About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Caroline S0 contributionsWhat a trip!Amazing day. The crew were super helpful and friendly. Only 6 others on board. I had my 5 year old daughter with me and they looked out for her and helped her when needed. Super kind. Recommend to anyone.Written September 25, 2024
- Dazzler0030 contributionsAmazing 3 day Liveaboard around KomodoWow!!!! What an amazing experience!! We booked a 3 day and 2 night liveaboard to see Komodo and surrounding islands. We are a family of 5 that includes 3 children aged 9, 6 and 4 years old. From start to finish, the trip was amazing. We were messaged by Yudi the day before to confirm pick up time and subsequently collect as planned. The Boat. Just amazing!! The crew were superb and couldn’t do enough to help us and the children. They catered for our families need, making sure the kids had life jackets and small masks for snorkelling. Food was great (my wife is a vegetarian) and certainly plentiful!! Cabins were clean and in good order. Children loved living on the boat for 3 days and very upset to say goodbye to the crew. The Guide. Our guild was a man call Bertho who was a pleasure to be with. He tailored the trip so that the children had an experience of a lifetime. He was so friendly and knowledgeable, clearly passionate about the area. He was particularly helpful when introducing the kids to snorkelling, pleased to say that they came away with a new passion!! He catered for all our needs and made sure we had an amazing experience. Itinerary. Wow!!! Perfect experience. Snorkelling was breathtaking, crystal clear waters with beautiful corals and abundant of sea life. Highlights were definitely snorkelling with manta rays!! In addition we saw turtles and dolphins swimming around the boat. Komodo island was beautiful and seeing the Komodo Dragons was a memory of a lifetime. The guides were excellent and again so knowledgeable. The other islands were equally spectacular and the golden sand beaches picture perfect. In addition, the ‘flying fox’ bat exodus was spectacular. I’m short, we booked a holiday of a lifetime and we’re not disappointed. Thank you to the whole team for giving the family memories to cherish. 5 star +Written July 27, 2024
- RickinNYC0 contributionsFantastic Sunset TourI booked the Sunset at Komodo tour through TripAdvisor, and I couldn’t be more pleased with everything. The itinerary included stops at Kelor Island, Manjarite Beach, Rinca Island (where the Komodo dragons are), and a sail along Kalong Island to see the flying foxes/bats during the sunset. The itinerary was executed exactly as stated. I was picked up at my hotel at 11am. We stopped to pick up guests at other hotels before making our way to the harbor . We were swiftly shown to our comfortable boat for our group of 15 passengers. The boat was large enough to accommodate everyone, and we never felt crowded. Additionally, there were two bathrooms, which included showers for washing up after the beach. Very comfortable. Our guides were informative, friendly, and always more than willing to take pictures when asked. The highlights of the tour for me were the stops at Rinca Island where we saw dragons, and watching the Flying Foxes during sunset. Simply stunning. From start to finish, professional. I was back at my hotel around 7:30pm. I would definitely recommend this tour with Explorcation. *****Written July 7, 2024
- Brunsky4200 contributionsAwesome! Awesome! Awesome! It was great experience and my favourite trip so far! Everything was great, tour guides were extremely helpful and friendly, on first stop we did some trekking and snorkeling - we saw baby sharks!!!! Second stop great snorkeling and beautiful surroundings. Last stop kalong island watchibg sunset and flying foxes. Breathtaking and surreal experience. So happy we did this tour!!!Written June 14, 2024
- kezchiz44440 contributionsAwesome day on a speed boat in Rinca and KelangGreat trip combination - all timed for the least busiest times. Rinca and Kelang Island truly awesome. However in retrospect I wouldn’t go on the hill hike at the first island. Too treacherous for the view. Wish I’d snorkelled there instead! Alex took good care of us especially when snorkelling on the second island. He took our GoPro and took some wonderful footage of a hawksbill tearing up the coral. Tomas and Gerry good too.Written June 10, 2024
- kenb4140 contributionsPadar Island. The scenery is stunning. You can walk to the top of Padar Island, beware although it is not too high, it is quite a tough walk in the heat.Written May 17, 2024
- simonjdrummond0 contributionsKomodo Dragons, the giant lizards and Manta Ray, the graceful giants of the ocean.Long day, busy day, but ticking a number of boxes on the bucket list. First trip to Indonesia and really wanted to see the amazing Komodo Dragons. Not disappointed, saw about 10 in the National Park. Even better for me on the day, was the snorkelling with 6 or 7 giant Manta Ray, just wish I had an underwater camera. Great memories and stunning scenery. Fantastic coral reefs, teeming with life, at several snorkelling stops that day. Great trip.Written February 12, 2024
