About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- danj6530 contributionsGreat service and pricesRented kayaks. Boats were as expected and price the best I could find in the area. The service and flexibility were top notchWritten September 17, 2024
- PrairieSky1230 contributionsKayaking in the MountainsOn the hunt for a kayak while I was on vacation, I contacted Bow Valley SUP. Both Michelle and Maggie were wonderful! They were very friendly, professional and helpful. I decided to reserve a kayak that day (Monday) for the upcoming Friday. I read and signed the waiver form and emailed it back to them. When I checked the weather on Thursday morning, they were forecasting 60 km winds for the next day. I would consider myself a novice kayaker who has kayaked in windy conditions, however 60 KM winds were a little bit strong for my current skill level. It was also my first time in an inflatable kayak (which I learned is harder to guide and manoeuvre than a hard kayak), and my 3-year-old Yorkie was tagging along. I did not feel like it would be safe for either of us to go out on the water in these conditions. I couldn't remember if the cancellation policy was 24 or 48 hours, so I called to ask one of the wonderful staff members. When a man picked up, I introduced myself. He rudely asked "Who's calling?!?". Taken aback by the completely different reception that I had previously gotten, I wondered if I had dialed the wrong number. I introduced myself again and explained that I had reserved a kayak for the next day. I stated that I was concerned for my safety, as they were calling for 60 km winds, which were above my current skill level. I then asked if their cancellation policy was 24 or 48 hours. This was met with great frustration: I was scolded, ("48 hours! That's why you need to read your policy!" I had read it, I just couldn't remember), I was lectured on "Mountain Weather" and, finally, an attempted guilt trip for possibly needing to cancel was thrown in. I was so shocked at the stark contrast to the professional and kind reception that I had gotten from other staff members, that I was rendered speechless; This is your response when a customer calls regarding their safety on the water? Again, I tried to explain that I was looking to potentially cancel was for SAFETY reasons, but he would not listen. Before hanging up, he asked "Ok?! Ok?!". I said"No. Not Ok". I told him how wonderful the other employees had been and that he was being extremely rude. Again, I reiterated that my concerns were SAFETY related. His response was not apologetic, but rather that I could go kayaking that day (Thursday) instead. I told him that my itinerary was full for that day, but he kept insisting. When I reiterated that my itinerary was full, he started pushing me to go that night. ("You could go tonight! You could go tonight!".) Beyond frustrated at not being heard, I said I'd just wait and keep my fingers crossed for calmer winds. After we hung up, I went on the website and found out that I had just been speaking with one of the co-owners. When Mr. Co-owner texted me that he had left a note stating my concerns for Michelle, who would be in the next day, I thanked him. I then addressed how he had conveyed his messages: I had no issue with WHAT he was saying, but HOW he was saying it: If the cancellation policy is 48 hrs, come downpour or hurricane winds, so be it! If the weather changes every 10 minutes and the winds might be calmer than forecasted, great! There is a much kinder, more respectful and professional way of saying that. Again, his answer was unapologetic. The next day it was windy, but not 60 km, so I felt comfortable going out on the water. Michelle was kind and helpful; she gave me a quick tutorial on how to inflate and deflate the kayak, showed me a map of the reservoir, and helped load everything in my vehicle. When I returned, Sara and another gentleman happily unloaded everything. I would rate my dealings with Mr. Co-owner zero stars; proper and professional customer service is seriously lacking. The rest of the staff were exceptional, each providing 5-star service.Written August 16, 2024
- smlalji0 contributionsGreat Business to Work With and Highly Recommend! We rented the inflatable single kayaks and would do it again! We were worried about the weather and colder conditions in early June but Ryan was great to work with. He was very responsive to our questions via eMail prior to our arrival and the morning we picked up our Kayaks he was even more supportive. He showed us what to do and how to set them up. The day of our reservation it was very windy which made us nervous but Ryan provided great recommendations of where to Kayak and provided us with all the details we needed. We picked up the kayaks around 10am, spent about 4 hours on the water and returned them just after 3pm. It was one of our favorite things to do! We highly recommend this place of business and the kayaks!Written June 9, 2024
- R3068XKrossd0 contributionsYou should paddleboard in CanmoreMaggie made me realize how technical while enjoyable paddleboarding can be. She also gave great tips on the surrounding areas and made sure we had great pics (including my new Lock Screen)! My wife was rather sick, and Maggie already had hot tea with honey waiting on us when we got back to shore! The price is right, and the experience is wonderful.Written May 11, 2024

They had the boards ready for us, showed us how to get them on our cars to travel with them, recommended a place for us to paddleboard at, and were quick to come out and help when we were dropping the boards back off. Would definitely recommend!Written August 13, 2023

We had a wonderful time learning something new. We had never been SUP before and had no idea what we were doing. We learned so much in our 1 hour time on the water. We will definitely be back to rent equipment and even take more tours/lessons in the future as we continue to learn more. Our guide was so sweet and hilarious. She met us where we were with our skill levels and did a great job challenging us and encouraging us. It is a great adventure!
The location is great...not too crowded. Close to the Nordic center so you can use that building for washrooms/changing/snacks etc. We took a picnic lunch out then got in the water. Show up a bit early to sign waivers and get all set up so you can get the most out of your tour time.

Can't recommend this company enough - they've been doing this sport for years and they're locals so they couldn't be better at what they do. Beautiful spot with top of the line rental boards. A must-do if you're in the area!

Highly recommend renting from these guys! We had such an amazing experience - very convenient to pick up and go right at the reservoir, but on top of that, they were SO accommodating!
They allowed to switch our rental time very last minute, then also offered to meet us later than usual pick up time for our sunset SUP. They were AMAZING to deal with - easygoing, friendly, highly accommodating, extremely helpful!
Definitely going to rent from them again. Couldn’t sing their praises enough!
I work in sales and customer service and this is definitely the best service I’ve received in any business.

The intro to SUP was amazing! Ryan was a fantastic instructor and we were up standing on our boards in no time! So much fun! I would recommend this to anyone (and I’d also recommend the wet suit rental if you think you’ll be in the water at any point)

Thank you so much! You guys were sooo patient and took the time to go through the rules and how to set up the board and pack it up. You guys are kind and I’d recommend anyone and come to you guys. Super excited to rent from you guys again and practice more on my paddle boarding.
We rented 3 boards for a full day and the staff allowed us to bring it back the next day at 12 in the afternoon which was very courteous. We didn't do the tour we just rented and went alone but we still loved the experience!

Amazing experience learning to SUP at Johnstone lake in Banff. We did the evening sunset tour, the lake is beautiful and warm. Very quiet with only a few people there in the evening. Maggie was a great teacher and very friendly company. Highly recommend this tour for your first SUP experience.

Love these folks! We are locals, but not owning SUPs yet ourselves, have chosen to rent from Bow Valley SUP on a number of occasions. Until that day we invest in our own set of boards, we will continue to go to them for all of our paddling needs. They are a fantastic group of people, super generous with their time, and a local business that is really important to have around and keep supporting...

The staff on site we amazing to talk to and provide information and options to me and my family. They made recommendations and suggestions based on experience and other customer feedback. The equipment was sized accordingly and look like it was right out of the packaging. Can’t saw enough about the staff on site to the ease of booking the rentals and filling out the wavier. Can’t wait to head back and enjoy the Canadian Rockies from a different perspective. Thanks bowvalleysup.

We rented a tandem board and an sup and had a great time trading off between the 3 of us. All of our first time. The operators were very friendly and gave us a lot of great pointers before we headed out. Beautiful scenery on rundle bay and a super way to stay active during Covid. Very memorable experience.
