About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- stevensT5103FP0 contributionsMust do stop in La Fortuna. So much wildlife to see. The rainforest is a magical place. We bought tickets ahead of time and decided to add the option to hire a guide. On arrival, there was plenty of free parking. There are clean restrooms near the ticket window. We were told to meet at a central location with the other tours. Our group had 10 people. We took numerous tours throughout Costa Rica and felt this was too large a group. It was difficult to hear the tour guide when we were in the back of the line. He did his best to find animals, but when the scope was up, the animals were gone by the time the last people got a turn to see through it. He answered all our questions. He offered to take family pictures throughout the park. During the tour, he took pictures through the scope before we looked through it. He transferred those pictures to us at the end. He was very knowledgeable but not very enthusiastic. He seemed bored giving the tour. The hanging bridges were fun. They swung and moved a lot just from people walking. The park limited how many were on each time, so it wasn’t overwhelmingly crowded. We were not rushed across any of the bridges and therefore expect a wait to cross each bridge. We really enjoyed our hike through this park. The trails are paved and have some climbs and descents involved. But the views of the rain forest were incredible. We saw quite a bit of wildlife, too! While the guide was a minimal cost, we didn’t feel it added much. I don’t think a guide is necessary. You can stop and see animals whenever another group stops to watch them. Allow 1 1/2 hours or 2 1/2 hours with a guide. This is a must do activity when visiting La Fortuna.Written February 17, 2025
- Robert C0 contributionsAmazing timeFantastic experience Roberto the guide was great, very knowledgeable about the wild live finding the most amazing creature's. The bridge's are great and unbelievable. The whole time was really good and really worth getting a guide.Written February 16, 2025
- thconstructivecritic0 contributionsGreat tour with knowledgeable guideWe caught a red eye flight from Los Angeles and then drove 3 hours to La Fortuna. The hanging bridges tour in mistico park was perfect while waiting for hotel check in. Roberto was an incredible guide. No way you should do this tour without a guide! Roberto was an incredibly knowledgeable guide as well as a biologist. He had excellent photography skills as well and he shared all of his amazing photos with our group. I would swear he studied biology as he shared so much information with us. We were lucky to see howler monkeys, fer-de-lance venomous snake, bats, hummingbirds. The bridges were also amazing (note: a little dizzying for those with vertigo). Lots of walking, good exercise.Written February 15, 2025
- susaneP4006LA0 contributionsBeautiful nature hike.Great way to see the rain forest from above, the view is beautiful. Along with beautiful foliage we also got to see several white-face capuchin monkeys playing in the trees. The guide was also very knowledgeable.Written February 14, 2025
- seansS8095SA0 contributionsHanging BridgesEasy tour of the arenal area. We did the full tour (guided) as it was our first day. Gabriel was great and knowledgeable about fauna and animals. Definitely was able to find animals and plants we would have missed on our own. Bridges are neat and have nice views. Paths of 2+ km trail are well kept (paved) and one way in/one way out. Could easily manage without guide, but again will miss information and things. Worth the visit.Written February 14, 2025
