About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Dspackman0 contributionsAsher is the Best!We were fortunate enough to have Asher as our tour guide. He was charismatic and so entertaining to listen to throughout the tour, there was never a dull moment! I appreciated the pace of the tour in that walking between venues was not strenuous and Asher ensured that everyone was gathered in close and could hear him with ease. We've done several ghost tours while visiting new cities, and this ranks in our top two! We all greatly enjoyed learning more about Victoria and the intriguing histories of past residents. Be sure and tip your guide!Written December 4, 2024
- I2302EYdaniellem0 contributionsAwesome tour! So fun!The ghostly walk was such an awesome tour!! I recommend this tour to anyone visiting Victoria. It was very intriguing to listen to all the ghost stories. Asher was a great guide and his animations in the storytelling made it very engaging to listen too! He was very happy to answer more questions I had at the end of the tour. Asher was very alert of each of us as we walked throughout downtown making sure we were safe, sticking together, could hear hear him and that we were enjoying it. This tour was so different to any other city excursion I have been on and something very unique to Victoria. It was cool walking around the next day and remembering all the places that Asher talked about that had the ghostly accounts– it made me feel closer to the city. It was also a good mix of stories– some were a bit more creepy than others, some just really interesting, some were silly and funny. I went with my mom and we both really enjoyed it! Thank you Asher for a memorable experience in beautiful Victoria! :)Written December 2, 2024

- IvyH2680 contributionsEerily wonderful!!The walk was SO very interesting historically!! The weather was perfect although some thunder and lightening would have cast an interesting eerie spell as it was close to Halloween when I went!!😂Chris was a great tour guide and I would recommend this walk and any other Walking Tours in Victoria!!Written November 1, 2024

- RobertMJThompson0 contributionsAlways funI've been on a couple of these walks around my home city. I currently have a humorous friend who fits the role of tour guide to the stars. You'll visit places of historical interest, spooky or not. Your trip will depend on the skill of the narrator. Ask for Ira, his manner will beguile you.Written October 25, 2024
- Tracy M0 contributionsIncredible story tellingIra Shorr led us through the streets of lower Johnson and around Market Square telling interesting, spine tingling stories with skill and expertise. This was an excellent outing for this life-long Victorian to get into the Halloween spirit and enjoy my hometown while learning some grisly details. 10/10 experience— highly recommend the tour and all the better if Ira is your leader. 👻Written October 17, 2024
- WelchTravels0 contributionsGhostly Walks, an October Tradition.Discover the Past tours are an excellent, accurate and unembellished way to become acquainted with Victoria’s colourful history. As a local, born in Victoria I’m familiar with the history and ghost stories yet each October when I take the tours I’m treated to new unheard accounts of the underworld. The guides have a clear and compelling way to engage the walking groups with excellent storytelling techniques and they use headset microphones. Walking is easy around the various routes and downtown is fairly flat. Dress warm and don’t let the rain deter you as it’s classic Victoria weather, and this tour is not to be missed. Dress in layers, grab an umbrella from your hotel, and enjoy a late dinner or glass of Van Isle wine afterwards to debrief on the tales you heard during the night.Written October 17, 2024
- Tali R0 contributions3-day weekend celebrating our anniversary, always looking to learn about new places.Great tour, very considerate and knowledgeable guide. Highly recommend for anyone wanting to learn more about Victoria.Written October 13, 2024
- westongerry0 contributionsHistory, context and nuanceI do not exaggerate in saying on of the best and most informed historical sight seeing experiences I’ve ever had! From details like headsets that ensured all travelers could hear our guide, to contextual stories and even a little scandal, Chris and Oake over delivered!Written October 13, 2024
- pamwC6836JH0 contributionsThe ghosts came alive! It was a lot of fun! Our guides told some great tales, and as a resident of Victoria myself, i learned some new things about my city. The tour was an hour long, so not too much walking or standing at any one time. There were a few stairs involved, but there was an option for a ramp if needed. As someone who works in the local tourism industry myself, I’ve had the chance to work with John and Chris Adams, our two local historians who started these tours. They do regular history tours as well, and are interesting and engaging to listen to as they weave Victoria’s history together. I was certain that the rest of their guides would be equally captivating, and was not disappointed. I would gladly go again, on another route, and plan to take in some of their regular tours next year as well.Written October 11, 2024

What an excellent tour!!! I learned so much about Victoria's Chinatown. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and presented the history in a captivating manner. We were even taken into a Chinese Temple that no one even knew existed.

Fantastic tour today with John Adams, who literally wrote the book on Chinese Victoria. Deep historical knowledge of Chinatown, integrated with personal anecdotes from growing up in Victoria. Fascinating combination of stories and history. Highly recommend this tour. Six stars.

Excellent history tour of China town and the temple. Use of headset ensured all the talk could be heard and the tour went over time. A honey bun to eat was an added extra. Very good value for money.

This father/son duo are so knowledgeable and entertaining. In all honesty, I normally retain very little when I ago on a tour. This was presented so well that I actually remembered stuff. It is 100% value. I would highly recommend this tour.

Thanks for coming along with us on our Chinatown Tour. It's great to know how interesting you found it. Thanks for posting your pictures on Facebook. We agree using the listening devices really helps people hear what's being said, especially in a busy area like Chinatown.

We had a really enjoyable tour with our guide Chris. He’s an avid story teller and historian. We really appreciated the audio receiver headsets we used so that we could hear him clearly wherever we walked with him. Would highly recommend him.

We're so pleased that you enjoyed Chris' Historical Walking Tour. As you noted, he's both an historian and an avid storyteller. Agreed, the headsets allow you to both walk along and hear what Chris has to say.

Learn about the origins of the area, including family mores from the homeland, spiritual practices, Sun Yat Sen, ups and downs of the area. No stupid jokes. Very factual

The tour was ok. More ghost stories then actual opportunities to experience paranormal activity. Would not do again.

The guide was incredibly knowledgeable and his respect for the Chinese community really came through. We learned about the history of Chinese in Canada, the artist who painted murals in Chinatown, and visited a temple and an herbalist. We also learned about the gambling and opium activity while walking through the areas where they took place. Wonderful tour!

Did the walking tour of China Town and the James Bay "Emily Carr" walk. Each walk was 90 min in length, lead by a very capable knowledgeable guide who I gather is a historian by education and a resident of Victoria since age 11. A lot of insights and with the aid of the earpiece microphone we wandered the streets with him as he invited us to think about how things must have been back then. Highly recommended. Has other tours available under a brochure entitled Walking Tours.

We will be in Victoria from noon on January 16th until noon on the 18th. Are there walking tours available within that time? At what price (we are a couple), and where does the walk start and at what time?
Written January 15, 2019
Are there tours after noon? My ferry arrives from Seattle at 10:30 and my son and I are pretty excited to go on the walking tour. But we will probably be late for the 10:30 walking tour. Thank you for any information you can give.
