Itinerary
- 1Combine unique panoramic views, traditional Cretan villages and find out all about the lifestyle of a Cretan shepherd by exploring an original shepherd‟s hut ‟Mitato‟‟. Learn about the history and the traditions of the Island, meet locals, explore the wildlife of Crete, feel our hospitality and taste the delicious Cretan cheese and cuisine. Our Day starts from Rethymnon city heading south east passing through traditional villages of Milopotamos and an area with dense vegetation, fresh aromas and unique views. The amazing field and views continues until we reach the historic Halepa Monastery, that use to be a refuge for Cretan rebels during civil wars and our second stop takes places. The unique view from the monastery is a great spot for pictures combing the highest mountain tops of Crete and a farming valley. Afterwards our amazing off-road route continues and on the way up to the shepherd‟s hut “Mitato” you will enjoy the magnificent panoramic view… If we are lucky… eagles and wild goats will stop for us to take some photos. The road will lead us up to a traditional Shepherd‟s Hut where you will find out all about the lifestyle of a shepherd and cheese making process. There the owner welcomes us with a shot of raki and fresh Graviera Cheese. Leaving Shepfherd‟s hut and working up an appetite we arrive at a traditional Cretan tavern in Axos village, where we introduce you to Cretan cuisine with plenty of food, wine and warm Cretan hospitality. On our way back we will follow an asphalt road that will lead us to the city of Rethymnon.

- tinasmall1230 contributionsCostsaver Excellent VacationMy husband (Wayne) and I booked this vacation through Costsavers to celebrate our 40th Anniversary. It lived up to all our expectations. The tour was great and our tour director Nadine did a fabulous job. She was very organized, kept us up to date on where to meet and when, gave us stories and information on all the different places we were headed to and answered our many questions and we really felt she was part of our group. Our group was 30 people and most of us really “jelled” together and hung out at different locations. Unfortunately there was 4 members of our group (Australians) who were very antisocial, never joined our group on walks, lunches or dinners or any excursions. They were also very rude, kept sitting in other members seats on the bus, and were swearing (Nadine wasn’t in the bus at the time and I and others didn’t say anything because we didn’t want to cause a disturbance). Nadine tried to included them and invite them to join us, but they refused. We also had a group of elderly Asian members that were lovely and very nice, but needed a little extra attention and Nadine took very good care of them. Our bus driver Spiros was a superman at the wheel ! Can’t even imagine how he handle some of those hairpin turns, traffic and mountain climbing. We all felt very safe with him because he drove with great care; never sped or took any traffic chances. We did find the tour itself was a little rushed. I had booked with Costsaver’s last year and toured Italy and we had more time in each location, but I was prepared for the rush this year since we’re booked a shorter tour. Next time I will just book a longer tour. I loved the cruise! It was my first (and won’t be my last), I only wish I had had more time to enjoy the ship.Written October 19, 2024
- florisvandee0 contributionsToo expensiveToo expensive ! Very basic food. Also the location was not communicated clearly. And photos show another (better) location. Go on your own, there is enough to find in Plaka.Written September 5, 2024
- stephenp1040 contributionsA time saverWe used the Yellow Line bus on our visit and at €50 for a two day pass it was value for money, as it takes in all the sites and saves on too much leg work during a short stay.Written March 8, 2024
- Culture553476791800 contributionsWindmills Yes but take a spin to GIORAS Pastry Cafe! The windmills are lovely great for a picture! But don’t forget to visit GIORAS Pastry Cafe, Agias Paraskevis Myloi. Not far away! It has some very delicious treats and well worth a sample or two!!! We check on the quality every time we visit Mykonos as part of our civic duty!!!Written August 17, 2023
- Richard J0 contributionsByzantine Athens came aliveThis tour was the highlight of our visit to Athens. Our guide was an archeologist who had a deep knowledge of the Byzantine era and Eastern Orthodox Church. We toured the Byzantine museum and several churches in Athens. We had a 4 hour guided discussion during which Byzantine Athens came alive. We would not hesitate to book a tour with this company again.Written November 15, 2022