- janelW837WJ0 contributionsShort Ride to Great ViewThe tour guides were attentive at matching horses to riders and leading us up the trail. Understandably the horses are extremely familiar with the route. One of the guides pointed out attractions and took pictures using our cameras. While we enjoyed the view of the lake and volcano, the time at the viewpoint is a little too long and actually boring. The route back to the barn is exactly the same as the way we came up. Didn't see anything new. We would have enjoyed a different route down the hill.Written February 11, 2025
- BostonInAustin0 contributionsThe top highlight of our Costa Rica tripThis was the best part of our visit to the area around La Fortuna / Arenal. We arrived at 7am and it was quiet and uncrowded with great parking. Saw many monkeys. Loved the bridges, the views, and the amazing nature around us. When we left about two hours later, the parking lot / reception area was much busier, but not crazy, although the close parking lot was full. This was a Friday morning. Highly recommend. No guide needed.Written February 8, 2025
- lindalL5211OT0 contributionsOkHanging bridges were interesting and the guide was great, Julio. I was disappointed not to see wildlife as I was told there would be some. Nice day though.Written February 6, 2025
- 511randyf0 contributionsEasy Hanging Bridges and Hosrseback tours near Arenal Volcano. This a a great hanging bridges park outside of La Fortuna. The park is beautiful, and the staff and entire operation are first rate. We did the self-guided hanging garden tour, and the guided horseback ride at Paco's, which is part of the park. They were both fantastic excursions. We had lunch at the onsite restaurant, which was good and reasonable value, combined with a fantastic view of the Arenal Volcano.Written February 6, 2025
- O1785QMbenp0 contributionsGreat place, poor guide.Great path and bridges over and around dense forest. Loads of interesting birds and plants and trees. Pity about our guide Carlos who was patronising and condescending to people.Written February 4, 2025
- Julie Keller P0 contributionsFascinating. Great views!Fascinating walk and great views. It is essential to take a guided tour, as one would miss much of the wildlife without it, not to mention the extensive knowledge imparted by the guide. It is definitely a popular activity and the only downside is the crowds on the trail.Written February 4, 2025
- darinc2850 contributionsYou gotta do this! This was an amazing experience and so much fun! Beautiful views of the volcano and the best coconut water I’ve ever tasted. The horses were well trained and being a novice rider I never felt uncomfortable on my horse, Escorpión.Written February 4, 2025
- thomaspX9252WE0 contributionsPassionate hanging bridges tourTour guide José shared his passion with the great wildlife the park has to offer with authentic enthousiasm, humor and knowledge. What a joy to spend time in this marvelous landscape with such a genuine person!Written February 3, 2025
- Z601LCerikd0 contributionsVery worthwhile hike on a marvelous path through the rainforest.Wow was that fun and a beautiful hike to boot. Tons of flora and thanks to our guide some fauna as well. On that note José was wonderful. Jovial and full of energy he gave us excellent info and lovely photos to share amongst the five of us!Written February 3, 2025
- djfranks0 contributionsGreat tour of the rainforest. Great fun on the bridges. We had an excellent tour at Mistico Park Hanging Bridges with our guide Julio. We were in a group of 8 - that’s as big as I’d want for this tour. It was slim pickings for the animals but saw birds, insects, sloth. The top of the volcano was visible and we had great views to it at the park reception and on the trail. The rain forest and hanging bridges are worth the trip alone. Highly recommend this tour!Written February 2, 2025

