      Unnacceptable
Six of us booked a four hour paddle trip with Hyak months in advance. We were three couples and were travelling from different locations in the province, one from the lower mainland, one from the Okanagan and one from Vancouver Island. Since the trip was scheduled to start at about 10 am, we all booked motel rooms for the night before and after the paddle adventure. We checked with Hyak the afternoon before the trip and were assured all was well. Imagine our surprise when we received a phone call just before 7 am to tell us that the trip was cancelled because the guides had both called in sick. I find this quite a coincidence that both would be suddenly ill, but of course I have no way of knowing for sure what really happened. We were offered a trip the following day, but were unable to stay due to other prior commitments, so our river rafting adventure just didn’t happen. I find it completely unacceptable that a company like Hyak can operate without some contingency plan for employee sickness. Not only were we all disappointed, but each couple were out hundreds of dollars for travel, meals and motel charges. I still want to paddle the Thompson River or perhaps the Fraser, but it certainly won’t be with Hyak.

      Boys weekend.
This is our third year in a row doing both the one day and the two day. And every day is a different adventure, same river but so many different approaches never a disappointment. Big wave Dave and the crew put their skills together to cater to all levels and the after party makes you feel like one of the family. Thanks for the thrills and see you next year. I also recommend the simple life of Jade Springs camping and Lytton the history of the CN rail comes to life. Take the time to step back in time and experience the simpler life of small town.

We were Their to support the Free Flowing Rivers Project and had an epic rafting race with the best guide. We felt very secure throughout the whole rafting which was about 3 hours. The Thompson river is magically beautiful nature appreciation is just breath taking. All the staff was super friendly and helpful ! lunch and dinner were just what we needed and a great evening of music & camp fire ! We will be back for more ! Amazing two day rafting adventure!
For our friends bachelor party this past weekend we did the two day Fantasy Island rafting adventure and we couldn't have been happier. The staff, Rudy and Big Wave Dave, got everybody pumped up, ensured all the safety precautions were taken, and also gave some great tidbits about the area and its history. The first day of rafting was more relaxed and we were able to cool off in the river, while the second day was action packed with some great rapids. Our guide Rudy was great! He really made the trip for us, ensuring we were always having a great time and keeping us safe. 10/10 would raft again!

      Hyak - Hometown hospitality!
This is a real gem in the middle of Lytton! They have qualified, friendly, helpful staff who will ensure you have the maximum fun for your money. They are more affordable that some others in our area and are very attentive.

      Fantasy Island trip
My wife and had done a rafting trip together many years ago. This time we had our 12 year old son and 14 year old daughter with us on the 2 day/overnight trip down the Thompson River. My wife had tried every which way to back out over the months preceding the trip and I was also having some doubts about how the kids would fair. Fortunately, they all went on the trip and all had a totally awesome experience. We had 2 rafts guided by Ben, Will with help from Tree. First day had some great Rapids and plenty of quiet sections where you could hop out and float down with the rafts. The guides put on a wonderful lunch and offered informative narration when on the river. There was also a kayak "Ducky" for our use. The overnight stay on the island in the middle of the river was great. The guides worked ceaselessly and prepared a truly amazing dinner and a gourmet breakfast. We brought our own tent etc and plenty of beer and wine! The only negative was the constant train noise from both sides of the river. Nothing Hyak can do about that and earplugs helped. The second day we met up with some more groups for the big rapids! We had Ike as our guide who did a great job getting us down it all without mishap. One boat did shed 4 people when it got hit by a big wave right in front of us but the guide got them safely back in the boat in seconds despite the rough water!! All in all a wonderful family weekend! The kids both asked when we can do it again!! Next year I reckon Thanks to all at Hyak!!

      Wicked White Water!
I took a group of my ESL students on a two-day outing with Hyak last weekend and it was an epic adventure! The Hyak team was so helpful in planning the whole event and took care of everything; transportation, food, camping gear! The bountiful breakfast of eggs, bacon and french toast gave us the energy we needed to tackle the Thompson river! The students loved sleeping under the stars and riding the rapids. I will most certainly do it next year! It's a great outing!!!

