Eva was an absolutely great guide.
Very funny and entertaining and due to the smaller group, inquired about origin and names and thus made the tour a bit more personal.
She did a great job of entertaining us on the ride.
Bampton, was immediately recognizable if you are a Downton fan, absolutely recommended is the small store here (in the film, Hospital) here locals offer a small merchandise for small money.
Unfortunately we didn't have that much time there and could only explore this for 20 minutes.
Downton Abbey was absolutely breathtakingly beautiful, just as you always imagined and absolutely recommended!
We would still recommend doing the tour on your own as there is no entrance fee at Bampton and Downton Abbey costs £21 and there is no guided tour inside.
So considering we paid £300 for two people. Absolutely overpriced!
We have done so many tours. There would be £80 of which £21 entrance fee is more than appropriate.

Our tour guide Eva did a good job. Keeping us all informed about what to expect and what the day was going to include. We did find the Bamford village experience slightly disappointing, can’t really see the point in stopping there. Would have much rather had more time at Highclere Castle. Very disappointed to find we had to queue for half an hour before entering the castle. And to have only 2 hours there, no where near enough. Felt very pressurised during the time inside the Castle, way too many people, pushing and jostling. Had no time to see and take in the Castle experience. Not an experience I would want to repeat.

This was such a great experience. Our tour guide Emma R. was friendly and knowledgeable. She played Downton Abbey episodes for us on the trip out and the 1st Downton Abbey movie on the way back to London. Seeing Highclere Castle for the first time as you come up the drive is pretty special. You can't take photos inside which is the only downside. Otherwise it was well worth the money! The trip into Bampton was fun too, great to see the buildings/homes that were used in filming.

This could have been a fantastic tour however there were too many issues that detracted. First of all, the mini bus was in horrible condition and very unclean. Even though we arrived early before everyone else we were stuck in the back of the bus where evidently the shocks were completely worn out. Then our guide must have been having a bad day as he seamed completely out of control of the timing of the tour stops and events, gave incomplete or unclear directions to the tour participants, and frankly seamed very unsure of his knowledge of the tour subject, although at times he did seam to know what he was talking about. His attempt at humor and his waiting 10 minutes past the start time for participants that never showed, were examples of things that could be addressed differently going forward.

This tour was well organized and our guide, Emma, was very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Our small group was on a full-size bus which was comfortable. Our only suggestion would be that the guide have a microphone on the the bus as it was hard to hear her commentary from our seats.
We enjoyed the tour of Bampton village, seeing the filming locations for the show. Highclere Caste was great to see - photography inside would be nice although we realize this is a castle policy, not one of the tour company.
We visited on the record hot day, so our time at Highclere was somewhat too long as it was too hot to spend much time wandering around the grounds. On a cooler day, this would have been nice to do!
We would definitely recommend this tour!

My daughter and I had a wonderful experience on Brit Movie Tours' tour to Downton Abbey yesterday. Our guide, Stewart, was extremely knowledgeable and funny...he added to the experience immeasurably. Seeing Highclere Castle (aka Downton Abbey) was a dream come true for both of us, and we loved seeing the rooms in person that we've seen so many times on TV. We also enjoyed visiting Bampton, the village in Downton Abbey. We were really glad that we chose the small group tour rather than a large one. Highly recommended!

What a fantastic day! On a picture perfect day visit to Highclere Castle, this trip did not disappoint. The journey by coach was smooth and easy. Stewart was a great witty guide who pointed out things along the way and was very knowledgeable about Highclere and the Downton Abbey show. He showed the different filming locations and how the production used the Castle to bring the story to life. We explored the house and grounds and had time for drinks, just relaxing and taking it all in. It was an intimate small group and much fun,

This tour was excellent. Our Guide Emma was outstanding. She showed pictures from the show in the spots we were standing and gave us extra insights on the filming of the show. We even watch even watched episodes as we traveled along.

Had a great day out on this tour from London. We stopped at the village of Brampton which was used a lot in the series and which is a lovely place with our guide showing us stills from the TV show and the clever things the film crew done to change modern day streets back to more authentic looks for the period. Then onto Highclare Castle which was so interesting to walk around soaking up the history and all the rooms that were used for filming with photo's of cast members. Such an iconic building. Brilliant. My only suggestion is to spend less time in Brampton as we could have done with more time at Highclare. Thanks to our guide Ben who had lots of info and easy going and explaining things and thanks to our driver Terry. A good day.

The bus driver kept getting lost. It cost us over an hour. And the tour guide (Ava) had to keep interupting her talking to us to try to follow on GPS and then tell the driver what do to.
Ava had brought videos of Downton Abbey for us to watch and discuss. The video player didn't work at all. Then eventually, it worked but no sound. We couldn't read the subtitles while the bus was moving and shaking.

My mom uses a walker. It fold up relatively flat. Would she be able to bring this along to assist her with walking around?

If I remember correctly the mini bus we take to Highclere Castle has room on it for a folded up walker. The only thing I'm not sure about is once you get to the castle. I know they had wheelchairs you can borrow to get around the first floor. But there is no elevator to get to the 2nd floor. So that could be an issue. The grounds are mostly gravel paths and grass so that could be something to consider as well.

Highclere is mainly open the summer months, seems to be always closed on Sunday’s. You can check their website as it is very informative. Seeing 2020 will help a little but I would guess 2021 will not be posted till early 2021.

Can children go?
Ibsrnc
Louisville, KY13 contributions
I think it depends on the age and their behavior. Don’t get me wrong, children will be children, and that’s okay. But Highclere is filled with antiques and precious objects. There’s no sitting, climbing , or touching. There is plenty of outdoor space to run and jump and get rid of excess energy. So, it really does depend on the age and ability of children to walk through, look and be still for a time till the outside is available.
I’ll be staying in Newbury, very close to Highclere Castle. Are there any tours that don’t require me starting in London?

Our tour definitely left from London, which I think is generally desirable for most people. I don't recall our tour guide mentioning any versions of the tour leaving from anywhere else. We went from London to Bampton then to Highclere Castle.