We did not visit during their regular hours. This review is for the night walk tour only.
I highly recommend this tour especially if you have teens. We saw things we wouldn’t have seen otherwise. Highlights were red eye tree frogs, glass frog and mask frogs. We also saw a jumping pit viper, lots of different spiders, scorpions, and bugs. Watching an orb spider catch things in its web was fascinating. There was a point where we turned off lights and just listened to the sounds of the jungle at night. Very cool. Our guide, Andres, was very knowledgeable and kind and we felt very safe. Each group that booked had their own tour guide, which I wasn’t expecting. They kept the groups very small, which was nice.
If you have little kids, the night tour might be a little scary for them unless they are way into spiders, lizards, snakes and frogs. But my teenagers loved it. And I t’s one of the few things to do in the evening so it was a good use of time (I think we were there around 5:30-7:30 or somewhere around there).

As a first time visitor to Costa Rica I would describe the Mistico Hanging Bridges Nocturnal Walk as prestigious. Our tour guide was pleasant and explained the many exotic creatures our group managed to see. He included everyone and really seemed to listen to questions and statements of others. I’d create new accounts to give this place five stars infinite times, even give it eight stars if I could.

We were lucky enough to be the only people on the night tour for the evening we booked. This wasn’t an issue for our guide Roberto and so we set off in search of nocturnal wildlife.
Within minutes we’d had our first sightings. Roberto was an excellent guide and could spot things we’d never have even noticed….which as it happens is essential on a night tour as most of the animals encountered are not cute and cuddly by any stretch of the imagination.
Roberto said night tours were about being in the right place at the right time and with his expert guidance, we were! We had a bumper night of sightings, even Roberto said it was the best night he’d had for a long time! We saw vipers, including a Fer de Lance, spiders, including a tarantula and a Brazilian wandering Spider, frogs, including the red eyed tree frog and a reticulated glass frog, armadillos, birds and a whole host of other insects.
We had a great experience on this tour and found it fascinating. We would highly recommend it.

Super, super cool. Our guide, Gabriel, was knowledgable, enthusiastic, and clearly passionate about the nature we were seeing. We got to see some very rare and venomous snakes, which was SO cool!
Extremely different wildlife at night, so we were very glad to be able to see such cool nature!
The *only* small quibble I had with the experience was that the park itself provided some fairly shoddy flashlights, both to us and to Gabriel. Luckily, there was one super bright one that let us see all the good stuff, but I do wish I'd had a better flashlight.
Definitely catch this if you're a nature lover!

The tour was excellent. I think our guides name was Francisco. He was extremely knowledgeable, very observant, and despite the rainy and rather cool weather, we found several different species. I highly recommend the tour, especially if you’re interested in critters.

We had Gabriel as our tour guide. I highly recommend him. There were three of us total me and my adult daughter and a solo explorer. Gabriel is extremely passionate and knowledgeable. He answered every question and it was easy to catch his enthusiasm. We came across a poisonous snake a Fer de lance. Gabriel had already explained how dangerous it could be. He gave the snake a wide berth and huge respect - enough that we understood how deadly it can be. We saw amazing insects and frogs, a sleeping hummingbird, and also yellow eyelash viper. We could not have seen any without Gabriel.
We crossed two of the hanging bridges - fun and scary at the same time.
If I could go back, I’d definitely ask for Gabriel again.

We took the night tour on a very rainy night & it was fabulous! Our guide, Bernardo, was knowledgable and friendly. My husband had forgotten an important item & the staff went above & beyond to make sure he could still join the tour. In spite of the downpour, we saw many insects, spiders, lizards, tarantulas, an anteater, beautiful tree frogs, and nocturnal birds, along with unusual tropical rainforest plants. I DID NOT like going across the 2 hanging bridges, but Bernardo and the rest of the group were very patient with me and my slow shaky steps. I survived :) ! (The rest of the bridges were very solid.) Make sure to take a raincoat, closed-toe shoes and long pants. A billed cap would have been handy to help keep the rain off my glasses. The night tour is well worth it, and bravo to Bernardo!

Shout out to Carlos first and foremost for being a spectacular guide on our night hike at MĂstico park. We went through during a rainy Friday evening but he kept an upbeat, adventurous attitude that was contagious for all of us as we searched for animals. Our group was very small which was enjoyable. We got to see frogs, a possum, a peccary, a pit viper, a velvet worm and many other animals. The tour took roughly two hours and we learned so much by the end of it regarding animals we had only seen in documentaries.

Guide was great with our group. We went right after a massive rainstorm. The guide also took a bunch of photos and airdropped them to everyone after. He was a very good photographer on top of that too. Highly recommend.

Bernardo was an amazing and well versed guide. My husband and I went on a damp Wednesday night and it was our first tour in La Fortuna and was well worth it! We basically had a private tour (the two of us plus another person). We took tons of pics, saw a grey putto (rare bird), Costa Rican tree frog, bull frog, tarantulas, baby pit viper, Katy-dids, Olingo, and tons of other animals/insects.
The trail is paved so is easy for the whole family! Also Bernardo informed us that this part of the tour is accessible for the mobility challenged, definite plus for anyone with friends and family using canes, walkers, wheelchairs.
Enjoy!
