We loved our 2 hour tour with this company- but we were lucky that the weather cooperated with us.

First, there is no shade on the boat. NONE. During the first hour of our trip, the clouds provided perfect coverage and my $10E hat helped. But when the sun came out, I was bartering for sunscreen. Plan ahead.

Second, this is a 2 hour+ tour (depending on the Blue Grotto situation) on a small boat, which means no bathrooms and no beverages are available. Luckily, we followed the lead of someone smarter than us and paid a nearby restauant the $.50E to use a bathroom and purchased a large bottle of water prior to boarding.

Third, once you buy your ticket, there is no logical method of lining up or "queue"- instead, the boats (there are several in the fleet) pull up to the dock at random places (there is no "loading" side of the dock) and as they are letting passengers off, people are climbing on as if it is the last boat off of the island. Though we were the first ones on the dock, we missed the first 2 boats because people who purchased their tickets after us bullied their way onto the boats first. It was like being in kindergarten with the pushing and lack of respect of patience and rationale. All in all, we waited for at least 45 minutes trying to get on to a boat even though we were the first ones on the dock.

There is no set number of people who get to go on a boat- some boats took 12, some looked like they look 20....but all boats were the same size. Unfortunately, we had a lot of people pile into our boat, so I think we were closer to 20 people.

Our captain was wonderful- he acknowledged the crazy and said a prayer. He handled some of the more unruly passengers with complete grace and a sense of humor- both of which I was lacking by that time.

As we left the bay, all of the crazy seemed to dissipate as the beautiful coast came into view. The coastline was amazing- everything I thought it would be and more. Completely picture-esque and I took approximately 200 photos to prove it. Our captain pointed out some of the natural features and got us as close to the coast as possible so we could see all of the natural beauty. I am not a nature freak, but it was truly amazing.

When we got to the Blue Grotto, we learned that the grotto had been closed for 5 days due to rain and sea levels and thus the line to get in was 2+ hours long. Our boat put it to vote and decided we wanted to stay to try and get into the grotto. So, we waited. In the sun.

Luckily, the 2 hour wait was only about 55-60 minutes. The tides were a little high and the waves were rather large, which made getting into the grotto more of an adventure than I intended, but we made it into the Blue Grotto and it was breathtaking. Seriously, it was only 5 minutes in said grotto, but it took my breath away.

Unfortunately for a lady on our boat, she was time crunched and was *freaking out about waiting for the Blue Grotto. You would think they would organize boats as to those who want to wait for the Grotto and those that do not, but the cattle call boat-loading prevents that.

We finished the tour, got off of the boat and headed into town for lunch were we stumbled upon the greatest restaurant of my entire 2 weeks in Italy. 2 days later, we were supposed to drive down the Amalfi Coast, but the unseasonable rain caused some rock slides which canceled our tour. Luckily, we had the Capri boat tour and the photos we took to remember the coast.

We have no regrets about our boat tour and if given the opportunity we would do it again, however, we did notice some nicer boats around (multi-level ferry style boats with air conditioning) that seemed to have the same priced tours as ours. If you are planning in advance, I would suggest doing some research to figure out how to get the more comfortable boats- but if you are like us and plan the trip to Capri on a whim, the boat trip was memorable, the photos are beautiful, and the convenience cannot be beat.

TIPS:
1. No shade = bring sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, etc. Plan ahead.
2. Fishing Boat = no bathrooms and no beverages for 2 hours. Plan ahead.
3. Loading dock = chaos. You might need to throw an elbow to get onto the boat.
4. Blue Grotto = worth the $13, even though it is only for the 5 minutes.
5. 2 hours may be 3-4 hours = make sure you have time to sit in the sun and wait for the amazingness that is the Blue Grotto.

This was a great way to see the sights of Capri and I would recommend it for 18 euros, but no matter what promises are made at the dock you Will and I mean Will pay more to get inside the blue grotto. That is if the grotto is open to enter, any wind the night before causes the waves to rise and close the opening. Remember the opening is only over a metre wide and high and if you get in you only spend a couple of minutes in there. How do you get into the grotto when you pull up n the large tour boat, easy you transfer to a small whaler. Is this included in the price NO, they can charge you up to 40 euros for the experience. So you paid the extra for your bucket list activity and que with every other boat to get into the grotto, if it takes more than 45 minutes to get into the grotto the tour boat reserves the right to leave you there and return to port. Think about it, the rest of the tourists want to get on and continue with their day.
Don't get me wrong, this is a great activity and recommended just go in with your eyes open.
Capri lives on tourists and the prices are set for tourists and the rich. A Italian friend of mine said that if they can work out away to charge you for the air you breath they will.

