- Make your way to a central location in Quebec City’s Upper Town, and then join your guide for a small-group tour of the historic center—a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Set out on foot to running commentary on the modern-day culture and long history of Quebec City, passing stone buildings with a distinctly European feel. You’ll see the Fortifications of Quebec, and learn the important role that the city walls once played. Pass La Citadelle de Quebec (Quebec Citadel), an active military installation and the official residence of the Canadian monarch, then take in Notre Dame des Victoires—one of the oldest stone churches in Canada. Cross Place Royale, often called the birthplace of French America, and wrap up the tour near the base of the Old Quebec Funicular, where you can hop a ride back up to the Upper Town without retracing your steps uphill.

- DianeLove120 contributionsRaining and still a favorite excursion! We walked though upper and lower Quebec City in the rain and wind and it was still one of our favorite excursions! Excellent guide, so much history and beauty, cute shops (but no time to stop until the end) . We had tea at the Frontanac Hotel, a highlight. Had it not been raining we would have shopped at the end, but it was 50 degrees....... Rode the funicular to upper QC so an easy walk down. The cathedral is beautiful to see inside.Written October 24, 2024

The Quebec City Walking Tour with Chantel was a great experience. The tour group of 12 was a good size and although tour was promoted as 2 hours, it was closer to 3hrs, so great value and exceeded expectations. On a very windy and sometimes rainy day, our guide was thoughtful in giving rest breaks and helping those who needed a bit of extra assistance. As a local, she provided extensive information on the history and culture of the city and province and her knowledge of other cultures allowed her to make comparisons that the US group could relate to. Five stars!

We learned so much about the history of Quebec. The City, the Province, the formation of Canada and their connections with the American revolution.
We learned about Champlain’s founding of Quebec City in 1608, and the strategic reasons for his choice of its location. We learned about the numerous attempts by the English to capture Quebec, which succeeded only after the Battle of the Plains of Abraham in 1759, and the subsequent, final unification of Canada.
All of this history we learned at various locations in the “Old City” after short walks along cobblestone streets, among centuries old buildings of various ages and diverse local materials. We highly recommend this tour for early in your visit, to improve your subsequent experiences in Quebec City and Province.

Thank you for sharing such a detailed review! We’re delighted that our tour provided you with a comprehensive look at Quebec’s rich history—from Champlain’s founding of the city to the pivotal events that shaped Canada. It’s wonderful to know that wandering the charming, cobblestone streets of Old Quebec while uncovering these stories made your visit even more meaningful. We always aim to deliver an engaging and personalized experience (with intimate groups of up to 15 guests) that serves as a perfect introduction to the city and province. Your recommendation to take the tour early in your visit is much appreciated, and we hope to welcome you back—perhaps in a different season or with friends and family—for another enriching adventure in Quebec!

This walking tour of Quebec City was top notch! Our guide was very knowledgeable and shared lots of fun facts about the city and her experience living in QC. Saw so much of the city in just a few hours and was a great starting point for my weekend there. Felt very comfortable after the tour knowing where we were in the city and seeing all the places we walked by and learned about. Would definitely recommend this specific tour, especially as you first get to QC so you can enjoy the rest of your time there with the knowledge acquired after this tour!

Francis was very knowledgeable & insanely funny. He held the group's attention throughout & the historical stories he told will help us remember them for years to come. He was thoughtful about the cold weather & spent a little extra time in the churches to allow us to warm up. I would highly recommend this amazing walking tour.

We chose one of the coldest, wettest days of October to take our outdoor walking tour in Quebec City. Would I recommend doing it with the weather issues if I had known? Probably not. But would I recommend the tour and tour guide overall? Absolutely! Our guide, Karen (sp?) was a trooper, giving us more than a glimpse into the history, people, culture, and practicalities of this wonderful city, all while getting soaked herself! We were in a smallish group of about 10-12 adults and the pace was comfortable while we each met and exceeded our step goals for the day. If this is an initial visit to Old Quebec, I would thoroughly recommend making this your first tour as it set the tone for the rest of our stay. Thanks Tours Voir Quebec!

We had the most excellent walking tour with Christian Gingras yesterday, July 4th, 2024! He was so knowledgeable and explained the extensive Quebec history in a fun, interesting, and understandable way. He was obviously proud of his city while at all times being politically sensitive to us who were from other countries. He was pleasant at all times, even though it was hot and the tour went a little long, probably due to the high number of tourists at this time of the year. At the end, he gave us a flyer he made noting other things to see and do in Quebec which was very useful. We would highly recommend this agency and especially Christian.

We only had eight hours to spend in Quebec and took the Grand Tour to get a quick sampling of city architecture and culture. Our tour guide, Michael, was excellent with an impressive breadth of knowledge about Quebec’s history. There was an ever-present enthusiasm in his voice that exuded his love for the city he now calls home that made others on his tour appreciate it even more as well. Michael was in no hurry to rush through the tour since those in our group didn’t have dependencies that would be impacted; so, what was scheduled to be 2 hours lasted 40 minutes longer, which was a pleasant surprise!
Tours Voir Québec likes to keep the size of the tours small (I believe 12 at max) so that it's easier to interact with the guides and focus more on topics of interest to the group. We came away feeling enriched from the experience, learning much more than we ever knew prior to the tour and wanting to learn more once we got home. I highly recommend taking one of their tours if you get an opportunity...it will be a great experience at a value price.

We had a large group and most of the time the tour guide was leaving half the people way behind. Missed a lot of details of what was said and described. It is also noted in the advertisement that is a walk down to the lower Quebec City part however realize those steps are very steep. We had a couple ladies in our group depart early because of all of the steps and the steepness of everything.

Hello, thanks for your review. We obviously don't like to hear that the guide was leaving people behind! We ask all our guides to adapt to the people in the group and their capacities. Can you write to me at info@voirquebec.ca to let me know who your guide was, so that I can follow up? You have mentioned that this was a large group, but we do limit the number of people to 15. Are you sure this was our company? Thank you.

My husband and I loved the walking tour of Quebec City. We learned so much about the history of the city and the walking tour was the perfect amount of time. Our wonderful guide Marie was spectacular. She gave us a list of places to eat at the end of the tour. The tour gave us ideas and areas to explore so I recommend doing the tour at the beginning of your visit. I would recommend getting there early for traffic and parking ease. We parked on the street by the hospital (L Hotel-Dieu de Quebec) and parked at the meter. We would recommend parking under town hall but our Ford 150 truck would not fit.

Hi you can google it..bus 11 min, taxi 5 min, walk 25 min. I'd walk through the old town and up the hill. Depending on your health you can take the funicular up. It is located outside the hotel Frontenac. Enjoy!

We are booked for this walking tour on Saturday, August 13, 2022. Where would be the best place to park our car, particularly if we plan to spend the afternoon in Old Town for the remainder of the afternoon.
Written August 8, 2022
We parked at the parking structure next to Chouinard Quay. Park all day, and finish the day in the lower town, as that is where the walking tour ends. Suggest you take the funicular from lower town to upper town where the tour begins. Leaving the car parked by the Quay is easier to take the ferry over to Levis at sunset to see Quebec City all lit up. The parking structure is a short walk from the ferry.

Is the tour accessible for persons with walkers (speed and distance is not a problem but support is needed to walk)
