Parts of trip were pretty bumpy so remember the anti sea sick pills if your susceptible; I was grateful I remembered and was fine. It was a nice sized boat and not to many people; coffee and hot chocolate flasks were a nice touch. We raced after a pod of Orca's that had been

Me and my sister from Vancouver took the ferry to Victoria just for this experience since we have bought the "cheap" tickets through groupon. We were waiting for this cruise for weeks and sadly our experience was very bad. We came on a boat - not Zodiac type but slightly bigger,

Dear Greta, In all the years I have been part of the Whale Watching industry, this review has to be one of the most confusing and strange reviews I've ever seen. First of all you got a very special deal for this tour as you stated, not that it matters, we provide excellent service to all our guests and have done so for over 30 years. Second, you booked a Whale Watching tour and saw several Whales..... "we saw some tails in a very far distance" & "drove very close to the animal". these two statements totally contradict themselves and are also misleading. The fact is our Captain traveled at appropriate speed (the vessel was traveling at no more than 25 knots at any time) to areas where Whales were either reported or were spotted by the Captain. The vessel then slowed to 7 knots or less at 1 mile away from the Whales (this is more than the guideline of 1km) and did not speed from one whale to another but did adjust position several times. During your trip the tide was changing so the Whales were having to adjust their position to find the food and our Captain (of over 20 years experience) did the same. At no time did our Captain (who actually has a Masters Degree in Marine Biology) ever endanger the Whales or disturb the whale. In fact that is a preposterous and false statement as our Captain and crew follow all guidelines to ensure the Whales are not disturbed. Five Star Whale Watching is actually the first & only company in Victoria to be a World Cetacean Association (WCA) Certified Responsible Whale Watching Operator and something we are proud of. As for your comments about the crew not listening to you, that is also not the case and the crew had tried to explain several times why the Captain was changing position. The Captain & Crew also have to take into consideration what is best for the entire group on the vessel, not just two people. Funny enough we had other people from your tour who came back to the office saying that they loved the tour, guess it is all a matter of expectations...... To claim this is just a 9-5 job for them is both false and insulting! You also obviously did not listen to the overview of the trip given at our office prior to your 3 hour tour. By the way, I was on the water that day on our other vessel and witnessed exactly what was going on out on the water. So I know the reality on the water that day is far from what you have expressed in this inaccurate and very misleading review. Perhaps if you were so disappointed you should have come to the office to discuss your experience with our manager, but you did not.... Five Star Whale Watching is proud to have been a leader in respectful & responsible Wildlife viewing for over 30 years.

What a blast, the highlight of our Victoria trip! The promo video is a little misleading looking like the whales are right next to the boat, but I figured that going in. We saw whales, followed them for a while, learned alot about them and the area, and had a great boat ride and

Great feedback... Our video footage is with a telephoto lens, we work hard to overcome the challenge of representing our trips with images that convey respectful viewing guidelines and protocol. We will redouble our efforts to get better at that. We very much appreciated your commendation of our crew for their ability to add to your tour with "teachable moments".

Reasonable price, Good boat, friendly and knowledgeable crew and experts. We had a great three hours on the water. I know you don't know what you're going to see but we were really lucky to see harbour porpoise, a humpback whale, a pod of orca, seals, sea lions and even a

Great experience! Our guide was very kind, professional and had a lot of knowledge. We had some bad luck with fog, but when the weather improved, he managed to spot a whale, which we followed for some time. Just great!

Thank you for your comments and wonderful review following your recent tour. Fog is just one of the various weather conditions that we have to deal with during our tours. However, our crew are highly professional, as you mentioned, and know that eventually persistence will pay off and they will find a Whale. Trips like this are usually the hardest on the Captains & crew, when we gets such high praise as yours, it makes it all worthwhile. Thank you again for taking the time to write such a thoughtful review. We will make sure your comments are passed onto the guide.