I would recommend this tour for the following reasons: beautiful scenery, reasonably priced and if you are doing a day trip, it will be a good way to see the island.
The reason I gave it a 3 is because of the chaos at the harbour and we were treated very rudely by the staff.
I purchased the ticket online after my research and knew that there will be a long line at the Blue Grotto and to depart prior to 11 am so there will be less wait. We arrived at the harbour at 10 am. There were only a few of us (mostly North Americans) who purchased tickets online. Most local visitors purchased their tickets at the booth. Our tickets indicated that we will be on the first boat out after arriving at the dock. This was not the first time we were in Italy and we know they don't like to line up. It was such chaos in such a small areas and somehow priority was given to the people who purchased at the booth. I asked the man in charge at the dock why we weren't boarded and he yelled back my tickets were "garbage", "useless". I was really upset. So I demanded for an explanation what he meant by "garbage", "useless"??? Did I pay for a "inferior"/"cheaper ticket" or ???
I wasn't aware at that point this man had signaled security (told by my family later).
I consider myself a very gracious traveller and always try to adhere to local "etiquette" and do not have a confrontational personality. I have never "lost" my temper in my 30 years of travelling experience.
My family managed to pull me away and at that point we just go "whatever". We finally boarded the 4th boat after more than an hour of waiting at the harbour. I would like to emphasize I don't mind the line if everybody waits for their turn.
Once the boat pulled away I was mesmerized by the beauty of the scenery!!!
In the end I enjoyed the boat tour and managed to put the negative behind me.
If you don't mind not getting a good narrative from the tour, the long wait(not first come first serve) and the disorderly nature at the harbour, go for it.

Dear Customer, we apologize if you were treated rudely by someone if it was one of our company, but I think it was someone from a cruise ship anchored outside the harbour, given the fact that he had a "security" badge on him (our pier is also the turnaround facilities for cruise liners). Anyway when is a very crowded day we try to do our best, but sometimes, during specific hours of the day in high season, it can happen that we simply have not enough boats to accomodate everyone. When this occurs we normally suspend the sale of the tickets until we have more boats coming back.

Because of the weather (waves) we did not get into Blue grotto so we did only tour around the island. Views were great but we would have expected better guide telling the background and story of the sights . The English of live guide through loudspeakers was very poor.

We came from Amalfi to Capri with a ferry. At the pier you will see the booth where you can buy your tickets. It’s only for the boat tour around Capri and Anacapri. For the blue grotto experience you have to pay right at the spot if it’s open on that day. Our tour was amazing. All commentary was in Italian but my husband translated for me the main points. You can take breathtaking photos and videos. They will take you to see the white, red and green grotto, Faraglioni (the rock formations with the arch- you will go through it with the boat) and other sites (art statue on the rock, villa, lighthouse and caves from far away). When you finally arrive to Blue Grotto, you may choose if you want to pay extra and go in or not (if you are not claustrophobic, don’t even hesitate! It’s magical!). Time-wise it was exactly 2 hours as promised. We left at 12 and came back at 2 PM. My advice is to take sunglasses and a hat and apply sunscreen because you are going to be exposed to sun at all times. And have comfortable clothing and shoes because if you do the Blue Grotto, you gonna have to climb out of the boat you are in to the smaller one and lay on the bottom of it. Also, you may get a little bit wet from the waves.

What a con, said the tour would be two hours, we asked that the Blue Grotto was open and they confirmed YES.
When we got to the Blue Grotto they said to many boats and that the queue is too long, they had no intention of stopping at all.
This was the only reason we did the tour and was why we went to Capri.
The tour only lasted 1 hour and 15 minutes.
I spoke to the operator and information desk and they didn't really care at all.

End October 2019

When I booked this tour for E19 I was told we would only go past the Blue Grotto due to high tide but would see the others. Didn't matter to me.

I was expecting a small ferry but we got a water taxi type boat similar to those in Venice. No safety vests, wooden seating around the boat and the captain steering in the middle. Was sitting very low in the water. We were 15 people plus the skipper.

It was an adventure to say the least! Super choppy at times, but I don't mind that but it was clear some were scared and held on for dear life. There was plenty to see and photograph. We even saw how they get the diving instructor and their dingy back by pulling it along behind us.

Commentary was in English and Italian only.

It is advertised for 1.5hrs, but went for almost 2, so make sure you have enough time to make your ferry home.

Most of the better photo opportunities were for those sitting on the right side of the skipper. *Keep an eye out for - the tiny Jesus, little mermaid waving and the lighthouse.

Clothing: I highly recommend a hat, wind jacket, scarf and sun screen.
Camera: definitely, I kept my phone well away as I was too worried that it would fall in the ocean.
Tips: some gave and some didn't

I would highly recommend the end of day tour as we got our moneys worth despite not seeing the Blue Grotto.

Very disappointing. Cruise was okayish, nothing special but only booked to see Blue Grotto.

When we arrived at Blue Grotto there was a couple of other boats waiting. The captain then said if you want to see Blue Grotto it will be at least an hour and you’ll all get sea sick. Clearly had no intention whatsoever of stopping. Did a quick show of hands of who wanted to wait. Those who hadn’t been bullied into saying no, were told he’d drop them onto a different boat but they’d have no way of getting back to the dock! Quite a choice we had.

So off we went, arrived back 30 mins early off a tour to see Blue Grotto which we didn’t. No apology, no refund, no offer to try again at different date.

