Took this tour as a family of 4 (kids aged 9 and 13), all of us in relatively good shape but not super fit. An uphill hike of 20 minutes or so to get to the cave so come prepared for that, long pants/top and decent running shoes/hiking boots are a must, and gloves are handy - we brought our own from the dollar store and they were perfect (gardening gloves with rubber grip) and cheaper than renting.

Oscar was a fun guide, didn't provide too much information (could probably have given us more) but answered questions and gave a decent amount of background to how the caves formed, dry river beds etc.

First cave was easy walking after the initial clamber down over wet rocks, could stand up full height for most of the time, though some "detours" the kids took meant they could crouch or crawl for added fun. Great reflecting pool, few minutes of absolute darkness, but the rest of the time the headlamps from the 9 of us provided ample light to feel safe and secure. By the end of the tour of the first cave my 9 year old was getting twitchy and I think if the second cave had been similar he would have been bored and wanting to leave.

However, second cave was a very different feel - much narrower, some climbing ladders and even up the inside of a dry waterfall which was so much fun (and not overly difficult for people with decent flexibility), then a slide down and back down a ladder.

Highlight was the Cheese Grater at the end of the tour, a very narrow space of about 3' long, then after a 90 degree turn another 2' or so, only around 12" wide at the most, and significantly narrower in places - wear old clothes as some of us had minor rips and tears and certainly a few bruises by the time we'd squeezed through, but what an achievement!

Masks currently required at all times inside the caves, but not on the hike up or in the info centre

What an amazing experience and it was all thanks to our amazing guide.

Zak was an informative guide in a very fun and enjoyable way.

You can feel his passion for caving radiating through his voice.

I am coming back to visit these caves again and I will definitely be asking for Zak as a guide!

Went on July 8th with my two teenage boys 15 and 17. Because of COVID the groups were restricted to 6 instead of normal limit of 14. This made for a much better experience, small groups are always better. But also means you have to book. For this summer don’t risk the walk up.

We had AJ and Miles as our tour guides. They did a great job leading us, giving info on the area and telling lots of corny jokes . Definitely did a great job.

The first cave we went into had lots of tight spots and a waterfall to climb. While the waterfall is not mandatory, if you don’t do it , you miss most of the cave. It is rather easy as far as the side of a small mountain goes and you get a little wet.

Second cave is not as tight and more about formation. This is the 5th cave I have been in and would say it is on less impressive side as far as formations go, some due to vandalism. But having said that this is #1 for the caves I have done with regards to tight passages and fun scaling your way through . Usually my wife is with us and she won’t do tight passages.

If on the island definitely go to Horn Lake Caves, it is a just so.

Had a great time! It was my second tour through, and had just as much fun the second time around. Our guide Curtis made the trip with his amazing puns, information and humour.

Caves: 10/10 I hope I see bats next time!
Guide: 10/10
Puns: 10/10

**road to caves 1/10. Horrible pot holes. Seriously so bad. Give yourself like an extra 20 minutes so you can go 2 km/hr and try and dodge them. **

Can't wait for the longer "extreme" cave tour to open next summer!!

The logging road up to the Horne Lake Caves is bumpy gravel, give yourself time to drive up there slowly. Emile (A-Meal) our guide was fantastic, he was very patient with my kids, answered all their questions. He knew his stuff, our family felt safe with him as a guide. Gave us some tips on what else to see on our trip.
The Multi-Cave experience was fabulous. Wear warm older clothes, the jagged rocks rubbed against clothes making little tears and the caves are wet in some spots. Few spots where you are on your hands and knees getting through, few places to climb. Best part was the total black out experience, where we all turned off our headlamps. Bring your own gloves to grab onto jagged sharp rocks easier (they sell gloves at the visitor centre too for $6). Thank you Emile!
Highly recommend, for something different to do during a beach vacation. Bring appropriate clothing though!
August 17, 2021: Masks not required for the hiking trail to the caves, masks ARE required INSIDE the caves.

Emile was our tour guide for the multi-cave experience. He is so very knowledgeable and passionate about cave geology. He stressed the fragility of the formations within the caves and their need for protection. We learned a lot. His excitement was infectious. He was very safety conscious and gave clear, precise directions. Great sense of humour. From the reviews, it sounds as though Horne Lake Caves has a group of excellent tour guides and caving experts. Thank you for sharing your expertise.

This tour was awesome. We had never done any sort of caving before so we were a little apprehensive about crawling through dark tight spaces. But nothing ever felt uncomfortably tight and with everyone’s headlamps on it never felt dark (aside from our intentional “lights out” session). The guide made us feel safe and was super knowledgeable. Plus you could tell he really loved his job. I would 110% recommend this to anyone looking for something just a bit different to make a great memory.

Myles did an excellent job of sharing his love of caves with us on this spelunking adventure. This is not an event for anyone with mobility issues as there is a switchback hike up to the first cave, which is an old river bed, with large boulders to clamber over. Nevertheless, it was an amazing experience and we had a lot of fun. There was a focus on safety, with hand sanitizer, masks, helmets and teaching about using a 3 point position at all times for stability. We dressed for the 8 degree cave temperatures, but be sure to wear layers as the mask and exercise kept us warmer than we expected. Group members with claustrophobia actually had no difficulty on this excursion, largely due to the excellent guiding and coaching of Myles.

This cave experience was really worth it, I had been in touristic caves before, and while beautifully lighted and easy to walk on, it doesn't compare to having a more natural cave exploration using only the light on your helmet, and climbing here and there, going through narrower passages and larger chambers, this one is a real caving experience. I am not very fit, but had no problem with any part. Oscar was a very fun, knowledgeable and passionate guide with lots of interesting insight and information and was very helpful. Highly recommended!

We went with our 12 and 15 year olds and everyone had a great time.
Before going, I was a bit worried that I might feel claustrophobic and be scared of the darkness but at no point I felt scared at all during our tour, even during the few minutes of lights off.
The multi cave tour is perfect for those who would like a bit of challenge, especially those who are physically active.

Our tour guide Curtis is very knowledgeable and has a great sense of humour!

Highly recommend to wear/rent rain boots during the rain seasons, and be ready for the bumpy drive to the cave (not a paved road).

A very unique and fun adventure!
