About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- juliakF6202SW0 contributionsProper Welsh experienceA day trip of wpunderful mountain views, sea, picturesque little towns/villages and of course castles! A proper get-to-know Wales with historical and cultural commentary from Scott, who made sure to deliver the best possible experience! I recommend this trip for anyone wanting to discover this beautiful land and have a great time away from the city life- and Scott's humour is a plus!Written November 7, 2024
- 273maggie0 contributionsCastles galoreThe five stars is for Guide/ Driver Scott who did an amazing job with his knowledge of North Wales and even taught me a lot about it. He made sure we had a good time and showed us great view points to take photos. I enjoyed the tour even though the allocated time for Caernarfon Castle wasn't long enough to see the castle, have a look around the shops or river which was a shame. The highlight for me was the viewpoint of Snowdonia. Thanks again Scott for a brilliant day.Written November 3, 2024
- arpitam0 contributionsAn unforgettable experienceWe chose The Mountain Goat for the day trip to the Lake District. The driver cum guide was Jean, a very friendly and professional lady. She was very punctual and knowledgeable who poured in all the necessary details throughout the trip. Her experienced approach helped us dodge several rain clouds and we could make the most of day long trip. The journey was smooth and picturesque. Once out of the Manchester city the country side landscape is all rolling greens dotted with white cattle and clear blue sky. We reached Bowness by the lake Windermere, the largest lake of England. Very pleasant and windy. The cruise took us to the southern most tip of the lake. A railway carriage with heritage steam engine was waiting for us. We disembarked at Haverthwaite where we meet our guide. She took us through the winding country roads along the lake Coniston, the 3rd largest lake of England. The view was magnificent as we headed to Hawkshead, a chocolate box quaint village with charming character. This is a fairy tale place in reality. We bought some ingenious signature chocolate and caramel from the country and headed bavk to Manchester. This is a memorable trip and strongly recommended to all fellow travellers.Written October 23, 2024

The boat cruise was fantastic as was the train journey. It was unfortunate that we had a cold and windy day but we thoroughly enjoyed our trip. Thank you Mountain goat tours. Definitely will be booking for another tour shortly.Written June 28, 2024
- 769chuny0 contributionsPerfect tour of exploring the Lake DistrictIt is my first time of visiting Manchester and the Lake District. It is definitely a perfect tour to join for exploring the stunning view of the Lake District. The office staff in The Mountain Goat is nice of solving my enquiry. I would like to specially have a great appreciation on our tour guide and driver – Scott. He is definitely passionate in his job and showing his enthusiasm for introducing the Lake District. He also tried to remember each of us in the tour. What a great tour!Written June 22, 2024

- Fearless5602300 contributionsExcellent tour of Lake District! We have always rented a vehicle and done touring on our own, but with only a couple of days in Manchester and the strong desire to see the Lake District, we signed up for the Mountain Goat van tour. It turned out to be so great, we’ll start making these kind of tours a regular part of our visits to new places. We got to see and experience many of the highlights of the area (including the train and boating experience on Lake Windermere) with an awesome driver/guide/advisor - Tom - who answered our endless questions with as much enthusiasm and patience at the beginning of the tour as he did at the end of our 10 hours of adventuring! A high quality tour. We were completely satisfied.Written August 31, 2023

- Emilymul0 contributionsA trip out of this worldWe embarked on a fantastic tour of the Windermere Lake with our brilliant driver and guide Tom. His driving expertise, his cracking storytelling on top of the effort to offer us the best of the Lake District made it a unique experience. He went the extra mile to make this trip feel special to our group. He really tried to give us an insightful and genuine and authentic experience and I feel like we have had a dream trip in that area ! The mini-bus was roomy, air-conditioned, with large windows to take pictures of the breathtaking scenery and I, who generally get travel-sick in an instant, never did ! Our stop-over in Hawshead was out of this world and I cannot recommend the company enough. Our group was composed of many nationalities - Australia, India, Korea, Japan, HK and people were very friendly !Written August 11, 2023

I would have loved to have gone, however, the trip was advertised as "Things to Do IN Keswick". Unfortunately, I realized too late that I would have to drive 18 miles or more to meet up with the group. I just couldn't do that. Add to that, my email pleas for a refund went on deaf ears until it was too late to secure a refund. Further, I made my own way up to see the Castlerigg Stone Circle...it was after 2 pm...the Mountain Goat Tour bus passed me on the way up, barreling up to the top with a fierce rapidity. After awhile, it roared down the hill, and would have certainly hit me if I had not cowered against a stone wall. I guess you would say that I was disappointed. 35 pounds isn't a horribly expensive amount to lose, but, the inflexibility of the company is a little much.

