- Julie W0 contributionsFabulous mountain town and a great place to visit, with loads to do across a 3-night stay.Fabulous place to visit. 3-night stay, which felt long enough to do everything we wanted to. Banff Gondola. Hiked along Bow River and hiked up Tunnel Mountain. Hiked around Vermillion Lakes and Rafted the Bow River.Written September 25, 2024
- L2630GVjocelyns0 contributionsBest way to experience the sights around Banff. We booked the Hop On Banff bus so that we could see all the best tourist places around Banff without driving. I highly recommend this as it took you to Johnsons Canyon, Lake Louise and Lake Louise Gondola and Moraine Lake. From what we saw, driving there is a nightmare, the traffic is horrific so taking the bus just makes sense. Plus the drivers and the guides are all really nice, they take the time to talk to you and personalize your day making sure you know when and where to catch the bus and what to see. They also talk to you about the locations, the wildlife and the history of the area. We were able to plan our day and make it fit in with what interested us and what we wanted to do, as there was ample time at each stop. Best decision ever to book with them.Written August 24, 2024
- geraldinep3900 contributionsWelcome Aboard! HOPONBANFFSo pleased we booked this tour. We had a fantastic day and fitted so much in thanks to Tyler and Dominique assisting with our own adventure style tour. We managed to visit Johnston Canyon, Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. At each destination we had plenty of time to explore and take photos before boarding the bus and going on to our next scenic stop. Great value for money and highly recommend.Written September 25, 2023
- SightseerPDX0 contributionsGreat tour in Canada's National Park!Tyler was our guide (and owner) for most the stops of this creative tour company. He helped us figure out which route was the best for us to do. We would highly recommend this tour. Great way to see Lake Louise, Moraine Lake and Johnston Canyon. It would have been impossible to find parking if we had driven ourselves. Tyler is very personable and the other tour guide is very humorous.Written September 13, 2022
- Gayle P0 contributionsGreat day!Our guides visited with each group on the bus so we could plan our day. They marked our schedule on the itinerary so we would know when to get back on the bus, and everything worked out perfectly. We were able to visit the most popular places and not worry about parking. Could have never done it in a vehicle, too much traffic and no parking. Saw black bears and a grizzly bear with 2 cubs. - Rams400 contributionsFull day out around BanffWe spent a full day travelling around the canyons and lakes of Banff. So glad we did, as taking the car would have been a nightmare due to busy/impossible parking at Lake Louise and Moraine. - Experience2017930 contributionsTyler made it rightTyler is awesome in responding to my concerns. I missed the bus at the train station based on wrong information. Although I missed it, Tyler rectified the situation and we spoke. He is professional, cordial, courteous and went beyond what I expected in rectifying the situation. Even though I was misinformed as to where the bus picks up at the train station, he promptly solved the issue and went back to the source of misinformation to make sure his customers are not misinformed. I would try the service again next year. Thanks, TylerWritten August 6, 2019
- 12lovestotravel120 contributionsPerfect! This was the best tour we booked hands down. So easy, comfortable and Tyler made sure we had our itinerary planned and helped us decide what was best for our family with 2 younger children. A relaxed, and casual, but fun way to see the sights. Everything about this was fantastic. From the early morning pickup in front of the train station in Banff, hopping on the big yellow school bus and having lots of individualized attention from the drivers and the guides, we enjoyed every minute. When researching how to visit Lake Louise and Moraine Lake, it was clear that there was no way we could drive ourselves to either of these two destinations. We came upon Hop On Banff and figured this was the best way to see all of the major places people want to visit nearby to Banff. We signed up for the full experience, early morning pickup to last bus back to town. We started in Johnston Canyon, and had a great hike up to the falls. We then went to Lake Louise where we picnicked lakeside. Our bus picked us up right in front of the Fairmont so it was an easy on, easy off at this stop. Next we went to Moraine Lake, which was spectacular. It was chilly so we went back to the bus a little early and had a great chat with our driver and learned a lot about the area. Our last stop was the gondola/chairlift at Lake Louise ski area where there is a panoramic view of the mountains and beautiful blue Lake Louise in the distance like a jewel in the crown. We traveled along the Bow River Parkway both ways and looked for wildlife as we traveled.
I highly recommend these folks - they keep it simple and share a lot of information along the way. At the end of the day, you felt like you had some new friends in Banff.

