We arrived slightly late as they sent an email that had a sooner pickup time than what the actual booking here said (my fault as I didn’t realize that they all would do that). They were still kind about it. We were provided rash guards, surfboards, and a quick lesson before they sent you out. When you go out to surf they have two people to help. One will help you find the wave to surf and the other will help you get your board back to the wave (both very helpful). Don’t underestimate the amount of your body you will use to surf. I was so sore for many days after. We were given the option to return to our resort immediately or hang out on the beach a bit which was nice. If I could do it over again, I 1,000 times would. What a feeling!

Macao surf camp is the ultimate laid back surf vibe that I wish more places are like. Just a little place with rentals and lessons and a snack stand on an uncrowded beach. The service was impeccable. They arranged transportation for us which arrived right on time to our hotel and got us back when we needed. The beach is amazing, quiet and with very little crowds. Surfboard rentals are available for a very reasonable price. Surf was pretty mellow the day we were there but it was a great time. We were supposed to go the next day, but Larisa let us know it was too windy and the waves were no good. That honesty and service shows how outstanding Macao Surf is. She could have let it ride and gotten us out there to pay for a less than stellar day. Next time we’re in the DR, we’ll stay close to Macao so we can hang out there more.

Our experience at this beach started off poorly, as we were immediately bombarded by local hustlers before even reaching the surf shop. While the employees at the surf shop were perfectly fine but , the overall atmosphere felt hostile. The locals were incredibly persistent, pressuring us to check out their “family’s locally made products,” and they simply wouldn’t take no for an answer. At one point, we had to pay a man just to leave us alone after he gave us a “free” bracelet as a gift, only to demand payment when we were leaving. Additionally, it felt like they charged for everything, including access to the bathroom. The experience made us so uncomfortable that we cut our time at the beach short.

I’ve taken many surf classes in many different places… This one was HANDS DOWN the best i’ve ever taken! The instructors were incredibly knowledgeable, kind, personable & the setting was breathtaking. It was so efficient & we rode so many waves. I got engaged the night before our class & I could not have DREAMED of a more perfect way to spend our first day as fiancés. Not to mention the pictures & videos taken- They truly went above & beyond. THANK YOU x10000000 for the memory of a lifetime- We are truly so grateful & will rave about this place for a lifetime.

The group surfing at Macao Surf Camp was a great experience! We had an easy pick up at our hotel, arrived easily at Macao Beach and got right to the correct place. We were greeted, outfitted with rash guards and given a quick lesson on land. Then they carried our boards to the other end of the beach, and got us right in the water! We each had an instructor plus an extra staff member to help us collect our board after we rode the waves in! We had a great time, the staff was friendly, helpful and kind. I couldn't recommend this activity more!! We opted out of getting photos, which I regret now. Spend the $35 and get photos of a once in a lifetime experience.

Amazing experience! Each person in our group had their own helper, and everyone was able to get up. The two hour group lesson was perfect for our group of eight, with an age range of 10-40yo. Highly recommend!

This was an amazing experience and topped the list of my fav things in the DR. I took 2 surf lessons 10 years ago in another country and couldn’t get up at all. I’m 43 yrs old and within 4 tries on a short board, Santiago and another instructor had me confident, excited to try and up on the board! I rode waves almost 8/10 for 2 hrs and I’m a novice! It’s because the instruction was amazing and I would highly recommend this! Local surf fun, chill vibes, lovely beach and nice waves. Rodolpho and Sammy were awesome too! I had one more instructor who was also very helpful. When I come back to the DR, I’m booking for their surf camp- it’s worth it! Quick note for those at resorts- the bellboys can be fussy about pick up at the hotel lobby. Barcelo Bavaro requires that you meet your pick up driver at the main gate. It’s not cool- you tell them to drive you to the main gate for free- they owe you at least that for the inconvenience it puts on you and the Macao Surf Camp driver.

The staff at Macao Surf Camp is the best! I've worked with them twice...once a few years ago, and again last week. Both experiences were fantastic! I have a decent bit of surfing experience, but the rest of my family does not. Five of our group took a group lesson, I just rented a surfboard. Everyone had a great time! We stayed at a resort a bit further up the coast. MSC arranged to pick our group up at the resort and brought us to Playa Macao. They are located at a public beach access, with a little facility that has a changing area, shower, and plenty of surfboards of all types (long, short, both hard and foam-topped). For people bringing towels/bags/wallets/phones, they are happy to safely store everything while you are surfing. They also have rashguards available to borrow if you need them. The section of beach to the immediate west of MSC is wide-open...so plenty of space to spread out. No competition for waves, no rocks, and no danger of irritating any locals. August isn't necessarily peak surfing season, but we experienced small (2-4 ft), friendly waves that were great for lessons...but also good enough for me to get in some short but gratifying rides. My family members taking lessons reported that the instructors were super-friendly, and as I was watching from down the beach I saw everyone up on their feet multiple times...with lots of triumphant, happy yelling. As you would expect, they also have staff taking pictures, so bring a credit card if you want to purchase (which we did in this case). After lessons/surfing...there is a small bar to grab a beer and a snack, and some locals selling crafts. (Also friendly and fun!) If you are after a serious, big-wave surfing experience (in August)...this might not be the place. But for a friendly morning of surfing, some great introductory lessons, and a staff that can handle the logistics, MSC is amazing! I took my son on this excursion. The pickup and drop off was easy and our instructors were fantastic. We got one on one attention and were up surfing by the second wave. The beach is also stunning!! My advice, there will be someone who wants to take your pictures for an additional fee. I would recommend taking advantage of this. They guy stayed in the water for almost half the time and took almost 200 pics. i got numerous pics of my son and I riding waves together. I brought my phone in a waterproof case and there is just no way to get good pics while also trying to surf.

Awesome time with the MSC crew. My kids and I had surfed a few times in the past but it was a few years - after a quick popup technique refresher on the sand, they had us catching waves from the very first one. All the instructors were super friendly and helpful and had great tips along the way to improve our riding abilities. Would definitely recommend and go with them again!

Very skilled at making sure you catch a wave and get up on your board. Lots of helpers to assist with your board and getting back out to the waves. Our entire group of 11 were riding waves within the first 30 minutes

We had a great time. The team were so helpful. Everybody got up on the board. Nice half day trip off the resort.. Well organized fun time.

Amazing experience at Macao Surf Camp! Raphael answered all my questions and organized a great day of surfing for my husband and three teen sons, which included scheduling transportation to and from our resort (no need to book through expensive resort tour companies- go directly through Macao Surf Camp!) My family had some prior surf knowledge so we opted for board rentals only, without lessons. Regardless of not booking lessons, the staff was helpful, reliable and organized. I highly recommend this company if you're looking for a surfing experience in Punta Cana. Thank you Raphael and Team!

My husband, 9 year old daughter and I had an amazing time at Macao surf camp. We booked it through Viator and the communication and transportation were perfect. After a short practice session on the beach we walked to an area where the surf wasn’t as rough. The instructors were really wonderful, helping us get ready to ride the waves, paddle back out and encouraging and cheering us along the way. We really couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Highly recommend.
