    Must-do cultural tour
One of the best & most memorable experiences we had in Cape Town. My wife & I joined Juma and guide Abby on a tour of Khayelitsha, focusing on street art and meeting young artists and touring informal neighborhoods and talking to residents. Very enlightening and meaningful. You have not fully experienced South Africa until you have experienced township life. Well worth it.

    Culturally unmolested tours
Arranged a 1 on 1 private with concierge at my hotel. The tour was amazing. Went to a Sunday church service, visited a local souvenir shop owned by women and went to a Braai barbecue mall, food was delicious. Highly recommend creating your own personal tours.

    Must do!
Such an incredible experience! This truly is the way to get to know South Africa. Our guide was Aby, and she was extremely nice, resourceful, helpful, and fun. One of the highlights of our trip.

Best experience of 2 months Cape Town!
If you're thinking about doing a township tour but not sure for whatever reason, do it! I contacted Juma because I needed respondents for my masters thesis in Khayelitsha. At first, I was a bit hesitant because I had heard a few negative stories about the township and I was planning booking the tour as a girl alone. However, my worries turned out to be unnecessary! Juma is wonderful person and as described on the website, he promotes sustainable tourism. Therefore, it was very important to him that the people we would speak to that day, would be left behind in a good state. For me, this meant that after the interviews I would give the families a financial compensation for their efforts. Once in the township, he showed me all the good parts (which are unfortunately less known), stayed with me the whole day, helped me with connecting to 7 wonderful respondents and translate their answers and explained me all the details of the daily life and the built environment of Khayelitsha. There was no moment where I felt unsafe and I think you can't go to Cape Town without visiting a township (with a guide such as Juma). The city center is nice, but in these places the real people live their daily lives. I will never forget this experience. Thanks so much Yuma!!

    Interesting experience with lovely people
We got to know Khayelitsha through the experience of the people that live there and contribute to the community. Their stories, their Ubuntu lifestyle, their passion and creativty, are very inspiring! We felt very welcome and left with a warm heart.

    Couldn't be better
We contacted Juma through his website and arranged to combine a township tour with the nightlife tour. We also asked him to arrange transportation from our Airbnb, which he did at a very reasonable rate. Juma is a serial entrepreneur. In addition to his tour company, he has two bicycle shops, a sandwich shop and several other small businesses in Khayelitsha. He starts the business, gets it going, hires local people to run it, and does it again. He empowers the people to take risks and try things out. He is developing entrepreneurs. But his most visible enterprise is street art and gardens. Nomonte, our guide, is a young woman, born in Khayelitsha, dynamic and enthusiastic about the future. Juma and his crew have been painting the corrugated metal houses to decorate, reflect the culture, train the artists and protect the houses from rust. We were on the ground here, and stopped in people's houses to see how they live. It was an eye opening experience, one that every visitor to Cape Town should see. And Juma's tours are the best way to do this.

    Unforgettable Experience in Khayelitsha
A tour with Juma Art Tours is the way to go. From start to finish, my experience was unforgettable and meaningful. Seeing how Juma has taken his passion, vision and creativity for his community in Khayelitsha was powerful—bringing art, cycling, education and lots of love to everything he does. Meeting incredibly talented artists was a huge highlight. Nomonde provided so much insight during her portion of the tour. She was friendly, professional, open and honest. And seeing Maninzi’s art throughout the community and then meeting him in person was amazing. Don’t miss this opportunity to be welcomed into this growing community. Lastly, shuttle service is available, which I highly recommend. Ishmael was able to get me to and from Khayelitsha with ease, and I learned a lot from him.

    An eye opener
An eye opener. Great to see a young vibrant community with art as their first love. We were shown around the township. Had an an excellent coffee at Siki's Kofee Kafe. How hie has turned his moms garage into an enterprising business. Also how people live in the COVID world with a whole level of shacks - level1- being built to house otherwise homeless people. Felt safe and secure at all times. Nomonde was a top guide. Perfect English with an excellent knowledge of her surroundings and environment. Her brother is the main artist and we went to their house to see how they lived in the community. A real eye opener.

    Optimism in the Township
We were given a very individual tour by the young people who are working very hard to make Khayalitsha a happy place and give the children chance to to prosper in what is a difficult environment. We learned about the history and growth of Kayalitsha and daily life in the township. Extensive discussion with Juma and his merry band of followers gave a realistic view of the challenges and mostly of the positive attitude and actions of the group. A very worthwhile tour that was conducted on a equal footing. Thank you very much

Scores high for bringing out the community and livelihood of Khayelitsha
Juma is the man! When you walk around Khayelitsha with him and the other Juma tour leads, you feel the sense of community they describe in the preface to the tour. Juma points out the art and experiences that visiting and resident artists and he, himself, has brought to the community to brighten up homes and public spaces. The shops he runs are also a boon to the community. If he offers to take you around on a bike, I recommend that over walking. You’ll see more on the bike than you can see in the same timeframe on foot.

This was an excellent way to visit Khayelitsha and see the amazing work going on in the community. Beautiful street art and fun experience with Storyroom Creatives. Siki's Koffee Kafe is the place to be!