- DharmaBum19650 contributionsMixed experienceI booked this trip because it appeared to give the longest time on Komodo of the many advertised. However, we were on Komodo for 90 minutes, 20+ of which were in the market. The ‘trek’ claimed to be 2.5 km but 40 minutes of slow walking does not cover that distance, especially with stops. On the plus side, we saw juvenile and adult dragons, although the latter were surrounded by tourists with guides encouraging the ‘look at me touching a Komodo dragon’ shot. The other stops were mixed: Padar has great views; pink beach has great snorkelling, as does the snorkelling stop after Komodo; Manta Point would probably be great if there were mantas, not if there are not (not complaining, as obviously these are wild animals; and the final stop was unnecessary, especially with rain coming. Staff on the boat were great and lunch, snacks and drinks were good. Overall, pleased I did it but wish there was a trip that went to Komodo only and spent a decent time there.Written December 6, 2023
- emmasT4185JF0 contributionsA fun Pedal/Paddle/Peak!We really enjoyed this! Our driver Ubie (not sure if I have spelled that correctly) picked us up from our hotel in Seminyak at 7:30am and took us on the long drive up to the North Bali area. Only 60-odd kms but it took about 2 hours due to the sheer amount of traffic on the roads (and it gets pretty twisty once you get up into the hills). Once we arrived we met Eddie, our guide for the day. He explained that we'd be doing pedal-paddle-peak rather than peak-paddle-pedal, for reasons that were soon made quite obvious. The first cycling part was practically all downhill, and we're talking some extremely steep declines where we were on the brakes a lot. It would have been extremely difficult to cycle up those hills! After we got to the bottom we continued on the bikes through a lush rainforest (the off-road tyres on the bikes came in handy here) before making our way past a couple of temples and to Tamblingan lake. From there we paddled across the lake (sore arms by the end!) for a quick look at another temple, before starting our trek back up through a different part of the rainforest. Eddie pointed out different plants and trees and happily answered all of our questions as we wandered through a pristine setting, only interrupted by a few other tour groups coming past the other way. After about an hour of walking around on fairly level ground we finally started the last part of the hike, which was pretty much just going up to get back to near where we started. We emerged back onto a main road right near a restaurant where we thankfully were able to sit down and rest and had a delicious meal of chicken and rice. After lunch Ubie drove us all to the nearby waterfall where we spent 15 minutes or so taking pictures (beautiful setting), before dropping off Eddie and driving back to Seminyak. A wonderful day out seeing a different part of Bali. Things to note: - Wear comfortable shoes. Cycling and paddling parts were pretty easy but hiking up the hill was challenging in parts. There are guide ropes/structures in certain places to help but you don't want to do this in sandals/thongs. - Eat a decent breakfast beforehand, or take a snack. We got picked up at 7:30am and ate lunch at around 1pm (Eddie got us some fruit from a local seller which we ate mid-morning). You will be hungry (and sweating) by the time you finish the uphill part of the walk. - Wear sunscreen and take some water. You'll be in the shade for quite a decent part going through the rainforest areas, but you'll still see a lot of sun during the day. Eddie gave us a 600ml bottle of water each, but we went through those plus another 1L bottle between us. - Take a little cash with you. Lunch is included - and really tasty - but drinks were extra. We bought two cokes to have with lunch which was $IDR 20,000 ($AU 2.00). Also it might be nice to tip the canoe pilot/Ubie/Eddie a little something for their work over the day. - Be prepared for a long day. 2 hours in the car to get there, 6 hours of activity + lunch, 2 hours to get back to the hotel (if you are staying in Seminyak). You won't be getting back until 5pm or so.Written October 21, 2023
- RebeccaC6960 contributionsGreat to see what Labuan Bajo has to offerOk let me start by saying how helpful the team at Explorcation were. My flight was delayed so I was arriving in Labuan a day late. I whatsapped Explorcation and the without hesitation moved the date of my excursion and offered to collect us from airport, with all our luggage, done the day, then dropped us off at the hotel afterwards We started the day with a prompt collection. The tour is private so just my husband and I, a guide and a driver. Our order of schedule was slightly different to advertised. We started with a quick photo stop at the viewpoint. We next headed to batu cermin cave. You have another guide show you around the cave with fossils and history. Unfortunately, we were too early to see the mirror effect. However we still thoroughly enjoyed it as we love geology. We then get a boat over to rangok . We swam inside the lake in the cave and absolutely loved it. There were quite a few tourists when We arrived but once they left we had about 15 mins to ourselves. We then had some time on the beach and swimming in the sea. Our guide was lovely, super helpful. He never rushed us at all. We could safely leave our luggage in the car with the driver. We opted to not stop for lunch as we weren’t hungry and after 3 days of travelling wanted to go to our hotel. This was a great start to our Indonesian tripWritten September 30, 2023