This was an awesome way to experience the major sights and sounds of Banff, especially if you have limited time. We only had 2 days and wanted to make the most of our time. The Banff Hop On Hop Off crew did an incredible job. There are many options to see the places that are of most interest to you. At the start of the day they check with each party and customize their schedule to know what time to catch the bus at each of your preferred destinations. We went to Johnston Canyon, Lake Louise, Moraine Lake, and ended with the Lake Louise gondola. They were all stunning and majestic. The HOHO crew were awesome! Friendly, helpful, and provided great insights that enhanced our experience.
They were fully booked on the date we needed but they encouraged me to check back as cancellations occur and that’s exactly what happened.
The cost was more than reasonable.
We had a group of 5 - 3 adults, our 18 year old son and 4 year old daughter. No cost for our 4 year old but we needed to have a ticket to secure the space. It was a full day for our little one (picked up at the Banff train station at 7:50 and returned at 6 pm) but she handled it well. We did the first loop hike at Johnston Canyon which was well within her capability. The HOHO crew had an activity book for littles which we filled out throughout the day and she got a keepsake when it was finished.
I’ve recommended HOHO to family and friends already and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone. Do it, you won’t regret it.

We chose Hop On Banff for our day tour after researching other options, including the Parks Canada shuttles. They offered the best value and most flexibility in our schedule and gave us ample time at Johnston Canyon to reach the upper falls, at Lake Louise to make it to the Lake Agnes Tea House (a bit hectic but doable) and to marvel at Moraine Lake atop the Rockpile. There was an additional stop available to take the Lake Louise Gondola, but we opted for an earlier return in order to explore downtown Banff and get dinner. Free parking at the Banff train station was easy and convenient. Our drivers and guides were all first class and the retro feel of the school bus was fine (tip - avoid sitting over the rear wheels in back, as it gets quite bumpy).

Hop On Banff was an amazing opportunity to see Banff National Park's most popular attractions. Our day started on the earliest pick up time. Our guide Tyler was well informed on the history of Banff and filled us in on interesting details during the commute to our destinations. He even took the time to curate experiences for our tour. Some patreons on the bus wanted to ride the gondola so he highlighted their program with instruction on how to get there.
Our first major stop was at lake moraine. The tour gave its patreons enough time to hike, take photos and canoe in the lake. The canoe rentals were not included but I highly recommend that service with this tour ($130). It was an unforgettable experience.
We then stopped at Lake louise for sight seeing and light hiking. We also had time to explore the historic Fairmont hotel.
Our last stop was the gondola ride. Again, another amazing experience and unforgettable view.
I highly recommend this tour service for any visitors to banff as it gives you time and freedom to explore the locations you want to see. Staff is informed and very friendly.

Sounds like you took full advantage of everything this area has to offer while on tour with us.
To be able to Canoe and sightsee at Moraine Lake, have time for a short hike at Lake Louise, ride the gondola to the top for views over where you had spent your morning AND still experience Johnston Canyon is a full-day experience unlike any other.
It is definitely advantageous to start on the first bus out for sure.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a detailed review for other travellers also.

We had several spots we wanted to visit in one day so chose this method and it worked out great. Dominique and Louis listened to our picks and then planned the itinerary for us. Gave helpful hints and views. Lots of information on the history of the area. Prompt arrival of the buses and the designated sites. We were able to hike Johnston Canyon, (highly recommend) take the Lake Louise Gondola and have lunch and see Lake Louise in one day. There are plenty of options if you want to hike longer in one area or omit places all together No parking problems!

This tour company goes above and beyond to give every guest the best experience possible. We were on a bus with Tyler in the early morning and then joined Dominique's bus later in the day. They both took time to greet every guest on the bus and ensure that all questions were answered. The buses were on time and prompt with pickup and drop offs.
My wife left her hiking poles behind at Lake Louise and Dominique made phone calls and offered to touch base with us later to see if they could be found and returned.
Thank you Tyler, Dominique and the drivers for a wonderful day.