AMAZING EXPERIENCE AND GREAT TOUR GUIDE
I was fortunate enough to go on a educational tour with Juma's Art Tour. It was a worthwhile experience which I highly rate and recommend. The tour was very informative, educative, and fun. Our tour guide Zachariah was great in explaining all the amazing art we saw on tour and the explanations and stories which goes with it was mind-blowing. Thank you Juma and Zachariah for a great tour and experience. I will definitely be back for more! One Love

The best tour ever with Juma
Together with Juma we went on a township tour in Khayelitsha. It was such a beautiful experience, our hearts are filled with so much love afterwards!!! We played with the kids at the education center, had a traditional African meal, went to the family’s living in the townships and experienced their life. We met the sweetest people and we can definitely say that this tour was the highlight of our holiday. Juma is so kind and calm, he explained everything very well and showed us a lot. We are so thankful!!!

Our tour guide Zack was perfect match. He was very insightful but most impressive was how he was able to be so professional and friendly at the same time. As he knew everybody and talked us all the backstories (his storytelling was really great), it really felt like well balanced tour between street art and local life. You can't ask more if you like to know also more about Woodstock and I recommend you to be curious about this area.

Just the 2 of us for this excellent tour. Our guide,Zach, was extremely knowledgable and personable. He showed us a mixture of street art, sculptures and gallery art, in his neighbourhood of Woodstock. Local, national and international artists. Pointing out details we would have missed.
And on a personal note he showed us his beautiful artful house.
Thank you Zach.

We went with Mr. Shaheed, who picked us up from our accommodation in his car. We thought we were just booking a street art tour, but came away with a much more nuanced understanding of Cape Town's recent history. What touched us so much was our guide's sincerity - his profound sense of spirituality, community spirit and passion. Mr. Shaheed has a bit of a "youth guidance counsellor" vibe - he doesn't sugarcoat issues, but he also wants the best for his community. He has a view about almost everything, but was also interested in what we had to say - and he genuinely listened as well as sharing his take on issues. The trip is as much as you make of it, as he was extremely adaptable to whatever question we had, and we found ourselves talking about politics, the economy, immigration, and even at some point, NFTs... :D

This is the second time we visited Cape Town, and in part thanks to him, we have a different understanding of the city. Definitely recommended.

Highly recommended! The tour was great and allowed us to go deep into the streets of the beautiful and culturally rich neighbourhood of Woodstock. Through a tour of its street art, we got to know a lot about the area, its history, people, and culture. If you want to know more about Cape Town, you'd miss out by not taking this tour. Thanks a lot to Zachary for the great experience, his knowledge, and especially his passion in explaining to us so much about Woodstock!

We had a fabulous experience with Shaheed! He knew all the artists and the changing urban landscape of the area as he lives right in the heart of it all. He knows all the locals so you feel right at home in Cape Town. He is a great story teller, beyond just the art. He talks about the history and the community as well as personal stories to weave the art walk together. If you ask any question, he likely has an interesting perspective! He and his wife served us samosas, bhajis and tea at the end to complete an intimate story-lead experience. We were a group of 6 and at the end we all sat around chatting over tea. More than expected for sure! Definitely recommended.

I was really excited about this tour as I thought it would be a good intro into the Woodstock area and a stepping stone to explore more.

Unfortunately, my guide arrived late and seemed a little stressed - he told me how busy he was that day and how he had back to back bookings with various clients. So I think this impacted adversely on my tour even though he was really nice.

I was the only one on the tour. My guide was a little frazzled, kept stopping to talk to people about personal matters and left me alone in the streets on a number of occasions.

I booked the tour specifically for the street art (which was great!) But I felt like my guide spent more time talking to me about Islam than about art. It was nice that he wanted to share his faith with me but there was a point we stopped in the streets with two other men and they were preaching to me from the Quran for about 15 mins which I thought was excessive and made me feel uncomfy.

There was also no drinks or snacks provided and we didn't go to the Old Biscuit Mill (which the tour was supposed to include).

Overall, I think my guide must have been having a off day - which was a shame!

This was by far one of the best walking tours I’ve done in all my travels. My husband and I will do a walking tour in each city we visit but this one sets itself apart because of the authenticity that came along with it. You get off the beaten path and our guide (Zack) was incredibly knowledgeable. He knew everyone in the neighborhood and made us feel like family and not like tourists. Him and his family even do cooking classes in their home which they invited us into and we got to try some amazing food! Zack knew so much about the street art and gave us a new appreciation for it. If you are looking for something unique, authentic & inspiring this is the tour for you. Thank you !!

We (my daughter en I) did get a sort of private tour because at 8:30 no one else joined the group. We had a great tour through Woodstock and our guide told us a lot about the art, the background of the art (such as meaning, who made it and when it was made) as well as about the neighbourhood. So I think we have had a great tour!

Very interesting visit, lots of information and insights about the artists and Woodstock neighborhood, its history, its inhabitants and how COVID has impacted its economy. We had a great time and our guide was so kind to invite us for tea in his home and introduce us to his family. It was my first time having this type of experience and I highly recommend it, it gives you a deeper understanding of the place you're visiting and you will remember forever the nice people you've met :)

Enjoyed this exploring walk.
Got to walk the neighborhood with Tauriq. It was very nice learning about and taking pics of the many different and imaginative pieces of art work throughout Woodstock. I definitely have an appreciation of the area now. Would love to visit the next time I'm here to see which paintings have changed. I know the area is under "change" but I hope that change doesn't destroy the beautiful parts of it that exist right now.