- A5948KCnathaliec0 contributionsnice but should improveA bit sad that the first stop to see the fishes was on a spot where most of the corals are dead so not much fishes. Disapointed that we did not stop at the second spot to do snorkeling, so we arrived much earlier on the spot to see the Komodo dragon and could have seen much more of them one hour later as they were begining to go out when we left as the sun was lower. Also if we stopped at the second spot of snorkeling we wouldn't have had to wait 1h30 to see the sunset in a place were there was not much to do as to wait. the staff was barely friendly. So i will say, very expensive for what we get.Written September 25, 2023
- Extraordinary7940400 contributionsIsland hoppingThis tour group provided transportation from and to our resort, has an amazing staff which informed about each island stop and was accomodating throughout the trip. The boat is clean and comfortable. The trip seemed lengthy though. Two of the island stops could be avoided. Instead more time could be spent snorkling at the reefs viewing various fish and sea animals.Written September 24, 2023

- MichaelA2490 contributionsMemorable day on tour with ExplorcationSuch a memorable day with the Explorcation crew. The day was fun, entertaining and educational. This is one of the few tours that views dragons at the closer Rinca island rather than the more distant Komodo island. We were lucky to see multiple dragons in the wild, buffalo, deer and a wild horse. The guide on Rinca was very knowledgeable with a good sense of humour. We felt safe with main guide and a secondary to keep an extra eye out for rogue dragons. Big thanks to our main tour guide Alex who entertained, informed and coordinated the trip. Alex has the personality that can light a room!Written September 20, 2023
- RebeccaC6960 contributionsLovely adventureI initially booked with Exploration, but later realized they use a third-party operator, D-Tours, for Komodo tours. Booking directly with D-Tours can save you money. However, the booking process with Exploration was straightforward. Their quick WhatsApp responses, usually within 3 minutes, made it convenient. When we faced unexpected flight delays to Labuan Bajo, they seamlessly rearranged our tours without any hassle. I messaged them on WhatsApp, explained the situation, and they promptly responded with, "No worries, this has been sorted," which greatly eased my stressful situation. What an incredible day! It was notably less tiring than the full-day Komodo tour we slid had done. Our group was delightfully smaller, with only 13 fellow adventurers on our trip. The first hike was quite challenging, with steep terrain and somewhat questionable steps. It's important to note that this portion may not be suitable for individuals with limited mobility. The Rinca Island tour offered a unique experience compared to the Komodo Island tour. We gained valuable insights into the lives of the dragons and were fortunate to observe many of them in their natural habitat. The snorkeling spot was situated to the east and boasted shallow waters, making it accessible and enjoyable for all. The boat staff and guides truly exceeded our expectations. They not only provided excellent service but also willingly took stunning photos for us and guided us to the most picturesque spots. The flying foxes, are giant bats, were an absolute spectacle to behold. It added an unexpected and memorable element to our adventure. Overall, it was a fabulous day out that we would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone seeking an unforgettable experience.Written September 3, 2023

It's a great place to check on Waerebo Village. We started by our private small bus, and then continued a bit by motor bike then hike for 1.5 hours up. It's a bit slippery when wet so be very careful. My husband fell down and hurt his hips. DO NOT stay over night there - its very basic, You sleep in a big room w/20 people from all over the world on a mat and wooden floor. You eat together with them. There is only 2 bathroom and one squat toilet for all. No hot water so prepared to take a cold shower on a wet floor with a bucket. I can't even brush my teeth -saving my drinking water to brush in the morning. Did not sleep well, too hard and sleeping with 20 people from all over the world? Food served is OK rice and pieces of chicken. Morning - rice and omelette + their well known coffee. Can't wait to go back to decent hotel. Motor bike ride for 7 km(?) was good - reminds of school days.
Do take a day trip and start early so you will be down by evening. Don't stay over night. All the foreigner NONE want to use the restroom or bathroom. It's ICKY....!
The view is very nice, misty, foggy and there is a friendly brown dog called RUNNER. He goes out with the men when they visit the forest. Waerebo is beautiful but I would not stay a night there. You can make it in a day.