Dear chriatopherb,
I am disappointed to read your 1* review.
I believe you booked our half day Six Lakes tour with pick up in Ambleside however it wasn't until the morning of the tour, that you realized the pick up point was not in Keswick. I am sorry that the information regarding the pick up point wasn't made clearer for you earlier and this meant you weren't able to make arrangements to join the tour at the agreed pick up point. We offer a very fair 24-hour cancellation policy and as mentioned we do not offer refunds after this point.
We would always suggest booking with us direct for the most up to date schedule and information from our friendly local team.
It's worrying to hear your account of the passing of the bus at Castlerigg Stone Circle, I will certainly look into this. We have an excellent safety record and the safety of our driver-guides, customers and passersby is the upmost importance.
Best wishes,
Mountain Goat

This is the perfect tour to do in The Lakes if you're not driving but want to experience the scenery with some expert knowledge. Our guide/driver was Carol, she is excellent, full of local knowledge, she made is very interesting and enjoyable. It is a mini bus, we had 14 passengers, so a small number which was perfect. We weren't rushed, we had ample time to see everything, take photos, have a little ramble or sit and have a coffee. We visited 6 lakes as well as other spots of interest, including Grasmere, where you can visit William Wordsworth's grave. By the end, we felt we had seen The Lakes in all their glory, stunning and spectacular.

This tour was excellent, combining spectacular scenery with a brilliant guide, Elliott, who was entertaining as well as knowledgeable. There were plenty of opportunities to leave the bus to take photos and to absorb the amazing sights, and we had a longer stop in Grasmere so that we could take refreshments as well as visit this lovely village. All in all, this tour is very good value for money and I thoroughly recommend it.

I have been around the world n joined a good number of tours. Tim, the tour guide from Mountain Goat, has been the most knowledgable and the most enthusiastic. He is also the most innovative in photography. Although I have been to the Lake District a number of times, the itinerary still impressed me. Tim told us a great deal of new things about the history, culture, geography n especially poetry about the region. His creative group photo n video of us are really creative n memorable. Very highly recommend him n the tour.

Duncan was a wonderful tour guide. Even though there was a road closure which affected the trip itinerary, he adjusted and showed us some additional beautiful sights to make up for it. I highly recommend this tour!!

Had such a wonderful time exploring the beautiful Lake District by minibus. This tour is perfect for two travellers visiting the area by train for an extended weekend - would happily return to Windermere even just for another tour. The planned route was partly closed (only seeing one or two lakes in the end), but we ended up going on a customised tour of various tarns, viewpoints and villages - with plenty of local knowledge from our friendly and welcoming tour guide. Would highly recommend!

Had a wonderful time with Tim as our tour guide. He was endlessly patient answering questions and taking photos. I was so glad I booked this tour to see a little more of the Lake District with some knowledgeable commentary. Even in the rain, this place is beautiful!

Since our tour group was a smaller, our guide Mark H was very adaptable to what we wanted from this experience! His brain was impressively loaded with 4 hours of facts about everywhere we passed/got out to explore, and he made a much appreciated effort to get to know the group members. Would recommend to anyone I know is stopping through the area!

This bus tour was wonderful. Lisa was incredibly knowledgable and quite funny as well. I loved the fun facts she told us - I wrote many of them down to remember. I was also very impressed with her driving, especially through all the hills and mountains! It was the perfect amount of time and a great way to see a good amount of the lakes district. I was feeling quite car sick toward the end, and Lisa was very accommodating to my needs. Would definitely recommend to anyone :)
