- AnOstler210 contributionsGreat tour.Great way to learn so much about my home town. Johnnie our guide was excellent. Tour was paced well and covered the highlights of the city.Written September 1, 2024
- Dr-Ing-Dchen0 contributionsIncredible tour guide!I arrived early for a business meeting, so ended up going solo on this tour as my colleagues hadn't arrived yet. Tony Rodgers was the tour guide and he gave a wonderful tour. Tony is extremely knowledgeable about Cambridge and the history surrounding it. He seemed to sense what my interests were and provided extra and informative facts. I am always interested in history and even more so about science and engineering, and he delighted me with so many facts about the discoveries made by people living and working in the earlier days in Cambridge. Tony pointed out many museums and other sites to visit, many of which I returned to after his tour ended so I could explore more in-depth. I highly recommend Tony. He provides an awesome tour, sprinkled with interesting facts, trivia, and humor. I can see he would captivate young and older folks alike. Next time I'm back in Cambridge, I'll see if I can set up another tour with him, as I know I'll learn so much more!Written August 17, 2024
- ML H0 contributionsDefinitely do this tour!Tony was great. Very funny and knowledgeable. Our time flew by far too quickly. Would definitely recommend this tour - a perfect way to pick up facts, unusual anecdotes and bits of history, whilst also getting your bearings on where things are. Corpus Clock was fascinating, and the view from Great St Mary’s Tower (not included but we went back afterwards) was all the better for doing this tour beforehand.Written August 17, 2024
- melaniepX5966IE0 contributionsExcellent tourWe booked a private 'Royal Cambridge' 2.5hr tour for five of us. Chris was excellent - gave lots (but not too much!) of interesting information about Cambridge and all of the must-sees. Responded well to our interest and questions on specific sights. Cambridge itself is of vourse a wonderful place to visit. Highly recommended.Written August 4, 2024

- 309PeterS3090 contributionsGreat walking tour of CambridgeTony Rodger’s provided a very informative and entertaining walking tour of Cambridge full of history and fun. We got lucky and enquired about tours at the Visitor Centre just before he was starting a tour and he called in to pick us up to join the tour. He also provided a discount voucher for use at the Eagle Pub, which we gladly used.Written June 8, 2024
- johnkM609BN0 contributions90 minutes flew byThree of us joined Johnny for one of the public tours of Historic Cambridge. We all agreed that Johnny was constantly interesting; easy to listen to; and, in 90 minutes, managed to treat us to a kaleidoscope of history, geography, tradition, economics, and sensational stories. Who knew, for instance, how it was that Cambridge was once a seaport on the North Sea; or in which house the public hangman had his lodgings when visiting the City in the 1800s?; or that Trinity College owns the O2 Dome in London; or on the roof of which prominent building, in 1958, for a lark, students parked a car, and left the authorities to work out how to get it down? Now we do. Thanks, Johnny.Written June 6, 2024

- 60745Diane0 contributionsBest Tour everTony made our experience simply outstanding! We are visiting friends, and we live in the US. They booked the tour with Tony and we never looked back. His humor and knowledge made the tour a delight for the 4 of us. His detailed knowledge and humorous wit kept us wanting more. Hated to see the tour end. Cannot recommend this tour group and Tony strongly enough! Thank you for all we learned in a spirited way! DianeWritten May 28, 2024

Had a wonderful two hour walking tour with Tony, he was incredibly knowledgeable about all aspects of Cambridges history and a former student of the University. He is a fully accredited tour guide and is full of anecdotes and small details about the city that I'm sure you would miss on other tours. He was funny, entertaining and engaging and I can't recommend highly enough. Especially right now as the group sizes have been cut down to 6 due to social distancing you really get a lot of personal attention. Many Thanks Tony.

We were a class of 20 people and stayed for 4 days at cambridge. On the first day we had this visit, the guide was very friendly and explained the history of Cambridge very well, my whole class liked it because Cambridge is a very interesting city. We were also able to visit the chapel of kings college which was very impressive. I very much enjoyed this visit, which I strongly recommend to all of you.

My husband and I had a fantastic tour of Cambridge this weekend with Tony. Having been part of Cambridge University since the 70's as a student, head rugby coach and fellow, Tony has a wealth of fascinating information of the city, the university, architecture and more gruesome medieval tales. We had a lovely time and would recommend this experience to anyone visiting.

The web site said 2h but all the emails said 90 minutes and 90 minutes it was. We have lived near the city for over 20 years and wanted to know more about it above and beyond the locations of the shops and coffee shops. We greatly enjoyed it and I would say that 95% of the information was new to me. Things we have walked past hundreds of times over the years were brought to life and we walked down several roads I have never used. Altogether highly recommended.

Hi! I'm sorry if you found the website confusing. I can't actually find anything that says the historic Cambridge pulbic tour is two hours, but if you can point me to it I'll make sure it's corrected. I'm glad you enjoyed the tour and learnt some new stuff about Cambridge. Thank you again for booking with us. Best wishes, Chris Skilton

I recently had a tour by Tony Rodgers as part of the Cambridge Tour Guides. I was part of a group of 20 people and we all really enjoyed the experience and would highly recommend it. Tony was funny and entertaining, but also very professional and knowledgeable, providing interesting and informative facts about the different colleges and Cambridge as a whole. I would definitely recommend it. A fabulous experience. Thank you Tony

My husband and I take this type of guided tour whenever available in our travels. Our two-hour extravaganza with Tony Rodgers on 18 September was one of the best. Every moment brought the remarkable history of Cambridge alive with facts and fun stories of how the city and University came to be, and of some of the many brilliant minds developed there. To hear how Stephen Hawking's family had his college porters bear his casket, or to learn new and different theories surrounding Turing's death really made this personal. Tony is an engaging and funny presenter. He clearly loves people, his city, and his University. (Yes, he's a graduate.)

Tony, our guide, had a very good sense of humor and was able to catch our teenage girls' attention.
We learned about the different achievements and Nobel prizes won at the various colleges but also about all the pranks the students did over the centuries.
The 1.5 hours went by much too fast and we wished we had more time.
A reason to come back!

We had a fantastic morning with Tony. He entertained us and our three children ages 13, 12, and 10 intelligently and enthusiastically with just the right blend of history, fun facts, and tales of mischief. The two hours flew by. Tony also very considerately booked us a table for us for lunch at a great restaurant. One of the best tours we have ever had. Highly recommend!

What a surprise treat! We popped into the Tourist Information Centre to get a map on Friday 17th July and ended up being given the most enjoyable, informative and compelling walking tour of Cambridge by Cambridge Tour Guide Mark Donachy. So many back-stories and anecdotes accompanied Mark's fluent, educative and very colourful commentary. (Mark, we'll be back for a Spies & Espionage Tour on our next visit to this beautiful City!) Tony's excellent tour was a brilliant highlight of a recent visit to Cambridge and I would highly recommend him . We were a mixed group - aged between nine and 80 - and each one of us thoroughly enjoyed his highly informative and very amusing stories and anecdotes. Although the colleges were all closed due to Covid 19, we still came away having learnt an enormous amount and spent a very entertaining morning in his company.
