Wonderful day in China Town
Oct 2021 • Family
Bob was such a nice man. Warm and so welcoming from the get go and put us right at ease. His knowledge of Chinatown and the history that dates back was so interesting. He knew Chinese families personally from years ago and their stories …. We would stop at various building and he’d tell us all about the people who used to live there and their affect on the city. People actually stopped him on the street today asking when his next tour was! He happily handed them his card and carried on with us. My mom, as always, had tons of questions and he answered every one!! :-). The time flew by and it was time we’ll spent. So much cultural and history knowledge and the food! We need to go back for one of those apple tarts!!

Great cultural (and food!) tour
Sep 2021
Bob was an amazing tour guide. He brought a wealth of knowledge, both of culinary arts and the history/culture of the Chinese in Vancouver, and conveyed it in a clear, engaging way throughout our tour. Furthermore, he took a very clear interest in learning about each of our 4 person tour group's backgrounds, and customized some of the content of the talk to match, including some excellent restaurant recommendations at the end of the tour.

Bob clearly chose each of the stops with care, and we enjoyed a tasty apple pastry, bbq pork, fine tea, and a great dim sum lunch spaced intelligently out between the cultural/historical points of interest. We could tell at each place that Bob has created a personal connection with the owners of the local shops, and as a result we were always treated very favorably by the staff of each location.

Bob also, of his own volition, informed us that the entry fee to the Garden had been reduced that day, and offered us an on-the-spot partial refund of the difference--it was entirely unnecessary but very ethical/moral, and made us feel great to work with such a thoughtful businessperson who wasn't just trying to get every dollar out of us he could.

If you're looking to learn more about the history of Chinese immigration to the Pacific coast, see the Vancouver's historic Chinatown, have some great sampling of food and drink, or just generally looking for a non-standard tour experience, I highly recommend booking with Bob.

Great Tour, Great Guide!
Sep 2021
What a treat! This tour was fantastic, the right balance of information and fun! So much laughter! Thank-you Bob! Bob is a natural story teller and helped us all feel like locals! We had a great group - shout out to Joan, Linda, Gwen, Darwin, Sonia and my mom, Mary! In addition to a wonderful dim sum lunch, we enjoyed a fabulous apple tart and delicious bbq pork while touring Chinese markets and learning about Vancouver's history. The traditional Chinese garden in the middle of downtown was a wonderful surprise and calm oasis! If you are looking for something different on your next trip to Vancouver, treat yourself with this wonderful tour!!

Must do in Chinatown
Sep 2021
This amazing tour is absolutely a must not miss. Bob’s encyclopedic knowledge of Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism and many aspects of Chinese culture and architecture made visiting the Sun Yat-Sen Garden an unforgettable experience, only surpassed by his deep understanding of the culinary traditions. We greatly enjoyed the visits to the New Town Bakery and a traditional Chinese tea shop, and especially the dim sum lunch. Be sure to bring a healthy appetite, good walking shoes, and an appreciation for Bob’s wit as well! Highly entertaining, completely enjoyable, and highly recommended.
