About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- richardhS5615MV0 contributionsGreat way to see so muchWe try and take an open top, hop on and hop off tour wherever we go. It’s such a great way to see so much. The commentary over the loudspeakers was preferable for us, to having to use ear plugs. We were staying near Stop 9, which was very convenient. We got off at The American Cemetery and again near the shops. Buses were plentiful and regular, at 20 minute intervals.Written August 18, 2023
- 379kevant0 contributionsAvoid at all costs!!!!!Absolute no-show. The website encouraged us to book in advance so……£33 lighter with our e-tickets we turned up at the start at 10.00 for the advertised 10.10 bus. Nice electric sign above the stop indicated it would arrive at 10.10. No bus. The sign changed to 10.30. It was a sunny day so we and the growing crowd of German tourists thought “what the heck it’s only another 20 minutes”. 10.30 the sign changed to 10.50. My partner emailed them and the response came back “please show patient” (not my typo - that’s what it said). 10.50 - no bus - sign now said 11.10. At this point we and our new German friends (who like us had all been charged and paid in advance), decided to plan our own walking tour……………And now we are struggling to get a refund. It’s a scam - they take your money and just don’t turn up.Written September 24, 2022

- MICHICABA0 contributionsTerrible experience, only printed tickets accepted!!We purchased our tickets via Your Guide, they were not honest by not telling only printed tickets were accepted. We purchased them on line but when we got the bus they send us to print the tickets!!!! we're on vacations we DO NOT HAVE ANY PRINTER AVAILABLE, anyway we reached the local library, they asked us to suscribe to the library, download tickets, pay the printing, look for cash, we lost 2 hours just for printing the tickets!!! Terrible experience in a digital eraWritten October 3, 2019
- Gumgrove0 contributionsGreat Intro to CambridgeWe decided to take a break from walking and driving in this busy town and let someone else do the hard stuff. We were pleased with the tour. Lots of info delivered via a recording. We learned a lot about the city from the tour. Buses we clean and ran about every 20 minutes. It goes all the way to the American Cemetery it you wish to stop there.Written September 29, 2019
- cheryl h0 contributionsDont waste your money.Purchased two full priced adult tickets for 24 hour duration, only to find out the second day we went to use our ticket there was no service. There were no notices and the driver did not mention this at the time of ticket purchase. On our return home I emailed customer services and this was a first for me as we have used this service as far as Paris, bath and Stratford upon avon, always satisfied.customer services said no refund goodbye. waste of time and money. Would not recommend.Written July 27, 2019
- NannyLadyCat0 contributionsWaste of moneyWe've been on many many of these tours throughout the UK and this one was by far the least interesting...usually it's a fantastic way to see around a city and all the things hidden away but we found this trip very disappointing. The bus went too fast so you couldn't take photos easily and then the driver waited at every stop until the allotted departure time and then he sped off again, the trip was nearly 1.5 hours long and cost £30 but all you saw were colleges that form part of the university. Take these away and Cambridge has very little to offer...it's very spread out with little choice of venues to eat unless you want a sandwich...we couldn't find any little cafes hidden away anywhere... not enough seats to sit on around the city either. One dimensional and would not return. Would also suggest you visit when all the trees are bare as you can't see a thing through all the foliage either!Written May 22, 2019
- chocolocomama0 contributionsGreat way to view Cambridge and stops at the American War CemeteryWe've used these hop on hop off buses in several UK cities and as usual, this one was fairly efficient. It stops right outside the Hilton Hotel in the city centre and also at the American Cemetery which is well worth a visit.Written May 7, 2019
- 70ish0 contributionsGreat guide to cityAs usual the sightseeing bus is the best way to get to know a city we had a very good audio guide and just got off where we had boarded having got our bearings but being hop on hop off all day if you wanted to it is excellent valueWritten May 3, 2019
- essama6380 contributionsStunning cityI walked around the city with my family. It is a very beautiful city to wonder around. It was amazing to see how green the place is. Each area there is a nice size park. College at each corner.Written April 18, 2019
- MartinG_530 contributionsAlways a great way to explore a cityWe were pleased to discover that Cambridge boasted a hop on hop off bus service. It is our favourite way to find out the layout and history of the city. The buses we travelled on had a speaker commentary. Unfortunately we had three chattering women near us who partly drowned out the commentary. After that we sat as far as we could from other passengers. We boarded the bus at the start in Silver Street where there is also the opportunity to take a punt trip. The open top buses have a canopy at the front - very useful in cold weather. The tickets are valid for 24 hours so can be spread over two days.Written February 2, 2019
- Redkitewatcher640 contributionsGreat way to see the city and major sightsWe decided to use the bus to tour the city and see some of the major sights . We bought an online ticket but didn't realise that they had to be printed off to be used. A bit difficult when you are in the town as a day visitor, however with a bit of persuading the driver allowed us on . Although he made a huge effort of having to write out a paper ticket for us. You can see what time the next bus is due by the electronic timetable at the stop and the buses were all running to time. The buses go all around the city and stop at every major tourist attraction. You can get on and off as many times as you like in a 24 hrs period. The only downside to it was it was a recorded commentary , which meant it lacked feeling and did not always correspond with what you were seeing due to traffic delays etc. Also the driver didn't seem to get that when the commentary said to look at something , it would have been good for him to have stopped so you could see. All too often you only had a couple of seconds before he moved on and you missed the attraction . Was a great way to get around town and let someone else deal with the traffic and cyclists .Written December 30, 2018

