About
The Queen’s official London home, Buckingham Palace ranks among England’s most famous landmarks—yet it’s only open to the public two months each year. With this tour, you’ll secure your audio-guided visit to the palace’s State Rooms during the often-sold-out summer opening. A guided stroll through St. James's Park and front-row views of the Changing of the Guard (your guide knows the best spots along the Mall to watch the ceremony) also included.

  • Guide knows the best spots to watch the Changing of the Guard
  • Tour begins with a stroll through one of London's eight Royal Parks
What to expect
Meet your guide at a central London location before strolling through St. James’s Park—one of the capital’s eight Royal Parks—to get to Buckingham Palace. You’ll experience the palace at its liveliest with the Changing of the Guard, a traditional ceremony that sees guards wearing red jackets and bearskin hats on the march, accompanied by a military band. Or, on days when the ceremony isn’t held, learn about Buckingham Palace’s history and intrigue on a walking tour. Next, guaranteed admission means you’ll have the rare chance to enter Buckingham Palace, which is only open to the public two months each year (and which always sells out). Plug in your audio guide and see the palace’s sumptuous State Rooms—used today for royal events—up close. Your tour concludes at the palace gates.

Great tour with Jay from Minnesota. He filled waiting time with interesting stories and anecdotes and knew the shady places to wait to watch the guards march by. The self-guided tour of Buckingham Palace was amazing! Hard to believe we had the opportunity to spend time in these storied rooms. Jubilee exhibit with photos and jewels was wonderful. Even walking through the grounds on the path to exit was delightful.

Loved the whole experience! Tour guide, Jay, lovely & full of information! Definitely do this if you are in London. Changing of the guard an experience, fab!! No tour guide for the palace but you are given headsets and all historical information is there.
Highly recommend!!

This was a neat experience for our entire family. I wish we would have checked into it more before showing up only 30 minutes before the changing of the guard. By the time we got there, there was a huge crowd and it was difficult to see anything. If you do this activity I highly recommend getting there really early so that you can get a good view.

Confirmation email should clearly state where to meet the tour guide. We almost didn’t figure it out in time and others didn’t. Be sure to carefully read the departure info in the tour description.

Also, during our tour, the guide lost us in the crowd. He kept saying to the group, which was dispersed in the crowd at the palace’s main gate, to regather “here” but he never described where “here” was (and we couldn’t locate him).

We ended up just waiting for the group & our guide at the palace’s group entrance for over 30 minutes so we could rejoin them and enter the palace. We basically had a “no guide”tour.

The “front row” to the Changing of the Guard was quite far away (see photo), and guide David likes to hear himself talk. I felt a lot of time was wasted walking to-and-fro, and other groups must have gotten much better views. The seamless entrance to Buckingham Palace was a benefit, and the self-guided tour was really nice.

Appalling customer service from City Wonders . I discovered a few days before my trip to London that the date on my ticket was in the passed and I had missed the tour. I called and acknowledged my mistake in not checking the date on the ticket ( I don't know who made the mistake at time of booking, me or them) explaining we were coming to London for my husbands 50th and asking for some flexibility and consideration in their policy when it came to rescheduling my ticket to this weekend. After a number of calls and emails they still refused to help. They were happy to take my money but not happy to ensure that I received the the service. cannot afford to re-book this but if I do ever get the chance to see Buckingham Palace again it wont be with City Wonders!

We couldn’t find the meeting place anywhere online or on the tour operators website. So we spent two hours hanging around waiting for the tour to get to Palace check-in. Missed the changing of the guard. Should be prominently displayed on the ticket or voucher. We were not the only ones. Once we got in the Palace tour was great but disappointing to miss half the tour.

First, go in the summer when the royal family is away. That way, you can get tix and tour the interior of the palace. It's marvelous. Filled with art and tradition and grandeur.

BUT best of all, stay after the tour and have tea in the garden. Plus the best desserts anywhere. Profiteroles to die for.

Then a nice leisurely walk takes you to the exit and gift shops with souvenirs that are really a cut above. Not like you find on the streets!

I was so happy after spending the afternoon at this wonderful place. You must go there.

Wow the audio tour is really great. It's so much fun to be able to walk around in the Palace and know that the queen is there doing her thing. We went on her summer vacation away from the Palace so we were lucky to see such important rooms. The audio guide gives you a lot of information but also lets you sit and soak in the ambiance of the space. It's pretty grand and lavish and you have to wonder the "why" of it all but it does date back for so many years that it isn't all that's been collected in our age and time that has contributed to the grandness of it. You can just imagine being a royal for the day if you have a liking for all things royal and have watched of the Royal family TV shows. It's a real treat, and I think I would plan a visit to London at a time to be able to visit when the Queen is in Scotland. No photos inside. You also walk out the back entrance onto the big lawn where the lavish garden parties are held and take a separate garden tour if you like, but on your way out, you can stop by the Queen's ice cream shop for a cone and leisurely walk the grounds on the way out to get the view as well. Stunning to be sure and fun to get an insider's look into Royal living.

My party was fortunate to be able to view many rooms that are otherwise off limits while Queen Elizabeth was out on holiday. The palace is absolutely beautiful! There are many paintings on display that are also worth seeing. It was a bit confusing as to where the entrance is (on side), but once in, it was truly a wonderful experience. If you are staying in London for a few days, consider purchasing the London Pass--we saved a lot of money.
