About
Our location is very unique and our family are our dogs. We do have over 100 friendly and lovable dogs on site. "We are a place for people who love dogs" We are located outside the city light pollution so northern lights are visible directly overhead of our lodge, no need to drive anywhere. In addition to that we are located right at the shores of a river and for as long as the river is no frozen (until late October) there is a chance to get mirror pictures of the Northern Lights.

Our group of 8 men spent a wonderful three days and four nights at Muktuk last month enjoying the hospitality of Manuela, Jeff, their team, and large collection of well cared for dogs. We stayed in the lodge feeling like members of the family enjoying the good food and clean, comfortable accommodations.

The dog sled outings during our stay were memorable and included learning how to prepare the dogs for travel, and taking in a scenic two-hour practice trip along the river. Muktuk also ensured we were outfitted with warm jackets, pants, boots and gloves to make sure our time outside was comfortable.

We left the next day for a spectacular four-hour dog sledding adventure along the river and onto the Dawson Trail before stopping to set up camp for the night and ensure the dogs were comfortable and well fed. Despite the temperature getting down to -30C, a great outdoor fire, hot meal, and warm sleeping bags kept us comfortable until morning when we packed up and returned to the Muktuk Lodge.

At the end of our adventure, we enjoyed warming up with a soak at the Takhini Hot Springs. We also fit in a fun afternoon at Scout Lake being taught how to ice fish by Andrew. No fish were caught, but the experience was very enjoyable as we all took in the beautiful Yukon scenery.

Our group has been doing an adventure trip every two years for the last 24 years and all of us returned home saying this one was one of our best. The adventures were fantastic, but it was the hospitality of Manuela, Jeff and everyone at Muktuk that really made it special.

We all hope to return soon to share the experience with our families!

Oh guys, thank you so much again for staying with us and loving up our dogs. We really enjoyed your company and stories, and all the laughs that came with it. It sure took a few days to get used to a quiet house after you left. You guys rock and keep on doing your adventures, and maybe the Yukon will be on the list for a summer trip in the future ;)

A must-do of Whitehorse! The owners are great people who care for the health and well-being of both the dogs and their guests. Enjoy hearty, home-style food surrounded by the furry snouts of retirees after an enjoyable day giving excited dogs their daily excercises. The barks and wagging tails should convince you that pulling the sleds is what these dogs love best. A place for people who love dogs, indeed!

Amazing experience for anyone who loves dogs and the outdoors.

We did the three night, four day trip and had an amazing time; the Lodge is very cozy and clean, and there is just so much attention payed to every detail to make you feel comfortable.

The cooking is first rate! plenty of healthy home cooked food, which is delicious, and perfect after a cold day out in the snow. From the moment you arrive, you'll feel really welcome, and with a bunch of the retired dogs hanging around the lodge, you'll always feel in good company.

Manuela and Jeff are amazing hosts, and are very capable and knowledgeable about the outdoors. Despite very cold temperatures, you will have proper instruction, and clothing to make sure that you are well prepared. It really helps to have some prior exposure to the outdoors before the trip to make sure you get the most out of it, but you will always feel safe and taken care of whether you are out with the dogs, or just relaxing around the lodge.

Speaking of dogs - the dogs are very happy and well taken care of, and it's easy to see how much the staff there loves their dogs. The dogs incredibly sweet. They are truly one of the highlights of the trip, and it's worth spending some time with them to really see their personalities shine through. If you like dogs, you could easily just spend the majority of your time around the lodge just getting to know them.

Overall, I think if you are drawn to the outdoors this is a perfect place to go, and you'll leave with so many great memories. Highly recommend!

Thank you so much Liviu for coming back and bringing some back up this time around. It was great to have you here and to share some nice conversations. Thank you also for speaking so highly of our dogs, I might be a bit biased but they are the best dogs in the world. :) Hoping you will be able to come back again.

An epic week dog sledding with an awesome company, a great time all round, assigned our own dog teams for the duration, you can’t help but fall for the beautiful four legged friends that will pull you for hours along frozen rivers and forest trails. A great technical learning experience, from handling, harnessing, booties and using the sled. A progressive experience that puts you through your paces as your five dog team tests you and your abilities, the varying temperatures and terrain from hard pack snow to knee deep powder to the winding ups and down of the technical forest trails that see you run with and push your sled up steep hills, to steering to avoid trees on those tight turns that threaten to spit you out if you get it wrong, loved every minute. If you love dogs it’s truly addictive and the dogs are beautifully cared for, I have enough dog licks to last a lifetime. Will be back for more :)

Absolutely first rate. If you love dogs, this is nirvana. We stayed in the lovely Shilo Chalet, enjoying the autumn colours and absorbing Yukon fresh air. With the Takhini and Yukon rivers nearby and the Kluane National Park a mere 90 minute drive on the famed Alaska Highway we enjoyed the best of what Yukon has to offer. Our highlight was taking a dog sled team on a training run around the Muktuk property pulling us on an ATV. How cool is that that?! The Muktuk owners' love and respect for their dogs was amazing. We will be back in 2022.

Our visit to Whitehorse and staying at Muktuk beat our expectations. 👏

Our host, Manuela picked us up from the airport and everything beyond that was just amazing. The cabin was so inviting. Also, Manuela was so accommodating in every sense; especially in preparing her fantastic meals while catering to my husband’s allergies. Her and Jeff run an amazing operation and we just loved visiting with the dogs that were inside and outside.

I am going to keep this brief as I have started to write my AMAING review a couple of times and then I lost what I had started to write.
If you are looking for a Yukon Adventure and you love dogs, Muktuk is a must. I still dream about the day I can go dog sledding again with Hazel as one of my lead pups 🐶

It's hard to put into words just how much I enjoyed my time with Muktuk. This was my first solo trip, but I never felt lonely in the lodge- staying there felt like a visit with family, and I had lots of interesting conversations with Manuela, Jeff, and all of the other amazing hosts there. The food was fantastic as well, especially Manuela's chocolate(x3!) cookies. The lodge itself was about the coziest place I've ever been, and I'll miss the dark mornings and evenings spent with hot tea, a book, and a bunch of sleepy dogs down in the main lounge.

I came to Whitehorse partially to see the aurora, but I'll be coming back for the scenery, the people, and all of the amazing outdoor activities. I can't wait to visit again!

Your lodge is beautiful, clean, and roomy with such a down-home warm vibe. Your cooking is 5 star and the fact you prepared a gluten-free menu daily for our daughter on top of what you prepared for us, was very much appreciated. None of us knew gluten-free food could so tasty. On top of all that, hanging out with 10 dogs in the lodge, proved so peaceful and relaxing (I must add a special Thank-you for allowing me to play some of Jeff's blues albums while snuggling with the dogs while enjoying a glass of wine,). It was chill!
You looked after EVERY detail making this holiday so enjoyable and even though the temps were a bit chilly for us, we stayed toasty warm inside and out.
You bet we will be recommending MukTuk to everyone.
