- SmilerSam310 contributionsSolving CluesI’d recommend it if you want to explore a bit more about the city and solve clues, kept us occupied for a good 3 hours… Absolutely beautiful city to see and we had fun trying to figure out the answers.Written January 8, 2023
- LindaShelby0 contributionsTreasure Hunt ChesterVisiting Chester with friends. What a fabulous way to see the city. We had a fab time seeing the main historical sites with a few pub stops on the way. Can take your time, great extra information along the way. Loved the clues, a little challenging at times- gets you looking around even more but you can get hints on the way if you get really stuck. Great way to see the city. Would highly recommend.Written January 22, 2022

We did this treasure hunt in Chester as part of a a hen weekend. It was fantastic!!
Really easy for everyone to use, a great way to see a city and see things that even locals aren’t aware of, and everyone had a brilliant time. When we couldn’t get the clues easily the hints were really helpful.
The booking was super simple easy, as was accessing it on the day. The communication from Ian prior to booking and once booked was excellent.
We’d all recommend this to others wanting to an explore a city and I know that most of the people in our party and planning to use again for seeing other cities, with friends or with their families.

We absolutely loved Captain Bess's Treasure Hunt! It was a fantastic way to explore the city, have our brains tested with the clues and some of them where sending us crazy (in a good way)! Loved all the snippets of information you got too, so interesting and the little detours to viewpoints. We had such an amazing time and will be not only booking another treasure hunt in another city, but we will also be going back to Chester to explore all the places we went on the treasure hunt.
We did the hunt as a family, we had our 10month old daughter with us and can safely say, the routes are buggy friendly and alternative routes are provided where steep steps and slopes are included. She loved it, being able to see so much around her and even nap on the route too. We thought it was fantastic. Thank you so much!

Found this online and wanted something different to do with the family. We usually choose bowling or an escape room but fancied something that lasted a bit longer and stumbled across this experience. Our choice was Chester as it’s the nearest to where we live.Really good value when you compare with other activities. Found it easy to use and very well organised. The clues were testing and not too easy. The clues sent us all over the city centre and we saw things we had never seen before. And shortcuts we didn’t realise existed. One thing to remember is you have to think outside of the box when trying to solve the clues.
My two grown up sons were a bit sceptical about this activity but actually they both had a great time. If it was a bit warmer we probably would of incorporated a couple of pub stops but as it was very cold opted for a warm coffee instead which subsequently was bought from a cafe in the park which again had never knew existed.
Would definitely do another City great fun!!

This is the second one of these we have done (Birmingham and now Chester too) and we absolutely love them. Some clues are tricky (there are hints if you need them), some are easier and they take you to places you'd never see if you were just walking around. SUCH fun, would highly recommend to anyone visiting a city, with or without kids. Mine are 12 and 14 and loved it...

Really good way of exploring the area! It took us to places we wouldn’t have normally explored. It also kept 2 12 year olds entertained especially with a trip to the cafe for ice cream!

As others have said, its a great way to get a slightly different tour of the city, it will take you out and around certain streets and areas that otherwise you'd never see or would pass by without a second thought. The info given in the areas is a nice addition too and gives you a better understanding of some of the history than you would get if just wandering about on your own. Possibly not quite as informative as a "full" guided tour though, but that's just speculation.
The fact that you have to buy a minimum of two tickets at nearly £10 each even if you're only using one phone is a little steep. However, it lasted a lot longer than we expected it to so we still feel like it was good value for money. Ensure your phone is fully charged and/or you have a power bank with you, taking photos as well drained my phone pretty low by the end.

Thanks for such a helpful 5-star review. I'm really pleased you enjoyed some of the extra information you learn along the way and you thought it was good value. Great tip about the power-bank, too! Thanks again and hope to see you on another hunt in the future. Ian

This was a great way to explore Chester. The treasure hunt took us to some of the most interesting points in the city, providing fun clues and information along the way. Being able to have multiple players meant our children could get involved as well, which was great for keeping everyone engaged.

First visit to Chester. This was a fun and great way to see a beautiful city. We had a baby and buggy with us so the accessible route options were really helpful. Relys on a good Internet connection, ours was OK for the most part only it wasn't great at the start by the town hall so recommend loading the game in advance of arriving there.

It's lovely to hear you had fun and managed with the buggy. We've worked hard to design all our 14 games to be wheelchair (and buggy) accessible, lovely when it pays off!
Thank you for writing this!

This is a fun way to explore the city and see things that one otherwise wouldn't. I can't give 5 stars because of the stealth price. It says £9.95 but when 'booking' it's a minimum of 2 people. The thing is, the number of people is irrelevant. You are simply paying to access the website.

I'm sorry you didn't find it good value. We charge per person, like all tours and most activities. We certainly didn't intend it to feel like a "stealth price" so I'm sorry that it came across that way.
It takes an enormous amount of work to design, create, maintain, support and update the games. We're a two-person independent business and we strive to make high quality games. That doesn't come for nothing.

Really good, fun way to spend an afternoon. I have now done two different treasure hunts and you get to see so much more of a city than if you were to just wander round by yourself. Well worth doing, looking forward to the next one.