- Roving4016490 contributionsCity Sightseeing Hop-on Hop-off CambridgeBe warned: The bus driver will NOT accept digital tickets on your mobile phone. You must have printed tickets or you can buy your ticket directly from the driver. We had to go to the public library to print out the tickets that we had bought on-line in advance! Other than that inconvenience, the tour was a good way to get an overview of the town, and the recorded commentary was interesting, though hard to hear at times.Written October 14, 2018
- demanding20160 contributionsA Bus Ride Is Like Seeing In Another Reality Leaving A Lot To The ImaginationOnly having one and a half hours to be in Cambridge it was a good job I per-booked this 80 minute bus tour - it was more than we had expected even though we knew there was 19 stops - that you can get on and off the bus if you want to - as the buses run ever 20 minutes no problems getting on and off as you wish though we decided to stay on and see the full tour - there's a clear voice over speaker explaining what all the building are about historic sites etc - all in all well worth the effort - only one irritating point - was the music that is played in between the voice over same short tune over and over again - good value for the price paid...Written October 3, 2018

We spoke to Julie, our bus driver at the bus stop as she was waiting for the City Sightseeing bus to arrive. Very helpful and knowledgeable, she negotiated the narrowest of streets with ease. The pre-recorderd commentary was informative and entertaining and as it was a warm, sunny afternoon, the open top deck was lovely to sit in. Excellent value and punctual, we would strongly recommend this tour as a great way to spend an hour and twenty minutes.

After having a nightmare booking a tour online from an external tour operator, we found out you could pay on the bus which would have been a whole lot easier. Joanne our driver was extremely helpful regarding a problem we had, as well as being helpful and a laugh.
The tour was informative and good fun although there were a few sights we couldn’t see because of the trees. Great that you can hop on and off whenever you want and that it lasts for 24hrs

Decided to use the hop on bus as they are a good way to find out interesting facts about the city. It was damp day, other passengers were wearing waterproof ponchos which we werent offered either free or to buy. Had no idea where they were from. The pre-recorded talk about the city often leapt ahead or was behind so the point of interest was gone.the driver rewound the recording several times. I was disappointed with this trip dont feel i learnt much at all

After experiencing the open top bus tour in Oxford a few days ago I was very excited to experience a similar tour in Cambridge. After accessing the map online I go to a stop on Downing Street to wait for a bus. After waiting for 20 minutes I realise no bus has turned up. I also find it strange that I have not seen any buses since arrival in the city. I then search the internet to find that sightseeing buses in Cambridge only run on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. Absolutely ridiculous. London, Oxford, Bath, all have sightseeing bus tours everyday of the week but not Cambridge. It’s a shambles. Not everyone travels to Cambridge on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays and thousands of people are missing out on an education about the city. A real shame. I did wonder if the reason for having no bus tours was to try and force tourists to attend the walking tour but I visited the city with an elderly relative so this was not possible.

