What to expect
  • The River of Golden Dreams (officially Alta Creek) in Whistler features the epic scenery of British Columbia, best seen by boat. This 3-hour guided canoe tour during summertime provides views around every bend.   Make your way to the Carleton Lodge in Whistler, and check in 15 to 30 minutes before your scheduled departure time. A 10-minute shuttle-bus ride later, arrive at Alta Lake.   Begin with a safety briefing and learn various paddling strokes. Then, hop into your canoe and set off into the water. Your guide will accompany you in a separate canoe.   Paddle through flowing lilies and around overhanging greenery along the aptly named River of Golden Dreams. Pass by the original site of Myrtle Phillip's summer fishing resort. Families of ducks and geese glide along next to you as you head into the river’s mouth. Take advantage of the creek’s current, and steer through its narrow passages with just a few strokes. As the river opens up again on the other side, you'll get picked up on the shore of the glacier-fed Green Lake.   Your 3-hour tour ends with transport back to the Carleton Lodge.

We had a fantastic time out at the lake and at river of golden dreams route. The total length was around 3 hours and our tour guide, the fantastic, very helpful, and energetic Ryan, made our tour experience amazing. He went out of his way to get us un-stuck during times where the river was flowing fast and we had been caught in the sand banks. He is amazing, and we had such a great time today. Definitely recommend this tour for all levels of people.

Fantastic day out on the river. The guide’s instructions were clear. Minor portaging so the level of difficulty was easy for my wife and I.

This was such a great activity full of laughs, screams of joy (and a little bit of fear, navigating through the logs), and breathtaking views. What a beautiful river surrounded in picturesque scenery. Our guides Jess, Jordan and Jamie were so helpful and very knowledgeable, they made the adventure significantly better. I have been to Whistler many times in my life but I never realized this river existed...I will 100% be back! Highly recommend!

The canoe ride was fun and bittersweet at the same time. It was challenging for us as we crashed into every single tree but everybody had a lot of fun. And it was very memorable. Tara, our guide, was great. She was patient with us as we were complete newbies. The kids had fun even with all our mishaps and turned out to be a very memorable trip. Beautiful scenes with a beaver, ducks, and we even saw a bear!

Seeing the nature and paddling along the river was great. Even though the river was slightly challenging, our guide Ryan helped us get through it.

The canoe ride was fun…the water was not flowing too fast but still quick enough to be challenging. We went in early July. Our leader was Ryan and he was really nice and knowledgeable. I felt confident going down the river with him. I would definitely recommend this tour!
