White Water Rafting on the Sunwapta River was amazing! The water was freezing, but that did not prevent us from having such a fun time. Brody, our Maligne Adventures raft guide, did an incredible job instructing us on how to steer through the rapids and how to avoid the many obstacles in the water.

Rafts can normally hold 6 people plus a guide. Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, our group of 4 was in our own raft with our guide which was perfect for us.

We chose to not take the bus transfer from the downtown Jasper meeting point to avoid having to wear masks for the 45 minute per direction bus ride. We followed the bus in our own car.

Everyone at Maligne Adventures, from Daniella in the reservations office to the rafting guides were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.

We highly recommend this tour. We would most certainly do it again.

We went July 18/20. The water was very high - almost as high as our guide had ever seen - and this seemed to make it slightly less exciting than some of us expected. But otherwise it was wonderful. The guides really added to the experience - they clearly love what they do, are very knowledgeable, personable and friendly, and we felt very safe in their hands. Instructions were clear, preparation and finishing up ran very smoothly, and even though our prior rafting experience was limited, that was no problem. We even got great recommendations for restaurants and for an extra excursion (driving up Mount Edith Cavell), both of which we did and which did not disappoint (thank you Jay). Thank you also to our guide, Levi, to Wally for the photos, and really to everyone for a great time. God bless.

My husband and I went on the Sunwapta trip with Jay as our guide. It was awesome, I would highly recommend it. The guides are excellent and give you a lot of information about the surrounding area, we ended up extending our vacation to see some of the sites our guide told us were must sees and we were not disappointed. The Rafting was tons of fun and the 90 mins on the water flew by! We always felt very safe and had an exciting afternoon on the water.

This was a very well organised and managed trip. Great joining instructions and an on time departure. All the equipment was provided and we enjoyed an 11.5km trip down the river and rapids. There were 2 staff members per boat who were very experienced so felt very safe. The wetsuits provided kept us all warm as it was 8c even in June. Well worth taking the time to enjoy this unique experience. Recommended

It was so much fun. We were a group of 5 ladies enjoying a rafting/hiking weekend. Our guides were knowledgable and wonderful, trip was organized and well run. Equipment and rafts were topnotch. The river and the scenery are spectacular and we couldn't stop smiling. Make sure everyone gets a front seat turn. No one should go home dry!! :D

Thank you for joining our team at Maligne Adventures for your Sunwapta raft trip. Our goal is for you guys to have fun and laugh lots, we always laugh when we are comfortable. Thank you for taking the time to write a lovely review. If someone went home dry i don't think the guide was hitting the splashiest waves! We hope that you all ended up with lots of splashes! Thank you for commenting on the equipment, we are glad that you noticed how well the equipment was, that plays a big role when you're rafting!

Well organised, knowledgeable and great fun! I was a bit nervous about going alone but was soon one of the crew. The guides were amazing. They clearly know their stuff and love what they do. Was great to have a photographer/security/driver on hand. I wholeheartedly recommend this activity.

Couldn't not do whitewater rafting at some point during our mini Canadian roadtrip but I (mum) was more than a bit anxious having done a fairly scary wwr many years ago. We'd been going to do the level 2 family course but it was full and as we only had a couple of days in Jasper we agreed to go for the Sunwapta - so glad we did! All the guides were friendly and helpful - we had Ryan (with Greg as support) and they were fab, chatting and giving us some local and nature info inbetween dunkings! I got plenty of facefuls of water but felt totally safe at all times. Absolutely loved it - thanks Ryan & Greg.
A couple of practicalities: there is a toilet at the drop-off, changing is done on a tarpaulin as you're told to have swim stuff on. At the end, you just put your clothes back on over your wet swimstuff or sit on a towel (another review had commented on a lack of change facilities but really not an issue, and we have two teenage girls). Guys well-organised with equipment and Wally's pics are a great souvenir of a fab afternoon. Would totally recommend, even if you're a bit nervous.

We were a Group of 7 adult family members and wanted a White Water Rafting Experience while we were vacationing in Jasper. None of the group had done this before and a few were nervous of getting thrown out. We discussed this when booking to chose the most suitable run. The booking staff are very helpful and based on the needs of our group recommend the Sunwapta River.
This was a great activity and we all loved it.
If you are in Jasper and it’s raining and all your hikes and outdoor activities are on hold. Go River Rafting as you are going to get wet anyways...
Some things you need to know: The River Water is cold. It was 4 degrees celsius as it runs from the glacier. Full wet suits are provided including boots and mitts. You have to change into the wetsuits outside. Wear your swimsuit to the checkin. Be prepared to carry the raft from the bus to the river at the start and from the river up to the bus at the end. If you are not physically able, ask the booking staff which run is best for you. This one requires you to paddle and drop onto the raft floor when hitting large rapids. So it’s does require some physical strength to participate.
Overall I rate this is a 5 Star Activity and Experience.
From start to finish the booking staff, bus driver and raft captains were all professional and competent.
