Excellent itinerary, so the tour had lots of promise. Much more expensive than other similar tours with larger operators (likely due to the small bus\small tour setup). The problem that we encountered is that the tour guide was late (which can happen). However that just foreshadowed what the attitude was. In pretty much all the venues he had very little to say in terms of history or anecdotes other than "....let's meet up in an hour etc" leaving us on our own which is not what we signed up for. He did ask me would I rather have him come along in Oxford or we can do it ourselves. "What!!??". In one instance, in terms of the rare historical anecdotes which is what many of us signed up for , the same story was repeated. He did however, give many personal stories of his family, friends etc. Lastly, he forgot that a certain entrance fee was included in the tour which was only undertaken after a fellow traveller pointed it out and he confirmed it with head office. He had no clue.
Sorry but this is the reality.

This was our second trip with International Friends. The first one, to Stonehenge, Bath and Windsor, was amazing but this one was a bit of a disappointment. The main problem was that the timing was so tight that there just wasn't enough time to do justice to the various sights. Our guide was fairly friendly but never introduced himself and had to spend a fair amount of his energy keeping us on schedule and giving directions to the bus driver. A lot of his commentary was about things we wouldn't have time to see. As for the driver, he never said a word to the passengers. This would be a much better experience if they extended the day past 6:30 or dropped one of the sights.

When we got to Oxford, our first tour stop, the guide went tearing off down the street with the fast walkers leaving the slower folks stretched out over 3 blocks of downtown streets. When we asked him to slow down, he told us he would not and chewed us out for walking too slow. We ended up leaving the tour in Oxford and making our way to the Oxford train station for a train back to Paddington Station. The only thing that raises this tour to a three star rating is the excellent and caring customer service by Becka who arranged for a refund and called us later to make sure we got home OK. Perhaps with a different guide this could be a good tour.

Hi Joel,
Thank you for taking the time to write your feedback.
I was so sorry to hear of the issues you experienced on your tour. As discussed on the day of your tour this is, in no way whatsoever, how we would ever expect our customers to feel at the end of a tour with us, and the situation at hand was investigated in full and dealt with accordingly. We were (and still are) so exceptionally sorry for this. Should you ever return to the UK and wish to travel with us again, we would be really keen to show you how an International Friends tour should be run, so please do get in contact if you plan to return!
Wishing you all the best on your future travels

We took this trip, picking it up in Oxford. Our tour guide Tony was excellent! In addition to Shakespeare’s birthplace he showed other sites related to the Bard in Stratford. We then travelled through the beautiful Cotswolds taking small roads that allowed us to see parts of the countryside we wouldn’t on main roads. We stopped for lunch in beautiful Burton-on-Water but Tony had suggestions for other places less busy. This was a relaxing glimpse into the beautiful English countryside and we were thrilled with the tour!

The tour lasted about 12 hours, and was very well paced. It is a nice way of getting an overview of the areas visited. Our guide Oliver is knowledgeable, informative, and charming and kept us engaged throughout the day. Debbie was the local guide in Oxford, and she is just a wealth of knowledge about the city and the university. We'd highly recommend this tour.

I booked this tour because it is in a small van vs a large bus. We had a small group of people which I liked. Also we could go down some of the roads that bigger busses cannot access, though because of the snow and the weather we really were not able to continue down the roads. Still we were able to get a sense. Trip is well paced. First Oxford, then we went to Burford, Stow on the Wold for lunch and Stratford upon Avon where we had the most free time. Overall, would highly recommend. (We were picked up at 7:45 am and returned 7 pm to London)
