We have never seen anything so stunning and beautiful…not even all the paintings in Rome! How come we haven’t heard more about it living where we do in the Midlands?

However, without our lovely guide Isobel, we would have missed so much. With the aid of her trusty torch she highlighted the stories behind the paintings and their characters, and her knowledge of them was unbelievable! If you manage to have her as your guide you are in for a real treat. Thank you Isobel!

Have to say though, that EVERYONE was so friendly, welcoming and helpful, thank you all.

Cannot recommend this experience highly enough.

Spent a great day at Greenwich. Visited the Old Royal Naval College visitor centre first and then took the guided tour around the buildings, included in the price of the Painted Hall, which also incuded visiting the Chapel and had a go at the old skittle alley left over from the old naval Hospital. The tour was interesting and we learnt a lot. The skittlle alley was a fun and unexpected extra. The Painted Hall was wonderful and well worth adding to your visit. Afterwards we ate in the cafe here too - great food, beautifully decorated tables too. Didn't realise there was so much to see away from the main Greenwich museum.. Well worth a visit.

I was lucky to get tickets to see the Gaia (globe) installation by artist Luke Jerram before it closes at the end of June. I came early in the morning just as the doors opened so there were not many people in the hall with me. The painted room itself is absolutely gorgeous and beautiful, but the slowly revolving globe in the hall was something else; so incredible and I'm very glad I got a chance to enjoy it. You must prebook ticket to go into the hall. Track and Trace is also happening for all exhibits, so you either scan the QR code on the NHS app or you can write down your details on a piece of paper.

I am so glad I decided to do a guided tour of the Painted Hall. The gentleman who took the tour used to be a history teacher( can’t remember his name) and really brought the paintings and history of the period to life with humour and charm! We learned so much and found it riveting.Thank you guide…sorry I can’t recall your name nbut we visited on the 12/3/22

Old Royal Naval College Greenwich – The Chapel of St Peter and St Paul. This is the best place to visit in Greenwich and well worth the time if you like old English churches. The college is a masterpiece designed by Sir Christopher Wren, who designed or rebuilt some 52 churches in London after the great fire of 1666 including the masterpiece, St Paul’s Cathedral. This college stands on the site of the Greenwich Palace which was the favourite residence of King Henry VIII. The college houses an exquisite painted ceiling and there are mirrors on several of the settee tables in the room so that one need not look up to see the ceiling frescoes. The complex was also built to take care of disabled veterans of England’s naval battles, and the Chapel basement was an area where they were fed and housed. One of the more unique chapels in England. Visited late Fall 2019.

The Painted Hall is an absolute gem that I take everyone to when they visit London. When I first moved the UK 6 years ago, I fell in love with Greenwich largely because of the naval college and the Painted Hall. It is my favourite place in all of London.

It's peaceful, serene and truly majestic. I still gasp each time I see it again. It's never disappointed when it comes to impressing guests.

If you're looking for an incredible proposal spot- this is the ticket! Add on the market, the observatory, a walk by the Thames and afternoon tea at the fan museum and you are set for the perfect day in Greenwich.

Visited the Old Royal Navy College today (Wednesday 22nd July 2020). It is such a splendid place to visit when your in Greenwich. It boasts over 500 years of history. HRH Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and Prince Charles all studied here. It has had several films done. From Pirates of the Caribbean to The Crown. Adirmal Lord Nelson laid in state in the Painted Hall. Must book a tour. The staff are very knowledgeable. A very must do thing. Get your ticket converted to a 1 year pass. Meaning when you want to go back again its free