The tour was interesting but on a cold February day the bus itself was freezing! Had to wait nearly an hour for the bus anyway as one had been cancelled but the real problem was booking via Trip Advisor. If you do this make sure you have access to a printer so can print the ticket off before you go otherwise you won't be able to use it. We were advised by the Tourist Office to use the printers at the library but had to become a member of the library to do so. Quite a time consuming procedure but at least we didn't lose £33! You aren't told you need a printed ticket until after you have bought & paid for it so hope this review helps.

Having arrived at Cambridge station I was pleased to find out that the tour bus stops nearby (down the road to your left as you exit the front of the station) because the station is a mile and a half from the city centre, which saves a long walk if you don't know where you are going. We (me and my pensioner aged Mum) waited at the bus stop which said the buses were every 20 minutes. We waited longer than that though, so don't set much store by the timetable, as it seems to be rather erratic. It is however a very handy way to see the city, including the American Cemetery which is on the outskirts, so is a good way to get out there. We did one full round trip in order to decide the best place to get off to explore the city centre on foot. The ticket for an adult costs £17 and a concession is £14, but it lasts 24 hours from the time of purchase and you can hop on and off as much as you like, and it also gets you a discount on other buses operated by the company in other cities (London, Edinburgh, York and Bath are a few examples) and also gets you discounts at attractions in the city, although personally I didn't take advantage of that particular offer. If you have limited time, or are on a first time visit it's a good way to familiarise yourself with the city

I would start with the one slightly negative point. But it may help other travellers. The ticket you provide can be used to directly enter the bus anywhere on the route it does not need validation before you board. You may need to look at this instruction as we wasted a good hour trying to find our validation point in Silver Street when it was totally unnecessary. Other than that, an excellent service, the buses are every 20 minutes , all the drivers are very helpful and courteous and friendly , and the narration clear and interesting. Would definitely recommend. The tickets last a full 24 hours from first time of alighting, and are also valid on the local bus services. Great value for money.

I have no complaints about the tour itself. It was interesting, the commentary was informative and the tour about the right length at 1 hour 20 minutes. It covered most of the main sights of the city and gave you information that you would not otherwise have known. My main issue was the frequency of the service - one bus every 40 minutes is very infrequent for this type of tour and also buses do not seem to run to a timetable. There is no timetable printed either in the leaflet or on the stops, so when you turn up at the stop you have no idea whether you will be waiting for 5 minutes or 35 minutes for the bus. Needs to be better organised. I would certainly advise buying tickets from the driver rather than in advance, then if the bus doesn't come you can just give up!

Dear valued reviewer,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your experience with our tour. We are delighted to hear that you found the tour itself interesting, with informative commentary, and at an appropriate length to cover the main sights of the city.
However, we deeply regret any inconvenience caused by the frequency of our service and the lack of a printed timetable. Your feedback regarding these issues is invaluable to us, and we apologize for any frustration or uncertainty you experienced as a result.
We understand the importance of reliable and transparent service, and we will certainly take steps to improve the organization and communication of our schedules. Your suggestion of purchasing tickets from the driver as an alternative is duly noted, and we will explore ways to enhance the convenience of ticketing options for our guests.
Once again, please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused, and we thank you for your understanding and valuable feedback. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future and provide you with a more seamless and enjoyable experience.
Warm regards,
Customer Care department.

Easy to use as can pay as you enter the bus rather than buying a ticket at the bus station. Bonus that we had a discount as Senior Citizens.
Upstairs was partially open top/partially covered which was good as our weather is so unpredictable.
Commentary very clear in Enghlish but some alternative languages available through a set of headphones, also given a map to give some guidance.
Used it a couple of times throughout the day although Cambridge is not a big City the commentary did help to distinguish the different colleges.

An excellent way to see a bit of Cambridge and learn some of the history.
I recommend you go all the way round first (1 hr 20 minutes) then choose where to get off. I would definitely recommend getting off at the American memorial.
Also take advantage of the discounted punt. The bus drops you off right next to the river and you can rejoin after.
Buses are only 20 minutes apart so there is never too long a wait for the next bus.
Buses are clean and the drivers polite and friendly.