We booked the trip on-line to avoid the queues and arrived by an early ferry on 7th June. The website said to arrive with our ticket at any time from 09:30 and we arrived promptly and on time. Three of your boat crew were sitting and chatting to each other. When I presented my ticket to them they said to come back at 10 o’clock. I was concerned that our ticket said 09:30 and when I pointed this out, the older of the three looked me in the face and held up 10 fingers, saying "10! 10! 10!, don’t you know what 10 means?”

I was shocked by his rudeness and we left and returned at 10.

The trip round the island was poor. The young man giving the commentary was not interested in the passengers and simply imparted information when not otherwise constantly looking at his phone. When we arrived at the Blue Grotto, he immediately said “look at all those boats, we are not going to be able to wait in line for the blue grotto boats”. He took a hands-up vote and got 20 people who wanted to wait but he said this was not enough and we left without getting to see the blue grotto. I do not believe that the amount of boats waiting would have been a surprise to him and I don’t think we ever had any intention of stopping. We were told we could go back on another boat trip later in the day to go directly to the blue grotto. Our trip lasted approx 80 minutes.

We did go back later in the day but our experience on that boat wasn’t much better. The captain was more interested in eating his food and showing photos on his phone to an Italian couple than in getting us on board the little rowing boats that take you into the blue grotto. We did get to see the Blue Grotto (it was amazing) but waited over an hour to get on a little rowing boat while other boats came and went.

We have asked for and received a refund.

So in conclusion - if you want a tour where the staff are rude, unhelpful, disinterested and uncommunicative and where you do not receive what is promised, then this is the tour for you. Otherwise I recommend choosing one of the smaller companies where there is likely to be a more personal service.

My husband and I and my sister and brother-in-law visited Capri on Saturday, September 22, 2018. We were staying in Sorrento, and had taken a day trip to Capri, primarily to visit the Blue Grotto, as the experience sounded like it was going to be magical. After reading reviews on TripAdvisor, and doing our research, we knew that Motoscafisti and Laser were the two boat tour companies that offered boat tours around Capri that included stops at the Blue Grotto and that gave passengers a chance to take the rowboat ride into the grotto.

We bought our tickets for the Motoscafisti tour, which included the stop at the Blue Grotto, from a woman wearing the Motoscafisti uniform, and who took our payment in a local shop not far from the pier. We were assured that our tickets included the stop at the Blue Grotto. (We later heard that we should have bought the tickets directly from company staff at the pier, but we don't believe that had we done so, it would have made any difference in what ultimately happened.)

The boat tour around Capri was fine, but the captain did not provide any explanation in English of anything that we were seeing, except sometimes just the name of the feature, and sometimes not even that. As such, it was really more of a ride around Capri, rather than a "tour." One of the passengers on our boat became seasick about 1/3 of the way into the trip, and she moved to the back of the boat, where she remained unwell for the balance of the trip. This may have played a part in what happened later, but we are not sure, as no explanation was ever provided.

The boat approached the Blue Grotto toward the end of the trip. We slowed down, the captain got on the radio, spoke with someone, and then continued driving the boat past the grotto, and onward to the pier where we started. We asked the captain if we were not supposed to stop at the Blue Grotto, and he said that we were not stopping, with no further explanation. I (mistakenly) asked him if it was because the seas were rough, and he yessed me. We were livid.

When we returned to shore, we immediately went back to the woman who sold us the tickets. We asked her if boats were going into the grotto (as far as she knew, yes), and if the seas were rough (not that she knew of). We then asked her to please explain why our boat did not stop at the Blue Grotto. She pleaded ignorance and told us to go talk to the employees from the boat. At this point, it was after 3pm, and we had to board a 5pm boat back to Sorrento (as that was the latest boat available).

I walked to the Laser Boat Tour counter (Motoscafisti's competitor), and asked the gentleman if boats were entering the Blue Grotto. Yes, they were entering, he said. Are the seas rough today, I asked. No, the seas are fine, he replied. After Laser's staff heard me declare to my party that Motoscafisti staff had lied to us, they told us that they could take us to the Blue Grotto, make sure that they got us in, and could get us back in time to get us on our boat to Sorrento. Not wanting to walk away without having the Blue Grotto experience, and knowing that we were not going to have this opportunity again, we laid out more money for the Laser Tour tickets. Laser made good on its word, although it was busy at the grotto, and we had to wait a good long time to get on a rowboat. We made it back in the nick of time, and got our boat to Sorrento. Oh, and by the way, guess who was waiting to get his passengers into the Blue Grotto ahead of us? That's right...the same Motoscafisti captain who refused to give us the experience we paid for.

Was the Blue Grotto experience worth all the time and money that we spent for it? I still feel that it was an amazing experience. The problem is that, because Motoscafisti staff never bothered to even explain why we didn't stop, failed to offer a solution when it was clear that we were upset that we passed the Grotto by, and claimed ignorance when we confronted them after we got back to shore, the amazing Blue Grotto experience is now tainted with feelings of bitterness and anger that we were taken advantage of. This company should be ashamed of itself for ripping people off the way it does.

Dear customer, all I can say is that we ALWAYS give a FREE ride to Grotta Azzurra if our island tour does not stop there for any reason (generally because of long queue).