Fantastic day on a yellow American school bus. We booked because we didn’t want the hassle of trying to park at all the different beauty spots and it was totally the right thing to do. The guides were so helpful even giving us advice on other parts of hour trip. The timings of the trip worked perfectly, you had just the right amount of time in each location. Totally recommend for anyone wanting to see Johnston canyon, lake Louise and moraine lake

Travelling with Hop-On/Hop-Off through Moraine Lake, Johnston Canyon, Lake Louise and area, was an amazing experience. Staff was entertaining, and excellent in their descriptions and explanations of each place we visited. Time to explore at each stop was adequate. Best way to see the highlights.
The shuttle spots to Lake Louise and Morraine Lake booked up 4 months in advance, so needless to say, we didn't get a spot. And I wasn't about to leave it to chance and hope that I can nab one of the last minute spots (those open at 8am, 48 hours in advance) and get booked in 30 - 60 minutes.
Book this tour, you will see Lake Louise, Morraine Lake and Johnston Canyon. There's a couple different ways you can plan your day, but don't feel the need to get overwhelmed beforehand. Tyler and Dominque will sit with each group at the beginning of the bus ride to help you plan it out depending on what you want to see and do. They will also stop at various scenic stops during the tour and will stop for wildlife (we saw elks and even a black bear). If you want to have extended time at Lake Louise, skip the gondola. You can always come back to this location on your own, there's tons of parking as it is the same place as the shuttle park'n'ride. Maximize your time at the sites where there is very limited parking.
I would recommend doing this tour on your first full day in Banff. If you want to spend more time at Lake Louise doing the hikes or Johnston Canyon to visit the upper falls (we only had time to make it to the lower falls), then you can plan for it on a later day.
Park at the Banff train station where the bus picks up. Plenty of free parking.

Oh my gosh, don't know where to begin! As first timers to Banff and in our 60's, my husband and I weren't sure how to go about seeing everything everyone insisted we needed to do and see. This is truly the tour for You! Whether you're a novice outdoorsman or avid hiker, they individualize the day according to your wants and preferences! We took the Gondola ride, spent lunchtime enjoying Lake Louise, climbed up the Pile of Rocks to view Lake Moraine and opted out of the falls at Johnston Canyon in the afternoon only because of the rain and thunderstorms that rolled in. In addition, our guide, Tyler made a couple brief stops along the way for us to take some incredible pictures and offered a wealth of information as we traveled from stop to stop. Tyler did an incredible job and as I said, he individualized our trip specific to what we wanted to do n see! You can literally board the bus in the morning absolutely clueless and depart at the end of the day full of knowledge. I can't say enough about our driver, Jeff, as well! Mike and I can't recommend this tour highly enough! Thank you, Tyler and Jeff!

I am glad that you appreciated the extra stops as well. We pride ourselves on flexibility and the guides do a great job of taking advantage of any extra time they have in the day to just stop and take in the sights.
Jeff has read this review also and we all really appreciate the effort you took to write it for others to see.

Can I start this trip from Samson mall, not from banff??
Written October 5, 2022
As Q1042BHamyn above stated, there are only 2 places; the Moose Hotel on Banff Ave. (within walking distance of many hotels depending where you stay) or the Railway Station near downtown Banff (free parking), where you can catch the Hop On Banff bus (as of June 2022) Be aware of the time you have to catch the last Samson Mall bus in order to get back into Banff. Check the Hop On Banff website for details as it runs differently than most Hop On Hop Off buses.

Hi, I and my friend plan to visit Banff on Jun 18th, 2022 and we choose the hop on hop off bus. I wonder if the weather at that time will be good enough to hike or not. And is there any of the staffs help us to plan our trip at Banff? Last question, where do they usually pick us up? I did rent an airbnb and I dont know if they will pick me up at my airbnb or I have to go to downtown and wait for their busses. Looking for someone to help me answer these questions! Thanks a lot!!!

Moose Hotel and train station. Neither close to Rimrock. If you are not driving, then use the ROAM bus (hotel should give you a free pass good for your stay) which has a stop at your hotel and very near either train station or Moose. If you are looking to go to the Banff gondola by bus, the Roam bus would be the way to go and it's free with the pass. The Hop on Hop off bus takes you to some distant places.

They are very flexible and you can start later if you want. To do it all justice it is well worth starting early, especially if you want to do the canyon as that gets very busy later on.