Excelent adventure Canadian Experience I ever had in my life.
This was a unique/extreme/beautiful/wonderful experience that I had in Canada. Contact with wild nature such as camping outside of the tent, no city noise, pure air, sky full of starts, and much more. Crew costumer service was beyond than expected, providing confident information, guidance and support to go over challenges. Food was GREAT, in abundance and high quality. I definitely will come back as soon as possible. ;)

      Brilliant, exhilarating day!
Me and my three children (12, 13 and 16) went white water rafting on the Thompson Paddle Boat tour on Monday 14 August. What a fantastic day we had! We travelled from Vancouver and the trip took 3 hours so we had an early start but it was worth it. The guides were so relaxed and funny and clearly expert in what they do it just added to the day. All of them were real characters and keen to show us a good time. Big wave Dave , Willie, Lance and the big fella who followed up in the safety boat at short notice. The river trip was such great fun. 23 miles of rapids, calm water, swimming points and wildlife. We saw bald eagles, osprey and otters. The only thing we didn't see was a bear! Lance took over steering our boat from Willie after a change in plans and continued with excellent stories and point of interest and histories of the area, whilst giving us at times a white knuckle ride while making sure our safety was a priority. We all managed to stay in the boat for the day. Apart from when the kids chose to go for a swim. At the end of the day we were all exhausted but had one of the best experiences imaginable from such a trip. Finally, I'm glad we did the paddle boat not the motor boat. It just felt a little more authentic. Thanks guys a truly memorable, exciting and unforgettable day.

      Another great rafting trip!!
Hyak was a great experience!! We have rafted many times and Hyak provided another great trip!! Our guide was Lance and he was a lot of fun! We had a group of people that ranged from 13 to 60! Everyone had a good time and was able to keep up the pace! The smoke in the air did not even spoil our good time. The lunch was good and there was enough food for all. The rapids were fantastic but safety was a priority and we never felt unsafe. We camped overnight so we didn't have to rush in the am. Highly recommend this day rafting trip!!

Hyak power raft on Thompson River
We had paddle rafted before and decided to try the power raft. OMG, we had so much fun. In fact, we have not had that much fun in years and we live in Southern California with world class entertainment surrounding us. However, the adrenaline rush from power rafting was incredible. It is great fun for people of all ages and if you are lucky enough to have the photographer on hand, buy his pictures. The images were incredible. We are already planning our power trip for next summer with Hyak. The company and all the employees are amazing. Definitely a trip we will never forget.

Hyak knows how to have FUN! And, Stay Safe.
We arrived at Hyak in the morning to a cheerful and good humoured group of river guides who clearly explained to us how the day would go and what we needed to do to get ready. The safety talk by the river was clear and comprehensive as well. And funny! Our guide, Lance, was obviously experienced and loved what he was doing. He took us down the river, just the 3 of us and him, and always told us what was coming up for rapids and what to do to minimize the chance of falling out of boat, etc. Lance filled us in on lots of stories and history of the Thompson River, and wildlife. He really GUIDED us well with how to have maximum fun and comfort in every moment of the trip down this beautiful river right until the end. We would DEFINATELY come back for another trip with Hyak Wilderness Adventures! Thank you!

Willie Nelson (SP) was a great rafting guide and exceptional geology teacher. Had fun doing multiple runs of some of the rapids and getting a great run down of the local geology. If you want the front of the boat experience they make sure to swap people around... a very wet experience indeed.

My friends and I got a Groupon for 4 to do this power rafting activity. I was so excited because my last rafting trip in Whistler was memorable and fun.

The only reason I rate this 4/5 is because our experience leading up to the actual rafting was disappointing. First, we were lost and confused because the company moved sites and they had not put the proper signage on the road in Lytton. We came from Surrey (a 3-hr drive to Lytton) and the last thing we needed was to get lost.

Second, check-in was a bit of a hassle because the staff did not know how to operate their Ipad and whatever app they needed to use to sign people in. All the rafting participants ended up being behind schedule because of the late check-in.

Third, on the website, it wasn't clear what gear we were supposed to wear. I was expecting a wetsuit like what I wore from the Whistler rafting trip, but we were given poorly-made rain gear that still ended up soaking through with water. I think that they also need to clear up the need for participants to wear wet shoes because it was uncomfortable wearing socks and runners that ended up soaked throughout the rafting trip.

On the plus side, the guide was a passionate, knowledgeable man who had lots of experience and lots of history to impart re:many landscapes we passed by during our rafting. We were thoroughly entertained.

Overall, the rafting itself was fun. We hit lots of Class 3 rapids that offered a great challenge for us. In order for Hyak to get my 5 stars, they need to address the concerns I listed above.
