We have found that these walking tours are one of the best ways to learn the history of a city that you don’t know. You have the benefit of a talented guide, who is also someone who probably grew up and lives in the area. In our case our guide was Pierre. His intimate knowledge and professional presentation made the day most enjoyable. There is a lot of history packed into an area that is about a kilometer long, and a half kilometer wide. Pierre made that history come alive. You will also get the best advice on where to eat, and which areas to explore further. We signed up for the full tour. The three and a half hour investment more than paid for itself. The morning and afternoon sessions last about an hour and a half. You will take an hour break between to recharge and relax. In this way you explore both the east and west sides of Old Montreal. Booking the full tour saves money over booking the east and west tours separately.

Hello James! Yes, Pierre is truly an attentive guide and we will be sure to pass on your thoughtful compliments to him. Thanks also for pointing out that by booking both tours together, you can save money (whether you do them on the same day or not!). All the best,

Today I joined both East and West side tour for Old Montreal with Elise. She is really knowledgeable about the history of the city and is super fun explaining the history. She also made lots of recommendations for people from lookout at the Museum to restaurants to eat at. Highly recommend the tour if you want to learn more about the history of the city while getting your steps in.

We did the afternoon only portion of this tour, as we already had experienced much of the area covered in the morning. Our guide Elise was fantastic, very knowledgeable and kept a good pace, sharing with us historical and architectural details of the various buildings and areas. She also gave great coffee shop recommendations! The highlight was taking us to the observation deck in the archaeological museum, which we were able to do because we had a smaller group; wonderful views of the port and surrounding areas. Great tour, highly recommend it!

Hi Kay, Very happy you enjoyed the afternoon tour and some of the city's better coffee shops. (Recommending restaurants and coffee shops is an art!) We will let Elise know she was appreciated. Best,

History walking tour of Montreal was a very enlightening experience. I'm new to Montreal and wanted to know about it's heritage. I got this reference and ticket reservation from Trip advisor.

The tour was well managed. The guide was awesome. He took active interest in ensuring we had a great experience. The tour qas organized into small groups of about 10 people and two separate tours for eastern and western sides of old Montreal. I would recommend people to take both as it will give a complete view of the history and cultural legacy of the city.

I would suggest this tour as a starting point to anyone interesting in exploring more about Montréal and Canadian history and its cultural heritage.

We went on the afternoon tour. It was interesting at some points but boring at others. Our guide was nice and knowledgeable when asked questions, but was very repetitive and would state the same facts over 3 times. Feels like there was opportunity for more information to be shared rather than the same information 3 times. Also, when walking from site to site, it would have been nice to be learning at that time as well. I think the tour could be improved by adding additional stories about the people who lived in the buildings.

We did both the east and west tours with just an hour lunch break between. The tours as individuals tours were very good, the guide gave good information although she could get side tracked at times. The one thing I would say is that the two tours back to back were a lot. A lot of walking and a lot of information to try to take in.
I would recommend these tours but not back to back, do them over two days to give yourself time to digest what you’ve seen.

Hi Derek, You're absolutely right. Three hours of walking tours in one day is not for everyone! We of course like to offer as much flexibility as possible for those who want to do both and have limited time, but absolutely, you can spread your tour over two days. Thanks for taking the time to provide your feedback and let others know spreading the two tours over two days is an option they might want to consider. All the best,

We did both East ad. West walking tours. Sarah, was our guide on both tours. Despite the weather not cooperating for the first half, it did not dampen Sarah’s spirit and she gave a lively history of the East end first. This was a great review of the history of Montreal with a 90 minute easy walking trip around the area. It was delivered at a good pace ( our tour was in English)
The west half began about an hour break after the east tour. This is enough time for a bite to eat and plenty of places in old Montreal to try. The west tour accounted for some of the newer history and was more about the business side and development of Montreal.
Excellent way to get a feel of old Montreal and Sarah was very knowledgeable - and more importantly, local!

We had an excellent tour guide, David who was kind, humble, and very excited to show his favorite city to visitors. He was very knowledgeable in every details. His presentation was interesting. He pointed us details around that we otherwise would have easily missed. He answered all questions. The pace of walking tour was appropriate. It is definitely worth to take the tour to learn more about this beautiful city.

A great way to get a background of Montreal’s history. Our guide, Catherine, was very knowledgeable, fun to listen to, and clearly enjoyed her job (which makes all the difference). We only had time for the east tour, but time permitting would have done the west side as well. Overall, very enjoyable experience and recommend highly.

This was a fantastic start to our Old Montreal family vacation. My wife and I have been to Montreal several times in the past but this was our first tour here. Taking a tour really opens your eyes to so many details that you would otherwise miss in a city with so much history. Our guide, Stacey was very knowledgeable and passionate about Montreal. We did the full 3-hour tour which included a nice break for lunch in between tours of the East and West sides. Our daughters had a terrific time and learned so much about the city. We also met a wonderful couple on the tour who made the experience even more fun and memorable.
