About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- lobster640 contributionsTime WarpExcellent venue for all ages. Going back to yesteryear, learning how our ancestors carried out their daily lives. Ride a Tram , the visit to the Dentist was eye watering ! A treat in the bakers , a quarter of sweets … first time in decades for us. The manor house was amazing , and a bonus a Tavern next door! So much to see and do , it could take a couple of days . We were time limited so missed a lot , mostly because the rain never stopped all day sadly. We would return .Written October 1, 2024
- Julie S0 contributionsA Charming City Filled with History and KindnessWhat a charming and delightful city! Our daughter decided in the University of Lincoln for college and I was in awe of the history, diversity and genuine kindness of the people we encountered.Written September 29, 2024
- T8962AKalisak0 contributionsA really fascinating tour – with a great guide! This was a wonderful tour. The stories of London’s experience with the bubonic plague are fascinating, and it was wonderful to be able to walk around the city and see some of the places where it all happened. It was very interesting, and touching, to see the sites of actual plague pits – now parks and squares – but which were once witness to some of the most desperate and bleak periods of London’s past. Seeing the area where Samuel Pepys lived was also fascinating. Stephen is a fantastic guide and really brings the history to life! He is brimming over with lots of stories and information about London over the centuries. Don’t miss this great tour!Written September 26, 2024
- C223TUjank0 contributionsA truly atmospheric experience of a dramatic period in London's history.I loved this tour and highly recommend it! It was so atmospheric to wander in the neighbourhoods where so many people perished, to see the plague pits where they were buried, to walk in the same streets that Samuel Pepys walked, stand where his house stood and visit the church where he worshipped regularly. This walk really brings home the devastating impact of the Plague, not just on the population, but on the city itself. Stephen Liddell is a fantastic tour guide. In addition to being relaxed and fun to walk around with, he is a veritable gold mine of information on the history of London, and really brought to life a very dark and frightening period in the city's history. Stephen is a very engaging, knowledgeable and experienced guide, and his tour is a unique way to experience London's past. Don't miss it!Written September 25, 2024
- louiseo3270 contributionsA fascinating and enjoyable tour of beautiful StamfordA really great tour! Perfectly paced and flexible enough to accommodate our group spotting little places they wanted to look at including a bakery and the market. Stephen is an interesting and engaging guide, hugely knowledgeable and full of quirky little facts and anecdotes which really make a place come alive. I’ve been to Stamford many times but this tour covered places I had no idea existed and explained the history and significance of more familiar areas. A fascinating and very enjoyable morning.Written September 20, 2024

- D9795NRannier0 contributionsBest Tour I’ve ever taken!!This past August, I had the pleasure of visiting London with a group of nine friends, and went on an exceptional walking tour led by Stephen. His captivating presence and remarkable ability to engage each of us with a wealth of knowledge—from history and architecture to fascinating insights into James Bond and Harry Potter—made the experience unforgettable. It was undoubtedly the highlight of our trip. I look forward to doing it again on my next visit to London—if only we could have Stephen accompany us everywhere! I cannot recommend this experience highly enough—10/10!Written September 12, 2024
- 980allisont0 contributionsCan't recommend enough - do this tour!Fabulous tour! A must-do if you have a free afternoon in London and are interested in some unique tid-bits and great storytelling! Stephen was an incredible guide who immediately fit in our group and felt like a friend; plus he always had a lively story to share with us over a pint! Would highly recommend this tour (or any of the Ye Olde England themed tours) and will be doing it again on my next trip to London!Written September 8, 2024
- 980allisont0 contributionsAwesome Tour - Stephen is the Best!Stephen and the tour were incredible!! One of my favorite things in our whole London visit was this tour! Stephen, our tour guide, was very warm, personable, knowledgeable, lively, and entertaining - would have spent all day following him around and listening to his fun facts about even the most inconspicuous buildings and landmarks; he made everything remarkable! The tour was engaging and very personalizable - we did some standard walking tour mixed with 2 pub stops and I thought it was the perfect mix of educational and super fun 🤩 Any themed tour by Ye Olde England Tours is certified to be good - don't miss out!Written September 8, 2024

- Danielle E0 contributionsAmazingWell! After years of planning a visit as it's a 3 or so hour drive from Leicester. to much to see in 1 day (we came sunday and Monday from 10 am until 4 pm). Return free for the year, so now we have no choice but to return! staying at the premier inn in Washington was perfect! We found that Monday was much easier to get into the sweet shop/bakers, etc. Worth the money beyond words, the mine was brilliant, just us 3 and the guide, and he was great with our son who is naturally very quiet. Trams, etc, are easier to get on weekdays and from the more remote areas. Get to the chippy for about half 11 or go to the one in the pit village as the ques are smaller and you won't be disappointed, limited benches but on a nice day, pop your bum on the grass! plenty of places to perch. 10yo loved explaining what was happening in the viewing area at the sweetshop (you tube fan, lol). Staff were lovely, great to see them so in character! Fish and chips, sausage roll, chocolate cake, cherry cake, and were all delicious! When you consider the cost of today's fish and chips, it's actually quite cheap, haha. Love that you can get up to date cider (being regulars at the Black Country means we are used to time period drinks that aren't carbonated). We saw everything in 2 days but feel we need 3rd just for a general wander! If we lived close by, this would be our go-to place for sure! gutted, we have to go home! Beamish! thank you! I haven't laughed, smiled, and relaxed like that in a while!Written August 12, 2024

Did a couple of tours with Stephen in early March. He was extremely knowledgeable and just generally a really nice bloke. I was a bit strapped for time so did two tours in one day, Jack the ripper and the Churchill tour. I was a bit unsure about spending the whole day on a 1 on 1 tour. With Stephen it wasn't an issue, he was really interesting, provided thorough and lively explanations of every site and even answered all my stupid questions without complaint. Especially enjoyable was our trip on the train when he explained in detail the history behind the underground and each stop along the way. The highlight was when a foreign TV crew was so impressed by his knowledge of Churchill - they decided to interview us!

Thanks so much for your great review. I'm really glad that you enjoyed your day with me, especially with two such contrasting tour themes and very different areas of London.
I'm still a bit impressed with myself that we got to the war rooms to the second at the right time after all that.
The TV crew was a highlight for me too but it was really nice to meet you and I will always remember our two tours.
